Tantau prison

Sam moved to the last standing mutant's right to look down the passage that led to the chamber in which the battle was raging. The action caused an instant reaction by the mutant who swung his metal bar at the droid. The crude weapon went high over Sam, and the droid levelled his blaster and fired in response. At close ranged, the blaster bolt hit the creature and seared through its torso exposing a hole the size of a dinner plate. The mutant staggered and then toppled backward to lay over two of its other dead companions.

With its death, the chamber was suddenly calm - only the ringing in their ears and the sound of water splashing was present.

From Kara's fusion lantern, the room now danced with light and shadows. The floor was littered with the dead remains and gore of the creatures that the company had just slain. But also it was littered with the the items the mutants had kept, feces, and the offal of their prey that they did not consume. Water was also present in abundance.

Sam observed the room and saw that there was a great crack that had opened in the tunnel's floor. He deduced it had been some form of geological fault that must have split via a quake or tremor. The net effect was to cause the floor and ceiling to crack open and reveal the foundation of Tantau prison and its environmental system. The huge machines above whined loudly - still functioning properly - but the cooling condensors were exposed and the condensation rained down and pattered in the culvert in the floor. Over time, the condensation had filled the crack and formed a pool, which then traced its way down and out of the maintenance tunnel. Sam wondered how deep the crack was.

Cautiously the team moved into the next chamber and again saw pooling water along its periphery. There were large cabinets of sorts that were tossed on their sides and beaten open. The contents of which were long destroyed by the moisture or the beasts that resided here. Sam noticed the remains of a droid laying close to one of the broken cabinets. Off of this chamber was an access corridor that had collapsed. Where it led, none could know. The only other way to go was up, as metal ladder rungs were driven into the far wall rising into a tube. The circumfrence of the manhole was large enough to accomodate a human-sized creature (or droid), but would have hindered the larger mutants that now lay dead.

Sam took a good look at the droid, storing its image and comparing it against his database of known types as he continued to search. It looked like the only way to go was up and Sam volunteered to poke his head through first. As deftly as he could, he tried to quietly climb the ladder, but metal on metal had a distinctive ring. He went only so far as to poke his head through the opening and look around before climbing up all the way if the coast was clear.

:ooc: I want you guys to know about sound issues - first, even though you were firing blasters in this tunnel, you guys are deep down from the prison itself in solid rock. Also, the prison machinery for its environment and power reactor are all louder than hell, and somewhat exposed, so to even talk and be heard can be a challenge.

This said, the clink of Sam's feet on the metal ladder rungs will be slight - besides, I am sure he has some kind of rubber paddings to give traction.

Sam started up the ladder, his worries of noise quickly abated when compared to the sound of machinery all around. He climbed quickly and disappeared into the manhole in the ceiling of the access tunnel, but there was still another twenty-five feet to climb up the tube cut in the rock. Small flourescents had been installed along the way, lighting the ladder, but only a few still worked, others either flickered or were dark.

At last, Sam came to the top and a large, metal manhole cover.

:ooc: Is the whole team going to follow Sam up, or are you guys going to wait for some response from Sam? Also, does Sam want to push up on the manhole cover to open it? I attached a profile pic of chamber to show what you guys are dealing with.

Sam - the droid remains are of a protocol droid that has been modded with a maintenance droid body - giving it a more rugged and agile shell but the independent, non-proprietary processing.

Logar watched the droids feet disappear up the shaft. He eyed the rest of the group. " Its gotta smell better up there." He shot them his winningest smile, slung his rifle over his back, and followed sam up the ladder.

Telcontar

"The ladder leads into the maintenance area, we saw that on the schematics. We dont want to rush the prison just yet."

Britton looked around, "any chance we can get this other droid powered up?"

Brim gave Logar'Dan a queer look. "Was this one sane?" he wondered to himself. The Rodian shook his head, deactivated the lightsaber in his hand and holstered it on his belt. He looked at Britton, "What time do you think it wise to enter the prison, Britton? And as for the droid... I do not think we can do anything with it save see if it contains spare functional parts."

Brim hissed up the ladder, "Come back down here! We are not going to make our attack until the wee hours of the morning." He then turned to the others, "Might as well get some rest while we wait."

:ooc: You guys can RP as you want here, but knowing the basic plan, give me a heads up when you are done with any chatter and I will 'move' game time on.

Hopefully this room is a little better smelling if not louder than the other room.

"Sam see if you can get any sensor readings from the other side of the manhole cover."

Once the party was reasembled, "well we have some time, we can move back down the tunnel where it is quieter and try and get some rest, the smell will be better anyway. Anyone think we can get the memory unit out of this droid? if we cant power it up, maybe we can tap into its memories, might have some useful information."

Kaida nodded with Britton's assessment, and cast a worried look at Sam ascending the shaft. "Lets wait down here until it's time to infiltrate."

She turned to look over the group, assessing any injuries among them.

:ooc: She'll do first aid on any wounded (at least those that took more than 15 hits). Not sure who they all are, so I'll let you roll for me GM. I have 3 med packs on me and each person should be carrying at least one (that's what I handed out from the ship's store anyway)

Sam reached the cover and gave it a gentle push to see if it would move. Assuming it does, he uses his (durasteel) head to push the cover up carefully on one side until he can peek around. If nothing of threat is seen, he will lift the cover up and slide it over to quickly climb out of the access. Of course, if he spots a threat he will try to remain unnoticed while he observes.

Callowmoryne

Logar had only climbed a few steps before Britton spoke up about resting. He dropped back to the flooor. " Good idea, stick to the plan, attack when their weakest. I have a few spare medpacs for the wounded. Also we should post a guard at the tunnel entrance in case some of these beasties were out and about. Id like to volunteer." With that he moved off towards the access tunnels entrance near the river.

Telcontar

Britton left Sam to check out the entry point and Logar to head back to the mouth of the tunnel while the rest of the party prepared to move. he scavanged around the area looking for any information and then checked for indicators on the wall as to where the collapsed portion of the tunnel may go.

Once done he tried to move the party into the tunnel where the air was cleaner, established a watch and then waited and rested for the time of the attack.

:ooc: Brim recovers 11 hit points  :csu:

My next post is going to move time on to the early morning, unless Sam or another character decides to become more adventurous.

Sam sees an empty room - a maintenance shack - with multiple control and diagnostic stations for the entire prison. Crates were stacked about of what might be spare parts, but the droid could see most had been opened at one point, and most likely used. The manhole from which he had exited was on the south wall and it offered little cover for them to move in and out of the room if someone was there. But for now, the chamber was empty and quiet.

Logar found his way back to the entrance to the maintenance tunnel. The air was fresh, but warmer. Night time was falling on the small planetoid.

The rest of the team had also moved out of the mutants lair, but not before Britton and Brim had searched the chambers. The crates and file cabinets were full of old Republic files on prisoners that surely were long gone from the detention center above. The soldier scraped old dirty mildew from a metal sign that hung on the wall near the collapsed corridor and read it - CONTROL ROOM ACCESS - AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY.

A quick look was enough for Sam. His companions needed time to heal and if they hadn't been discovered yet, he wouldn't risk bringing Imperials down on them as they recovered. He stayed to the room for a bit and searched around. He rummaged through the crates and existing consoles to see if he could scab together some passive detection in the room that would give them a head's up if anyone entered while he went down below.

:ooc: Don't know if it's possible, but Sam tries to pull together a sensor from what parts he can find before going back down with the group.
