Hathcyn felt that Grimbeorn would be able to handle their foe. The casket was the primary goal, even if were only to solidify the farce.

Hathcyn raised his two handed spear i to a high guard. The shaft above his head, the point angled downward. His stance was like that of a crane before spearing a fish. Rapidly he ran directly at the carriers of the decorated trunk. His feet rapidly closing the distance so that the length of the spear and the sprint brought the thief porters in range and he stabbed quickly with his spear.

Ooc: using my swift trait to close the distance and a Forward Stance to Attack the fleeing fighter.

Esgalwen nodded at Arbogast, even as he pressed on his attack. She ran towards the building upon which the archer had stood and looked to where she could climb. Hooking her bow over her shoulder, she grabbed the wooden beams that made up the eaves of the structure and hoisted herself up.

Esgalwen threw a leg over the shingled roof and continued to pull herself up. All the time she kept her eyes peeled to where the archer once stood, but she no longer knew what happened below.

:ooc: Aaaaaaaaaand that's the end of him.  Tom, do you want to narrate how Hathcyn takes the man out?

Doug, nice work on getting Esgalwen up on to the roof.  The shingles are steep, though, and slippery with December frost, so it'll take another two successes for her to get over to the side the Bowman was on.

The two handed blood candle of the Beorning sprung the flame of battle from the chest of the warrior. As the candle sprung to life it showered the worn planks of Lake-town with its light of life. The figure stood poised like a twisted scarecrow fixed upon a pole. Then drawing back the shaft of the spear the figure fell to the ground and added its own life water to the lake. The  Gondorian chest crashed to the ground now lacking one of it's porters.

The Beornig leveled his spear at the remaining one in challenge.

:ooc: It'll be an attack against the spearman - Hathcyn was Swift enough to slip past him, but Grimbeorn is too big and bulky to get in position for a dual strike in the confines of the alley.

Given that, nothing is going to save the spearman, but let's do a Protection test anyway, just for fun:

As hot blood melts frost rime in the alley, Arbogast feints low with the Warden's Axe and then brings the edge of his shield hard into the corner of the Dorwinish man's jaw.

With a crunch clearly audible to the men of the watch who approach what is now the aftermath of the bloody skirmish, the Dorwinish's eyes roll backward in his head, his knife clatters once again to the street and his body drops like a mantle cast aside by its wearer.  Setting down his axe and shield in an effort to demonstrate his peaceful intentions, Arbogast hurries to the side of Tafan, who struggles to breathe around a black-feathered arrow lodged deep in his ribs.

As he does, the crowd gasps in horror as Esgalwen, climbing higher and higher above the street, momentarily loses her footing and slides several feet toward the flimsy gutter before catching herself.  Ignoring the shouts of the watch, she climbs once again toward the crest of the roof, aided this time by a trail free of frost where her body shook the ice loose from the shingles.

In the alley, the youth, realising that any effort to continue dragging the casket would be fruitless, drops his purloined prize with a loud thump.  As he turns to flee, Grimbeorn catches the look in his eye.  It is the same pure, unreasoning terror as a trapped, wounded animal.  It is clear to the grizzled prince of the Carrock that there is no room in the boy's head for any thought that might be uttered in words.

:ooc: Doug, Esgalwen would've gotten up and over the roof crest to the bowman next round, so I'll give you the results of that once we're out of combat.

Tom, Matt, there's a split-second to act before the youth tries to flee the scene, if there's anything you want to try (including an Athletics roll against TN 16 to catch him before he gets very far).

Arbogast will try to use Healing on Tafan's wound:
