Round 1 - Ambush

Fengel's attack took the Easterlings, along with their vulpine companions, by surprise. The Éothraim warriors from Thergas and the companions pressed the advantage and drove into the enemy, all the while the folk of Burh Donun scattered in fear, but each hoped that their village would soon be released from the bondage laid on them by the invaders.

Situation: The Easterlings are taken by surprise having become 'comfortable' in their exploitation of the Éothraim.

Situational Modifiers: All characters are given immediate initiative, but 1 action must be used to ready a weapon or move to engage except for any characters using ranged weapons. The 4 Éothraim warriors on sentry duty may fire bows but the six hidden in the village may only make one action to attack this round due to having to rush from hiding.

Easterling / Warg Stats: Mook health levels for these baddies... 5 hits for Easterlings TN 10 defence, 6 for Wargs TN 11 defence

Physical Modifiers: none

Initiative:

Edrahil
Fengel
Durgil
Galudir
Dirnhael
Nain
Éothraim
Easterlings
Wargs

Quote from: GoBOOC: Feel free to revise the effect of Quick-draw if you think that my use proves too unbalancing.

Hey Matt - I edited the ranged combat actions above for round 1 - Quick Draw by definition gives a character 1 free action per round to draw or ready a weapon. Based on your previous post though, it sounded like Durgil was ready in a position of clear shot with weapon loaded, so I removed any need to have to draw and ready the bow, only reload it.

To everyone, these baddies are Mook so damage rolls are not relevant - the level of success will determine how they are affected.

  • Marginal and Complete Success does 1 HIT
  • Superior Success does 2 HITS
  • Extraordinary Success does 3 HITS

The enemy of course will have to roll damgae on you guys if they hit. I will be rolling enemy parries and attacks and Eothraim attacks after Dirnhael and Edrahil go.

Any questions, just ask...

OOC: The errata states that readying an arrow can also be done with the Quick-draw edge, but I see no constraints on a number of times this may be done in a round:

Quote"Q: Does Quick-draw allow a character to reload a missile weapon as a free action?
A: Yes. Quick-draw lets you "ready any personal weapon as a free action," and to reload is to "ready another arrow" (per Table 9.3 on page 215)."

This is why I made my statement (also why a number of people spoke up about this on the boards).

OOC: I would assume that Dirnhael was ready for a fight as the Easterlings approached - everyone knew the Company didn't come to parley. ;) To that end, I'm going to assume that Dirnhael had his shield more or less at the ready, his hand on Vorandur's hilt, and was - judging by the map - trying to hang out by the fire and look inconspicuous. If that doesn't make sense, please feel free to adjust my post.

Action 0: Quick-draw Vorandur

Action 1: Attack Warg engaged with Fengel (TN 11)
Dirnhael AC Longsword + bonuses = +19
Roll(2d6)+19: 6,4,+19 Total:29

Action 2: Attack Warg engaged with Fengel (TN 11) if still alive, if not, move to and attack Warg facing Durgil.

Action 3: Attack Warg engaged with Fengel (TN 11) if still alive, if not, move to and attack Warg facing Durgil.

Next Round Initiative: Roll(2d6)+2: 5,1,+2 Total:8

Vorandur sang with a metallic ring as Dirnhael loosed it from its scabbard, and he charged the Wargs, hoping that they could bring them down quickly.

The companions jump to attack, following Fengel's lead. Both Dirnhael and the Éothraim swung their blades in rapid succession, quickly overwhelming the animals defenses - Cerduil cut deep into its throat as Vorandúr sank into its chest. The beast fell dead at their feet and they immediately turned to fend off the rush of Sagath warriors.

Around the village, Fengel's sentries opened fire only to have a volley returned by the Easterling warriors. The Sagath leader regained his composure and in his rage at the deception of Bragos' folk, he threw his spear and pierced the man through his torso. The elder Éothraim fell to his knees clutching the haft of the weapon as his life slipped away. In utter panic, the folk of Burh Donun began to scatter, the women and children screaming as they ran for the safety of their homes or the fields that surrounded the village.

The Sagath warriors moved into action faster then Fengel had hoped, but he quickly parried their attacks.  His anger grew hotter upon seeing Bragos's death.  "The leader will pay for that" he thought to himself as he pressed into the two warriors.

OOC: Hey Paul, see my edits on your post, you used up your 4 actions to attack and so need to apply the multiple action penalty - feel free to add Courage or whatever.

Also, I understand that Fengel's attack would have caused a bit more delay in the Sagath's reaction time, but in this format of play (meaning PbP) combat can get involved due to the number of combatants and bog down the pace of our game. So, since they were mooks anyway, I let them react this round to expedite what should be a pretty quick sweep.

Sorry about that, I meant to subtract for the extra actions.  Actually Fengel's first parry is action 6 so that one would be -10 making it a total of 10 and the other would be -15 if allowed at all.  I think he'll have to take the hits.  I updated the character sheet with 17 wound points making Fengel -1 dazed.

OOC

Apologies for posting this in the middle of an exciting combat. Unfortunately, my ability to participate regularly in the game has been hampered by real life over the past couple of months. Family and work have been a bit overwhelming for me, to the point that I find it hard to sit down at the computer for gaming once my day winds down.

I think it best if Edrahil is played by someone who can commit more fully to the game, as both the character and the story are deserving of this. I have really enjoyed my time playing with you guys, and congrats to tomcat and everyone else for creating such a fantastic story. I will continue to keep up with things as best I can, and post to the discussion boards from time to time.

Thanks for letting me participate!

Cheers,
Brian

OOC: Hey Nikitas, your post is fine - but remember, a character can parry too.

Galudir would have had:
AC +9, Specialty +2, MAP -5 = +6
Thus 2+6+6 = 14 before any courage points, which would have covered the TN.

If you want to adjust your post, feel free.
