Immediately around the two men, the battle began to slow, as the combattants became onlookers. Defenses were not lowered, but all seemed to know that the results of the fight between Fengel and Harizän could well determine the victor on the field.

For the Sagath, it was the fact that Harizän was the dominating will that held their army together. There was no chain of command in the Easterling army. You did what the leader ordered, or faced death.

The Éothraim knew this and saw Fengel as the point of an arrow, whose deadly shaft could kill the heart of this army in one swift blow.

The question was, would the young warrior be able to beat the huge Easterling?

Situation: Fengel and Harizän commence one-on-one melee

Situational Modifiers: Warrior-born abiltiy (+2 to all AC, RC, UC, for the duration of the battle). Fengel will get a +2 to his attacks due to Harizän's two-handed attacks, but Harizän's combat manoeuvres give him a +4 to damage.

I am granting the Pawn of Prophecy edge to Fengel for this combat session. What that allows you Paul is +20 points to add to ANY rolls (initiative, skill or damage) in any increment, as long as it is +2 or greater. This is in addition to any current COURAGE that your PC has (which is 3 points right now).

Harizän is standard hit points and wound levels.

As Harizan parried his retaliation, Fengel saw a chance to strike again and swiftly took the opportunity.

OOC: Is Dirnhael getting close enough to engage? I know a "West Side Story" situation isn't exactly in order for this duel, but staying in character, Dirnhael would be willing to be "dishonorable" if it helped his friend. That said, as long as Fengel is holding his own - and assuming Dirnhael isn't otherwise engaged, anyway -  he would certainly stay out of the fight.

Durgil looked on as the effect of his coordinated attacks did their damage.  As he surveyed the scene below, he wasn't any less ready for battle to continue.  He ordered eyes to all their weak points in case Easterlings attempted to outflank them and the others kept their bows at the ready.  "If some rake aims to take advantage of our friends during the battle, remove the threat immediately."

Harizän attempts to parry Fengel
TN 25, 22, 25 AC +14, Specialty +2, Warwise +1, Weapon Mastery +3, Masterwork Axe +1, Warrior-born +2= +23

Action 2- Roll(2d6)+23: 6,4,+23 Total:33 SUCCESS
Action 3- Roll(2d6)+23: 3,1,+23 Total:27 SUCCESS

You may still apply PoP points to overcome his parries. They work like COURAGE and do not have to be declared before an action. If you do not want to use any, here are Harizän's attacks.

Harizän attacks Fengel

[OOC:] Shawn, you are right on the edge of the ring surrounding the combat... people have all stopped fighting and are now watching.

The Easterling caught Cerduil's blade on the metal-shod haft of his axe, and then batted away Fengel's other swings with uncanny speed. Harizän then hefted the weapon over his head and brought it down on the Éothraim in two deadly arcs.

Yet, the afternoon sun and extreme activity were beginning to get to the Sagath. Beads of sweat were forming on his brow, in great quantities, and were beginning to run into his eyes. Harizän stepped back from Fengel and quickly wiped his arm across his face.

What no one knew was the slow effect the poison was beginning to have. Deadly in larger quanities, Gléowyn was only able to introduce small amounts into Harizän's blood with her fingernails, but it was enough to cause the large man's heart to race, create nausea from the exertion, and sap the Easterling's energy.

Fengel will use 2 PoP points to his last attack roll making it a 27, that should cause some damage hopefully.

Parry Harizan's attacks: TN24, 21
AC+13; Spec.+2; shield+3
Action 4:Roll(2d6)+18: 3,6,+18 Total:27
Action 5:Roll(2d6)+18: 1,3,+18 Total:22-5=17+4PoP=21 nice time to roll a 1.

Initiative:Roll(2d6)+3: 3,4,+3 Total:10 may use PoP if needed.

This truly was a battle that Fengel would remember always, if he survived, he thought.  He was amazed at how fast the sagath was.  If the poison his sister had inflicted upon him was effecting him, Fengel could not tell it in his ferocious attacks.  Thankfully Fengel managed to parry the mighty axe's fury this time, though his shield suffered for it as splinters exploded into the air.

[OOC:] It will require 3 points Paul. You have to beat his number, not tie it.

Here is the damage from Cerduil: Roll(2d6)+7: 5,5,+7 Total:17 Nice!  ;)

It was Fengel's masterworked blade that drew first blood. Harizän changed his defensive stance to quickly to maneuver his battle-axe for an attack, and the longsword slashed into his side. The Sagath took a couple stuttered steps back after his axe was again deflected by the Éothraim's shield, his hand going to the wound. He pulled it back to stare at his blood and then, in a rage, re-commenced the attack on Fengel.
