With a dreadful meat-sound, Luindîs' arrow punches through the young man's leather sark and lodges deep in his stomach.  His eyes widen in pain and fear but only a tiny moan escapes his lips as he topples backward, his bow dropping from limp hands.  An anguished scream arises from the running woman, who redoubles her efforts and draws ahead of the man next to her, who stumbles to a halt ever so briefly, his face sick with horror.

Hurt, and knowing that his last ally has fallen, the red-cloaked man casts aside his shield and takes to his heels as soon as he can bring himself beyond the reach of Hathcyn's spear.

:ooc: Tom, the result of the guard's attempt to flow is up to you - Hathcyn is Swift, so if he wants to catch the guy he will.  Otherwise, he'll escape into Mirkwood.

:ooc: Another Penetrating hit!  Let's see how the young guy fares (vs TN 16):

Luindîs' laugh at Gwaithlim's wide shot rings out across the clearing as she nocks another arrow.  "See how a daughter of Mirkwood shoots!" she calls as she draws and aims.

:ooc: Luindîs is still targeting the Beardless guard (TN 17).

Ooc: so close. That's 9 endurance so this dude's got 1 left.

Another glancing blow from the spear of Hathcyn. However, the crossguard of his great mounted spear made sufficient contact. Despite the armor the swordman wore he felt the crush of ribs beneath. The Carrock had been avenged with another blow upon the men of the false king.

"Servant of a false and foolsome king your blood shall be cast upon the scales of his judgement. CARROCK! CARROCK!"

The Longspear bent to the task. In his experience a quick and short fight was always the best alternative.

But the Elf, alert to the threat, steps aside before the shaft can reach him and fox-blooded Hathcyn is likewise feet of foot, never moving quite where his foe expects.

Within the house, Esgalwen frantically tugs at her bindings seeking any looseness that might be found.  "Stop!  Please stop!" her captor cries.

Neither Hathcyn's words nor his spear afright the red-cloaked man, who bellows "the Hill and the King!" as he buffets the Foresthelm with his sword.  Nearby, the boy-archer takes aim at Gwaithlim as the man running from the fields cries "no!".

My deepest sympathies, Doug.  I hope that you and your family are bearing up okay.
