Situation: Two B'rel's are currently engaged by eight Wasp-class fighters, while it attempts to catch up with the Columbia. I will be rolling initiative for each round and for each ship.

Fighter mechanics: Each wing of fighters will be treated as '1' ship for purposes of actions and movement, based on the following:

  • Each wing may make, as a group, 2 movement actions per round
  • As long as the wing did not make 2 movement actions in a round, each individual ship may take 1 action to fire a weapon system
  • Each fighter will be treated as an individual ship in regards to targeting, taking hits and damage
  • Players may roll initiative and call maneuvers for the fighters

Starting Ranges: The Columbia is at Extended +3 range to the B'rel's; Wasp wing 1 & 2 are at Extended +2 range to the B'rel's

Situational Modifiers and Conditional Rules: The CODA system makes no reference to weapon re-charge and so I am going to apply the following rules:

  • Phasers may be fired each round
  • Photon/Disruptor Torpedoes need 1 round to re-charge

So if you fire your photon torpedoes in round 1, you cannot fire again until round 3 - so be careful when you plan multiweapon fire maneuvers.

Carryover bonuses: none

Initiative:
Columbia - 10
Fighter wing 1 - 10
Fighter wing 2 - 10
B'rel 1 - 10
B'rel 2 - 8

"Good luck, gents," Darkan says as he signals to helm to disengage from the engagement.  They just need a few minutes and they can get to the planetoid to finish the repairs, pick up their missing crew, and get to safety.

"We need a way to rig up an 'accident' to keep the Klingons off our trail.  Maybe using an unguided torpedo to detonate this debris or have it crash to the surface and then we coast a bit to get rid of our ion trail, making it hard for them to follow us.  Other ways to accomplish this will be listened to but we need answers now."

OOC: Darkan's plan is similar to Kirk's in Wrath of Khan, "hide" the ship on a side diametrically opposite of the hostile ships, maneuvering to keep the position out of sight of them.

[OOC:] That was such a cool scene in that movie, but you know what I never understood... how could the Enterprise track the positions of both ships, but Khan had lost all contact with his enemy? It's good to be the good guys!  (D

OOC: Well maybe the Reliant didn't have as good of sensors ... but oh crap, that's us isn't it? hehe or because they were able to tap into the transponder codes and track the ship via its own sensor readings?

"Once we're away, we should be able to engage the Prairie Masker and go silent as best as possible while still damaged.  Thoughts?" Darkan queried, looking around the bridge with the comm open to Engineering.

"Two lead. Wing, accelerate to attack... photorps at best possible range!"

The Wasp attack wings' leader spoke the order and the flight raced faster towards the two B'rel's. Moments later, the Kro'lok was assaulted by a full spread of photon torpedoes. The high speed weapons bombarded the ship's shields, blowing through them and decimating the ship within. The once sleek bird of prey was broken and burning as Temoc's ship flew by.

"Captain!" the klingon sensor operator yelled. "The Kro'lok has been destroyed!"

Temoc's face screwed into a rage, "FIRE! Destroy what you can of these nasty craft and then cloak the vessel!"

The Klingon captain had no desire to run from this fight - it was not part of his warrior instinct - but with the almost immediate loss of his fellow B'rel, he needed to re-think his strategy. The Federation vessel, though wounded, was still more than a match for his now one Bird of Prey.
