"Servant of a false and foolsome king your blood shall be cast upon the scales of his judgement. CARROCK! CARROCK!"

The Longspear bent to the task. In his experience a quick and short fight was always the best alternative.

Ooc: so close. That's 9 endurance so this dude's got 1 left.

Another glancing blow from the spear of Hathcyn. However, the crossguard of his great mounted spear made sufficient contact. Despite the armor the swordman wore he felt the crush of ribs beneath. The Carrock had been avenged with another blow upon the men of the false king.

Luindîs' laugh at Gwaithlim's wide shot rings out across the clearing as she nocks another arrow.  "See how a daughter of Mirkwood shoots!" she calls as she draws and aims.

With a dreadful meat-sound, Luindîs' arrow punches through the young man's leather sark and lodges deep in his stomach.  His eyes widen in pain and fear but only a tiny moan escapes his lips as he topples backward, his bow dropping from limp hands.  An anguished scream arises from the running woman, who redoubles her efforts and draws ahead of the man next to her, who stumbles to a halt ever so briefly, his face sick with horror.

Hurt, and knowing that his last ally has fallen, the red-cloaked man casts aside his shield and takes to his heels as soon as he can bring himself beyond the reach of Hathcyn's spear.

:ooc: Tom, the result of the guard's attempt to flow is up to you - Hathcyn is Swift, so if he wants to catch the guy he will.  Otherwise, he'll escape into Mirkwood.

:ooc: This may mean a shadow point, but I think it bears out in terms of story. Think their may be some shades of the Mel Gibson Patriot Ambush scene.

Hathcyn will pursue, I'll have a post up about.

The cloaked figure seeing his doom near at hand attempted to flee and the Longspear was fast on his heels.

"Not so fast servant of the false king!"

A wrath was on the Beorning and he was in a fey and dangerous mood.

"Not with impunity shall you flee to strike my folk again or trouble this land. For the Folk of Beorn, for your insult to the fair Duskshadow, and not least of all for your seizure of Ætheldreám and violation of the status of Herald. The judgement of Hathcyn of the Greenstone Land. Death."

Without hesitation and with quick bounds the fox with the hare in his reach would not loosen his grip on the query. The Longspear stabbed.

With a sickening crack, Hathcyn's spear brasts apart mail and bone to sink to the crossguard into the man's breast, the force of the blow knocking the dying man to the ground where the Longspear, teeth bared and knuckles white on the spear-haft, watches him gasp his last few breaths.  Behind him, the screaming woman rushes to the side of the young bowman, cradling his head in her hands and crying again and again "Avargis!  My boy!  My child!".

The man, as clearly the youth's father as the woman is his mother, fixes Gwaithlim with a flint-hard look.  "No great warrior am I, to stand against the likes of you.  Take your people and go, and know that you have wrought a great evil this day!"

Within the house, heedless of the man's words, Esgalwen's captor takes a fistful of her hair and wrenches back her head, exposing her throat to a knife held in trembling hands.

:ooc: That is indeed a Misdeed, though I'm going to consider it 'unprovoked aggression' rather than 'murder', so Hathcyn only gains four points of Shadow (:csu:) and isn't Miserable.  The accumulated Shadow gain has, however, triggered another Revelation episode, the effect of which might take a while to become apparent.

Hathcyn now turned his attention to the others.

"Had he not have aided pillagers and thieves his fate would have been different."

The longspear was drawn from the body of the warrior no longer pinning him to the ground.

"You have a choice here. Release the woman and tell the council on whose orders you abducted her. Or something more foolish. My choice will then be to varnish this dirt floor with your blood or drag you to the river and  ask Duskshadow to keep you alive in the muddy cold bottom while the black trout feast on your body slowly eating you until you settle into a watery grave and your watery screams heard by no one."
