Struggling to his feet, his shield-arm badly bruised beneath his iron mail, Thunar holds up his empty hand.  "A shield," he gasps.  Viglar, eyes agog as he perches on his rock, takes up the cry.  "A shield!  Has this hero of our folk no friends here?"

Subtly, all attention turns toward Viglund, who nods his head.  Immediately, one of his bodyguard loosens the shield on his arm and starts pushing into the duel-field.

:ooc: There'll be a moment here while Thunar receives a new shield for anything you two want to do.  In particular, Grimbeorn has an opportunity here to end the duel... assuming that he's willing to attack dishonourably.

He is probably your enemy's best warrior, after all...

Hathcyn worked his way towards Rorin resigned to fate he could play little part un what was to transpire. He also feared to go too far knowing that his shield would be the only one offered to Grimbeorn should he need one.

Grimbeorn is good to his word both to giving the people a chance to escape but also to his honor when it comes to combat.  He will prove himself to these people and his own.

"Thunar, leave the shield and yield, let's end this. You are a warrior worthy of great praise and honor, you have my respect," says Grimbeorn.

:ooc:
Grimbeorn is no fool, he will be Defensive, Defensive Fighting if his offer is rejected and/or someone else enters the fray. Give 2 dice for +4.

Thunar appears slightly startled that Grimbeorn has addressed him, and regards him quizically as he accepts a replacement shield and hefts it gingerly on his injured arm.  "Would that it were otherwise," he says, simply, before beating sword on shield to signal his readiness once more.  Then he stoically resumes the duel, parrying and blocking, feinting and countering as Grimbeorn lays on once more.

Inevitably, the larger man's assault slows, but rather than take the initiative and push back, Thunar takes a slight step backwards, his eyes widening.  He raises his sword-arm and has enough time to call out "no!"  But anything further he may have said is drowned out by the cry of Viglar as he leaps from his rocky perch into the dueling field, his spiked mace swinging at the back of Grimbeorn's head...

:ooc: Treachery!  Viglar joins the fight, and with two bonus dice for an unexpected attack!

Thunar's warning is enough for the cunning son of Beorn, and he ducks just in time for Viglar's wild swing to pass harmlessly over his head.  Viglar, drunk on his own self-importance as much as on the wine he has consumed, lands poorly, rolling in the dirt before springing unsteadily back to his feet.

Thunar, meanwhile, retreats, looking uncertainly from Grimbeorn to Viglund, but the lord of Fystenheorth makes no move to stop the fight.

Hathcyn observed and waited. This treachery would not be forgotten, but the outcome would be determined by how this played out and who did what in the next few moments. Hathcyn split his gaze between his lord and Viglund.
