With the sounding of the horn, activity erupted throughout the compound. Durgil and his men let fly arrows catching their targets completely unaware. At the gates, Anduring flashed forth from its scabbard and Dirnhael slashed into the weary guards before him. While he did, his companions also heard the horn of Durgil and raced forward into the melee.

Somewhere within the keep, a bell started clanging adding to the noise that disturbed the peaceful night.

Arkish was startled from his sleep by the clanging of the bell. His mind started racing. Were the under attack? Was that the sound of the arrival of reinforcements? He rose from his bed and grabbed his cloak and as he donned it, the sound of ringing steel cleared his thoughts of anything but attack. Were the Dúnedain here to assail them... this far north? Was this warrior named Dirnhael truly brash enough to attack one of the greatest fortresses on the north border? He must find out, and so he ran from his room down the hall to the great stair that took him to the first floor. There he saw his men running about and readying the castle for any assault. It appeared that the outer curtain wall had already been overtaken so the Easterlings prepared to hold the inner bailey.

In moments the front gates are swept of all enemies, except for above, and the Company race into the castle grounds!

Nimronyn [Sindarin Pale gleam] superior keen, superior grievous longsword - orc bane
Foe-slaying - when attacking a bane creature, reduce Edge of weapon by value of bearer's Valour

Shadow bane [when in Forward stance, add 1 success die to each attack]
Skirmisher [if carried encumbrance is 12 or less, increase Parry by +3 when in close combat stance]

The round is almost over except for the parries and dodges needed by Fengel and Dirnhael (if they want to). Even though Lunduf and Nain will come in and finish off the two guards attacking the two men, the guards hits will need to be parried first:

At the gates, the remianing two warriors attack, and the two guards above fire:
-Dirnhael must Dodge a TN 12 SUCCESS (Damage if not dodged: Roll(2d6)+1: 4,4,+1 Total:9)
-Dirnhael must parry a TN 15 SUCCESS (Damage if not dodged: Roll(2d6)+6: 2,2,+6 Total:10)

-Fengel must Dodge a TN 18 SUCCESS (Damage if not dodged: Roll(2d6)+1: 6,5,+1 Total:12)
-Fengel must parry a TN 13 SUCCESS (Damage if not dodged: Roll(2d6)+6: 5,4,+6 Total:15)

Post your Defense rolls and then total your damage - armor if hit. Remember your -5 cumulative ACTION ALLOWANCE penalties*.

*Carl, I do not know if you read this in the book I sent you yet, but each character is given 2 actions a round (3 to 4 when the character has the Swift Strike 1 or 2 Edge). After performing their allowed number of actions, you can perform more but at a cumulative -5 (per action) attempted.

As I have stated many times already in our game, I only allow a number of Offensive actions per round equal to your standard Action Allowance, but you may perform as many Defensive actions as you need (until it becomes futile, of course).

Well here is the GREAT NEWS Shawn... if you remember from the book (page 229, top middle column), anytime you make a successful Dodge, the Test result that you rolled becomes your new Defence rating for that round! So, the second attack actually missed due to your vaulting off the saddle, doing a flip, and taking the gold medal!   His Attack of 15 is actually a Disastrous Failure against your temp Defence of 31!

Hee hee hee... great job man!

Hey Carl, I don't know if you are holding off on this post due to your laptop or if you are needing help with the rules. Dodges are done by using the Dodge skill and Parries are done using Armed Combat skill. I will post this rounds for you so you can see for future reference:

Fengel goes to dodge the arrow TN 18:
Dodge +3, Action Allowance -5
Roll(2d6)-2: 5,4,-2 Total:7 FAILED (12 Damage - 5 Armor = 7)

Fengel goes to Parry Sword Attack TN 13:
AC +13, PB* +1, SB** +3, AA -10
Roll(2d6)+7: 4,6,+7 Total:17 SUCCESS

* Weapons Parry Bonus
** Shields Bonus

Fengel watched as his target collapsed in agony from Cerduil's edge, and instantly the thought passed what a fine weapon his captain had given him. The blade was true, and the adrenaline from combat raced through his chest.

As the man fell, Fengel saw the Easterling rider sweeping down upon him and raised Cerduil again to parry the blow. As he did he felt his entire body explode into fire. The two weapons clashed with the sound of ringing metal and the rider's sword was knocked away. Only then did the Eothraim notice the shaft of the arrow extending from his body.

Fengel let out a cry of anger and pain, yet only had seconds to realize what had happened to him before the next attack came.

 OOC: Thanks for the post, Doug, and you are right, as it was a little of both and also Sunday night was a bear so couldn't get on line.
