:ooc: KINDLING THE LAMP

Here is what will need done:

• Each round, the Lamp will require 1 spent point of Hope from each PC.

• That PC will then roll the feat die (d12) plus a success die plus a number of success die equal to the number of Hope they spent thus far in a previous round that was successful.

• Each test will be TN 12. This will be hard at first and become easier as they progress. If the test fails, they must try again in the next round, by spending another Hope. No Hope points can be spent on any failed test.

• Any roll that results in a :g: will count for fulfilling two successes

• Once they have 3 cumulative successes over however many rounds it takes, the PC will have sacrificed enough of themselves for their part of the lighting of the lamp.

I just moved this here so you all have it at hand.

Grimbeorn is overwhelmed with what's going on.  Only moments ago, he sees the elf fall to grievous wound and now somehow he's alive, spouting his overwrought speeches.  And now, he feels this tug, a pull from something -- a good, a fair something.  It reminds his of the elf, no... it feels more like her, the woman of his visions earlier.  It has a desire of him, his essence.  It struggles for its life, for the lack of a better term, against the Shadow that drains and oppresses it.  Grimbeorn gives freely to it for instinctively he must do so for everyone's sake.

:ooc: Awesome rolls, Matt, but I am going to wait to apply your attack roll - as the wolves go first.

I am just waiting on Ayrn, and Paul to reply for round 7...so give me some time.

Your second success on Hope, though is awesome!.

Morirúsë smiled when he saw the ancient lamp flicker.

For the briefest of moments, the darkness in the chamber retreated and the werewolf growled nervously. The monster could feel it - the intruders were kindling the jewels of Valinor. The ancient gems had been laying cold and dull in the beautiful darkness that made up its world - the light being absorbed by the fell-spirit. Like Ungoliant before, the Beast of Mirkwood had hated but desired the light of the stones - even as the light burned and tormented it.

But now there was a flicker. The noble spirit of Men and Elf were fueling the once dormant Light.

Like stars in the night sky, the light of the Lamp of Amon Lanc flared and it struck the many broken shards of glass that had once enclosed it in the golden mesh. The glass lay scattered on the floor of the cave, as well as still within the cage of the lamp, causing the flare to reflect in a myriad of sparkles. It was enough to enrage the fell-spirit and it growled its disdain, along with orders to its kin.

From outside the cave, the wild wolves that stood near the entrance were summoned to their master. Like a wind, the sleek, gray animals raced from the woods towards the entrance. Not far from them, a group of different hunters watched the pack run back to the cave and wondered at the reason. There had been a great deal of noise coming from within - cries of a woman, the challenges of men, and great snarls.

Inside the cave, the large, black, dire warg heard its master and it jumped!

Leaping high over Arbogast and Grimbeorn, the wolf landed across the chamber near the waterfall that tumbled from above. It grabbed at the sparkling lamp and shook it ferociously, only to toss it into the deep hole, down which the water ran.

Morirúsë cried out in horror as the ancient lamp, broken as it was, clattered and crashed down into the deep, subterranean recess. But then the Noldo smiled for Ulmo did not forsake them. Instead, the water - itself a flowing stream of crystals - began to glow with the faintly kindled light.  Morirúsë knew that the Vala would carry the light of Anor and Ithil into the cave, even from the deepest holes of earth.

Telcontar

Morirúsë yearned to kill the beast, to drink it's blood and bury itself up to the hilt of the beast. Now however, the Noldo elf knew he was not here to slay the beast outright, the sword was not the master. Force of arms would not defeat this foe and he knew the blade was more than capable of doing so with a well placed stroke. Instead he had to focus on lighting the lamp and grapple with the beast.

"Your time too is passing, like your master of old. May you too see the light at the end! Come black beast dance with me, each the last of their kin."

:ooc: Morirúsë will fight defensively and try to taunt the beast into focusing on him while the others get the lamp lit. Spending 5 attack dice to parry making his parry score TN 28 I believe.

As the light of the waters fills the cavern, Arbogast assesses the situation.  He sees with alarm that Esgalwen is bloodied and barely able to move.  Casting a quick glance at Grimbeorn, he sees that the larger man, though injured himself, is still standing tall and proud.

Without a word, he casts himself into the space left by the Dúnadan.
