Thank you, Doug.  Everyone here had had a taste of my GMing style, so hopefully there won't be any nasty surprises for anyone.  I have enjoyed this game for many years now, and I don't want to see it fade away.

As ever, feel free to drop me a line, privately or otherwise, to voice any concerns you may have or share any ideas that you're excited about.  I am a steward of the game, not it's king.

No problems here.  Curious to see where this story leads

I suspect that the last round took Laeral out of the fight.  Fortuitously, I'm going to be away from any internet access for the next few days.  Aly, would you like to take over Arbogast?

So, apropos of nothing, Night's Black Agents - being a spy game - has to address the fact that a standard method of coming into information in spy stories is having the main character get captured and either have the villain monologue at them or have them stumble across some interesting files as they inevitably escape.  Accordingly, it has a rule: if you get captured, you will have a chance to escape, and you will find some important information as you do so.

Heroic fantasy stories are less concerned about acquiring information, but characters in stories as far back as the Arthurian romances have equal propensity to get themselves captured and held in durance vile.  So my policy is going to be this: if the Fellowship is captured, it will have a chance to escape, and it will gain a benefit of some sort (perhaps information, perhaps some new shiny thing) as it does so.

Usually a personal price/sacrifice is exacted for the acquisition of said info and/or escape though. ;D

So, with Doug likely to create a new character soon, and Hathcyn apparently wishing to fight to the death, it seems like a good time to do some general character spitballing.  Apart from new characters, it would be good to have Laeral become progressively more integrated with the setting, and Aly could probably use some suggestions about that.  Matt, you might also give some thought to whether Grimbeorn will continue with his adventuring career past the next adventure or two.  If so, is there a particular goal you have in mind for him?  Ending the threat of the Viglundings comes to mind, but you may have other ideas.

This is also a good opportunity to let me know of anything in general that you'd like to see more or less of in the game.  I'm not proposing to change the overall tone - it isn't about to turn into Downton Abbey: House of Beorn - and I'm keen to keep the overall focus on the region immediately around Mirkwood, because that's what we all* signed on for.  But if you have an idea for a scene in which your character says or does something particularly cool, let me know and I can work to set it up.

* Except Aly, who basically signed on for 'fantasy adventure RPG-ing' without a whole lot of coherent explanation on my part.

Im kind of forcing Grimbeorn to take an active command role over Hathcyn at this point. He really doesnt like orcs and he failed his roll pretty badly.

Yes, though he's not having a full-blown bout of madness, so he can come 'round any time.

Keeping the Vigs in line, managing the threats from Gundabad, the High Pass, and Mirkwood.  Those are his concerns, not a small task at all.

So that there isn't complete radio silence: I am waiting on responses from Doug and Aly.  If I still don't have either in the next day or so, I'll bump the story on a bit.  They can join in when it suits them.

Sorry guys things have been rough on my end for a bit. I havent been checking the forum as frequently as I should.

I'd like to see where the Vig story goes too. I think after the horror of the longhouse Hathcyn is unable to look at Uppala the same. His psyche was damaged by that vision.

He also has taken an amorous liking to Vigs daughter. He has been working on saving money and being involved so that he can raise his standing. One idea is that he marry her, and if so perhaps in time rule the Vigs as a client lord of the Beornings and bring them together as one folk. i mean his name does mean Half King.  ;)
