Encouraged by their lucky hit, the trolls heave further stones down the bluff.  In the mists, they throw blindly but with such force that the rocks shatter when they strike the hard ground, spraying all around with shivers of stone that somehow seem to find tender and unprotected parts.  Their constant roaring, at least, makes their whereabouts clear, and Esgalwen and Gwaithlim quickly have bows unslung and arrows nocked to respond.

A cracking noise from above, weirdly like the sound of splintering stone below, accompanies a sudden cry of pain as Esgalwen finds her mark through the mist.

:ooc: Nice sidelining of the great bear LOL   btw you took END off the other troll

Gwaithlim and Esgalwen had been at the back of the party on the receiving end of the shards as the rocks smashed above and over the others.  Concentrating fire on one of the enemy, the elf lets arrow fly at his ancient tusked foe.

Hathcyn looked around the area, there was no staying here while the trolls were above them so aloft he would have to go.

"Firewatcher! We must climb!"

:ooc: Apologies - I completely missed that sentence until just now.  In my defence, the trolls are hard to make out through the mist, so you're mostly just shooting (never 'firing', the two archers I now have in my house tell me - fire isn't involved) at whatever's making the roaring noise.

The Tusked troll needs a Protection roll (TN 16) for Gwaithlim's arrow:
:00: 1d12 : 10, total 10
Rolled 4d6 : 3, 6, 3, 1, total 13

The Elf's arrow streaks into the mist, striking home with a loud thwack, followed by the sound of heavy, stumbling feet as the troll, surprised by the sudden pain, loses its footing.  For a bare moment, it seems as if it will stumble all the way off the edge of the bluff, and Hathcyn and Arbogast keep warily away from where it might land.  But the moment passes, and all that comes down is another stone, blindly cast, that shears a branch from a nearby tree.

:ooc: Looks like it's just a flesh wound.  13 damage though, which is not to be sneezed at.

:ooc: They should work now, Matt. I had to change the code to https:// instead of the old http://...

Paul, you might want to update your template that you use for combat headers so that it addresses the code to our now secure website. I will update the one in Dropbox.

And yes - I know you do not 'fire' an arrow, but when you type a post on a cellular phone, smaller words are easier to achieve when you are all thumbs.  ;) I would say that loosing an arrow is even better than shooting it.

:ooc: Agreed.  And I'm not nit-picking - I talk about 'firing' arrows all the damn time.  I've started doing it deliberately to annoy my wife and son.  Good times.
