There is a dull thud as Anar loses control of his weapon and the axe-head lodges momentarily in part of the stockade.  Hissing a Khuzdul oath, he tugs it free, staggering a little as he does so.

Tate watched in horror as Anar was struck, but then came the relief of seeing his armor thwart the stab. It seemed strong enough to impale a bore, yet the Dwarven armor held. "Bless you, craftsman, for your skill!" he cried out to the Dwarf.

The minstrel needed to assure it would not happen again and swung his sword in a great arc, a scything attack meant to finish the Toft-man.

The sword came around, but the Raider saw it and made a quick step backward, his spear between him and his enemy. Tate felt his weapon strike, but it only sheared slightly into the man's pauldron and drew blood on his arm. Still it was enough to cause the Toft-man to drop his spear allowing Tate to step in and smash his shield into the man's larynx.

Momentum carried him forward, but Tate steadied himself. He stood panting over the Raider's fallen form, the Toft-man grabbing at his his throat, which was now crushed and swelling horrifically. Anar nodded at Tate, as he stood, in a gesture of thanks. With axe once more in the Dwarf's hand, the two strode forward to where more fighting raged. They hoped that Grimbeorn would have the fight done soon.

#9
Grimbeorn's axe beats down on the head of the Blood-moon man even as he brings back his blade to to slay the wounded Hathcyn, splitting helm and skull and spraying blood over the lower reaches of the banner.  Helping his wounded friend to his feet (as the sound of an impact on flesh, followed by ghastly choking, comes from nearby) the Son of Beorn sees the deep wound in his arm, from which Beorning blood spills still on Beorning soil.  "IDUNN!" he bellows, hoping that the tides of battle have not carried the woman of Mirkwood elsewhere.

"I am here," comes the swift reply, as Idunn, blood matting her braids, moves to examine the wound.

Hathcyn, not yet feeling the full force of his injury, grins at his chieftain and lord as if mad.  "We did it!" he exclaims.  All around them, Beorning warriors cheer in triumph as they pour over what remains of the stockade into the space created by the companions' assault.

"Hush, you proud fool," Idunn chides him, though gently, and begins to sing.  As she does, Hathcyn feels a growing haze of pain and nausea recede, not all at once but like the tide - each wave a little lesser than that which went before.  When the song ends, the bleeding, miraculously, has stopped, and Idunn is already binding the cut flesh with clean bandages.  "I have done what I can for now," she says to the two Beornings.  "If you can set pride aside for some time, I may be able to do more."

The warriors of the Blood Moon fall back, a great many casting down their weapons and fleeing, or yielding to what mercy may come from their conquerors.

:ooc: That is, indeed, a textbook dispatch by Grimbeorn.

To put Idunn's comments in a mechanical context, if the people who just won this fight spend the next battle wave In Reserve (which they can do, as the remainder of the army surges past them), they'll have a chance to catch their breath and recover their basic Heart rating in Endurance points, plus one point each for Idunn's attentions.  Hathcyn's wound is Treated, and he recovers Endurance equal to Idunn's Wisdom (which I'm declaring to be four, as I can't find her character sheet on the Profiler site).
