Situation: The company is waylaid by a group of hired swords - 5 horsemen attack and two remaining archers stand ready.

Situational Modifiers: Dirnhael is Wounded -3

NPC swordsmen will have standard Hit Points.

Physical Modifiers: The snowy ground is slippery and will impose -3 penalty to ALL physical actions (except archery). Combat from atop a mount will provide an advantageous position bonus of +2 to any PC that is fighting against a non-mounted opponent, but understand that fighting while on horse back requires the animal have the Steady ability otherwise there will be an additional -2 penalty to ALL combat actions.

Initiative (for round 2):
Fengel (+3) 12
Pethron (+2) 11
Vidugavin (+1) 11
Dirnhael (+5-3) 10
Mercenaries (+2) 6

The fighting became frantic as the Company was quickly outnumbered and the mercenaries showed little in their eyes for offering any quarter. The companions had made quick work of the skulking archers, but the horsemen seemed the greater threat. Dirnhael swung two vicious attacks at one of his opponents, but they were parried by sword and shield. Then the Dúnadan was put on the defensive as the two men before him brought their own weapons to bear. Dirnhael could do little to stave off the attacks and felt himself go weak as he was stabbed multiple times. His companions fared better, but not by much.

Yet there would be no surrenders here. These men had been sent to slay them, and so Dirnhael lifted Vorandúr again to dispatch his enemies.

What none of the combatants knew was that Vidugavin had arrived from the north, and the man of Rhovanion saw three men beset upon by seven others. He knew something here was wrong and drew forth his weapon. From the south came another, his horse a flash of white in the snowy landscape about.

Fengel once again brought Cerduil down upon his opponents, hoping to at least dispatch one of them soon he pressed them with a flurry of attacks.

Pethron, worried about duelling with a superior warrior, adoped a more defensive position, and made a tentative attack with his sword, all the while hoping help from friends would arrive soon.

For a fleeting moment, Dirnhael panicked. These mercenaries were far more formidable and numerous than he expected, and his plan to divide them had not been successful. He may have led his friends to their deaths on this snowy plain.

But until that moment, he would make these would-be murderers taste his blade - Ioreth's blade - and as many of them would feel his pain as he could muster. He took four mighty swings with Vorandur and saved what energy he had to defend himself from the blows he knew would be coming.

The rider from the south hastened along, seeing his friends hard pressed. He hadn't seen Fengel and Dirnhael for most of two months, but he recognized them from their forms and mounts - the other man that was with them was not Durgil, and so the Eldar wondered what had become of him. But at the moment, they were in need and Edrahil reacted.

He canted under his breath enacting his arts and with a thought yanked Pethron's attacker from his sadde. Lifting him backwards and high, Edrahil slammed him into the body of one of the great trees that grew close and then let the man plummet twenty feet to the ground.

:ooc: Let me know if you would like to use any Courage to change results. I will hold off on making the mercenaries attacks until I hear back from Paul and Shawn.

I also need Vidugavin's attacks before the mercs will go. He is in range to ride in and attack this round but question is... does he know who he would be helping and why?

:ooc: Since Vorandur's enchantment grants a +5 to Courage spent in an Armed Combat action, my understanding is that spending a CP right now would grant Dirnhael a +8? If that's correct, burn 3 of my 4 on Actions 2, 3 and 4 - all which would then become hits... gotta put some of these guys down fast.

If I'm mistaken, though, please save 'em all - I wouldn't hit them and then I'll really need them to defend myself.  :(

:ooc:  I'm SOOO sorry guys; finals week.  Dead week before that.  I'm here now, though!

Pethron stared death in the eye ... and then death was whisked away in a heartbeat! The scribe watched open mouthed as his attacker was lifted from the saddle, slammed into a nearby tree and dropped to the ground stunned. Had Pethron not been gripping them so tightly, he likely would have let his weapons fall to the ground.

Muttering praise to Elbereth, he thought he spotted another rider on the road through the trees, but the clash of arms behind him drew Pethron's attention back to the battle.

:ooc: Okay, sorry for the delays here guys... been busy with Christmas and New Years holidays.

To recap...

Shawn, your Courage bonus when Vorandúr is wielded is +5 instead of +3, not +8, so I will leave rolls as they are.

Zehnwaters, your PC is from the same territories as Fengel and so it is safe to assume that his Wisdom check worked and he recognized one of his own folk, and so attacked the enemy.

Paul, I deducted two Courage from your character sheet. You did the following damage to H3 and H4:

H3: Roll(2d6)+7: 3,6,+7 Total:16 -2 armour = 14 [takes him to Dazed -1]
H4: Roll(2d6)+7: 6,5,+7 Total:18 -2 armour = 16 [takes him to Dazed -1]
Then Vidugavin's arrows hit H2 and H3:

H2: takes 7 -2 armour = 5 damage [takes him to Healthy -0]
H3: takes 8 -2 armour = 6 damage [total 20] [takes him to Injured -3]
