Hardly less bestial than the wolves they so recently rode, the orcs fight back, those who are not close enough to swing swords nocking heavy, black-fletched arrows and taking aim.

:ooc: The orcs nearest to Hathcyn attack him (all TN 13 as he hasn't moved out of Forward stance):

Like a surge of foulness erupting from some fetid and ill-covered hole, the orcs crash against Hathcyn.  One creature, its cheeks flapping loose from some grievous injury not long past, brings its blade down where Hathcyn grips the haft of his spear so that the Longspear is forced to abandon his grip on it or lose his hand, and another takes advantage of his distraction while he dodges three swords at once to land a brutal kick in his stomach.

The ever-advancing companions can only watch as the Foresthelm doubles over.  Then the hammer-blow sound of arrows burying themselves in shields announces the arrival of orcish arrows.

:ooc: A better round for the orcs means a much worse time for Hathcyn.  The Torn-mouthed orc will spend a :%: to disarm him, and he loses a total of 12 Endurance.  Gwaithlim takes a hit for four Endurance loss and a Protection roll (TN 12):

One of these finds its mark upon Gwaithlim's body but the mail wrought by the wrights of Imladris is strong indeed, and he shrugs off what might have felled one of lesser stature.

:ooc: The obvious thing is to grab your spear again.  Based on our list of manoeuvres, you'll need to make a Battle roll (TN 14) to pick the spear up despite the three enemies trying to stop Hathycn from doing that.  It will take up your whole round, so you won't have the option of fighting defensively or escaping.

Bear in mind, also, that Gwaithlim will arrive next round (though Hathcyn probably isn't aware of that at the moment).

Bent over as he is, it is scant effort for Hathcyn to drop lower and take up his spear once again.  Once in his hands, it seems to thrash about like a wounded serpent, forcing the orcs back and giving the Longspear enough room to rise as war cries of the folk of Beorn sound nearby.
