Cavern engagement - Round 10

:ooc: i was under the impression as well that the cavern was big enough for the ship. Could we look at the aegis as having done a straffing run and Kara brining the skiff up to either dock with the ship or driving it into the loading bay ala Nightrider? Aft shield drops shields all full skiff flies in.
THE GAME MUST GO ON!

:ooc: Let's just keep the play going; I want to find out if Farok "[becomes] more powerful than [we] can possibly imagine" or not!  ;D As to shields, I like the idea of allowing sections of shields to be lowered (Fore, Aft, Starboard, Portside). Also make the shields unidirectional. So they only prevent attacks against the ship. Physical objects going out are not affected. No need to go back and change the narrative, we can bolster the deflector shields on the section likely to take the missile and lower the section (aft?) around the ramp.

:ooc: Okay, after this discussion: http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75862/29409907/Shields...

Here is the decision that I will rule for our game:

Shields are both a physical and energy barrier - they will stop both physical and energy based attacks against them.

A ship's fire control system, which operates much faster than an organic being can process information and react, is able to put the shields in a standby mode and then reactivate them when a missile launches, clears its rails, and passes out of close proximity to the launching vessel. This idea is much like a modern day naval war vessel (i.e. an Aegis cruiser) that can move the radar fire control system from standby to active in less than seconds.

A pilot/co-pilot/engineer controlled action - not the ship's fire controls - can lower the shields on a facing to allow for entry or exit of a physical object or person. The affect is to reduce shields to 1/2 their rating, rounding down while the shield facing is down.

Any questions, ask...

As for Tom's questions about flying the skiff right into the Aegis... well below is attached a scale picture of the Bantha II skiff in comparison to the Falcon. The Falcon and the Aegis are the same size in Saga terms, so that isn't going to happen. Lastly, Tom suggested you guys jump on the ship from above... although possible, I am just going to finish this round out with what we have going on.

The Aegis is too large to land on the skiff pad and it cannot fit into the cavern, so you guys are going to need to think of something. Kaida is als taking the PC's out of LOS to the combat by flying up to the Aegis, as the ship is hovering well above the cave entrance.

Lastly, Matt has been absent for a number of days... not sure what he has going on, but based on his current PC's original mission, I am withdrawing the assumption that BIT climbed aboard the skiff. BIT was there to steal data for an employer, so he will stay behind to finish his mission. Matt - if you come back and don't want this to be what BIT will do, just let me know and we can correct my narrations below.

Okay...  updated Farok's hit points for the Second Wind and here we go...

Kara saw that the skiff was gaining altitude to meet them and she assumed it was to climb on board. She nodded to Ardana who hit the button that started the landing ramp to descend. Kara took a quick look at her threat board and it was bright red, but still she commanded the Aegis to lower its forward ventral shield, thus allowing their companions the ability to enter. The mech mentally willed her friends to hurry, but they were only able to go so fast and Kara saw that a new missile was now inbound.

BIT watched as the skiff began to climb and then he took aim one more time at the shadow that had threatened them all. He pulled his trigger.

Inside the cavern, Farok's lightsaber slammed down on the wounded dark jedi and brought him to his knees in a shower of sparks. Shade was still alive, his lightsaber coming between Farok's own and glowing angrily. But then blaster fire screamed in from both behind and above. BIT and Fett fired on the Shade at almost the same time and the weakened warrior rolled out from under Farok's lightsaber and intercepted BIT's blast. Unfortunately, he was out of luck and Fett's shot struck him in the back.

Farok watched as Shade maneuvered, deflected and then... died. The desert warrior was almost impressed by the darksider's skill, and then the cloaked figure was motionless on the cavern floor. A sudden bright flare caught his eye and he quickly looked outside the cave to see a missile streak in towards the Aegis.

:ooc: Damage results on the Aegis...

The Aegis is hit for 72 damage and it is applied as follows:

Aegis Shield rating: 20 (due to our rules above for dropping an area) - damage reduced by 20 to 52, but shield effectiveness reduced by 5 points to 35/45

Aegis damage reduction - the remaining 52 points of damage are reduced by the ships damage reduction of 15 to 37

The Aegis loses 37 hit points for a total of 53/150
