Grimbeorn is enraged.  Even after taking caution about his last strike that downed the great goblin, he was still rattled by a great strike from the Uruk captain.  He paused long enough to set his shield firmly against the pit spawn, held tighter his grip on his forefather's axe, and engaged.

The goblin feast hall is suddenly awash with the screeching of goblins, the clash of arms on shields and, above it all, Grimbeorn's bellow of pain and fury.  Arbogast knows well what that sound portends, and keenly does he feel the new terror of knowing that the Beornings' chief might soon be without an heir, but the forward press of the goblins and Uruks has separated him from his companion and he has no way of coming to his aid.

He shifts his shield to deflect a goblin's blow only to take the hammer blow of the Uruk's broad-blade on the haft of the Warden's Axe.  By the time he recovers, he sees Laeral almost borne down by her foes, only to rise once more as they flinch back from an unexpected swoop from her owl.  Despite the moment of respite, she is plainly weakened.

Time is short, he knows.  With the initial advantage of surprise now spent, the enemy's numbers will quickly begin to work against the Fellowship.  It is vital that the fury of the attack not diminish.

"On them!" he cries.  "Fell axes and bright spears shall carry this day!"

:ooc: Arbogast is foregoing his attack this round to enhearten the companions (Adventurer's Companion, p. 108) and hopefully get us a few rounds of non-weariness.

Hathcyn heard the cries and strikes around him, but he also knew that his presence alone kept the beasts from flanking his friends.

"We speak with axe and spear! Carrock! Carrock, you have heard this cry before. Now your doom is upon you!"

Hathcyn had become fey and the light shone in his face as he slew.

:ooc: So, to sum up:

- Hathcyn hits one of the goblins for 9 :<3: loss (presumably another kill for the Longspear)
- Arbogast stems off weariness for Laeral (and Grimbeorn, unless he's wounded) for two rounds
- Grimbeorn misses the Uruk leader (provisionally - bonus dice or Hope may change this)
- Laeral hits one of her targets with a 32 :%: :%: dealing 21 :<3: loss and turning them into chunky salsa even without a protection test.

Provisional protection test anyway:

:ooc: RESULTS

• Grimbeorn (defensive), with use of his advantage dice rolls an 18 and misses his target; he does gain a +4 bonus to PARRY this round
• Arbogast (open) encourages the companions and staves off 2 rounds of weariness for everyone (including himself)
• Laeral (defensive) rolls a 32 :g: :%: :%: success for 20 :<3: ; due to the near perfection of this roll, I am giving her the success against both of her enemies and essentially spearing through one into the other. Damage is split between both (10 each), but still results in KILLS
• Hathcyn (open) rolls an 18 success for 9 :<3: loss. Tom, you stated you are attacking a Uruk, but you are not facing any Uruks - just snaga goblins, so I will just make it a KILL on goblin 1 and thus lessen the number of attacks the bad guys have.

#10
Laeral moved deftly around her foes, the tip of her spear keeping the snarling snagas at bay. She sidestepped to flank one of her foes on its right and then thrust so quickly and accurately that her weapon pierced the goblin through its torso and ran deep into the chest of the other. The Elf-warrior moved again withdrawing her weapon, as she did, and the snagas fell limply to the floor.

Not far away, Hathcyn, also slayed an enemy. Only at the head of the table, where Arbogast and Grimbeorn struggled, did the battle continue in earnest.

Laeral moved to help her new friends, but a goblin jumped from the table and intercepted her. At the same time, arrows began to whistle in the air.

:ooc: Because they are firing into melee, the PC's will each gain a +2 to their Parry rating from the archers. Also, if I roll a :g: on an archer attack, he strikes one of his own folk.
