After Fengel and Celdrahil returned, Dirnhael met them for something to eat, and talk of strategy.
"What did you find? The men that we fought were many, but barely controlled," he asked. "is there reason to believe that this Gibbet King has any more than a band of marauders at his disposal?"

"That band of marauders was deadly enough. Our coming more than likely turned the tide of battle for these folk. I am sure the Gibbet King sent what he thought would be enough to strike fear and terror into this folk if not outright destroy them. We were not reckoned in his thinking so I don't know if that was the full measure of his power or not."

"We followed the band north along the river. They attempted to loose us in the mire, so they know the area well, at least that of it along the river. They were able to outdistance us and then take cover on a hill top. The men were tired, and ill trained for an assault, so we retired to their taunts and jeers."

"I am headed back to the river, there may be better answers to our questions there. Having the people see us today will be just as important as our appearance in the fight last night. In the day they will match our faces and our bearing to the deeds we did last night. This will be as important to maintaining the will of this folk as was slaying the orcs last night. The number and status of their equipment will give us an indication of our enemies strength, and we may find other rafts across the river to tell us how much bigger the attack could have been had that assault been successful. There is much to do here, and the morning passes join me in my walk."

:ooc:This happens before the others get back in the afternoon...

Once ready, Durgil sets out on a mission of diplomacy with the local gentry.  Not knowing where to start first, he talks with the innkeep about who he might see and any information about who they are.

Dirnhael looked back to Edrahil; still gravely injured but alive. He had seen the Elf's amazing recuperative powers first-hand, and there was little that he could do for his friend here.
"I will join you," he replied to Celdrahil. "Let us learn more of our foes -- and meet our newest allies."

In twos, the companions rode away once more from the small inn.

They rode as a foursome for a short while until the road into Tharbad split and so, too, did the companions. Dirnhael and Celdrahil turned their mounts to the north to the small village where the battle for the river had taken place the night before. The other two riders were Durgil and Nain - the Dwarf not wanting to let one of his friends go alone into any new dangers and also not wanting to sit in the inn playing nursemaid while his friends discovered what was happening here. Durgil thought it a wise idea, as the Dwarves of both Khazad-dûm and the Blue Mountains often sent trade along the great North-South Road. Any lord within Tharbad would certainly recognize the blood of the Dúnedain in Durgil and would welcome a Dwarf from the mountains.

Behind them, the small inn was left to sit quietly while inside the nurses tended to Edrahil and Fengel kept guard. The Éothraim did not wish to leave their wounded companion unprotected and so he watched with a grim look as his friends disappeared over the horizon. It was everything in him to be there with his Lord Dirnhael, but he knew Edrahil needed him more. His only consolation was that the Sindar had taken well to the healers medicines. Fengel marvelled at Edrahil's recuperative ability.

:ooc: It's not a problem at all, Tom. It is fun to have the scenes expand out and gives players more opportunities to roleplay.
