As the light waxes about the village, the full extent of the devastation becomes clear.  Apart from Sweartmereseld, which is itself scorched and scarred, not a single building remains standing within the palisade.  Some have been burned to the ground and some still smoulder.  Others have been torn down by orcish hands bent on destruction.  The earth has been churned by the feet of Men and orcs into a blood-sodden morass with barely a blade of grass to be seen.  But now from around the ends of the hall and down from its roof come the folk of the Tarn, staggering and bloodied, many leaning on each other more in hope of support than its expectation, but living.

Among them is Arbogast, filthy of face and hollow-eyed, almost dragging the Warden's Axe in the mud.  As soon as he marks the presence of Grimbeorn he approaches and wordlessly embraces the giant man.  "You came," he says.  "We never..." he heaves what may be a sob.  "We tired, but never ceased fighting."

Among them, such healers as can be found begin to search for those still living among the fallen.  Idunn, with a dull cry, finds Esgalwen crumpled against a half-burned timber and begins to sing the staunching song even as her fingers probe for shivered bones.  Long will their labours yet be this day.

:ooc: As the title suggests, this is a denouement thread for any post-battle RP you want to do.

:ooc: I want to make the roll just to see where things fall... Idunn will spend the mandatory :vv: to use the Staunching Song on Esgalwen:
TN 14 song 3d
:00: 1d12 : 8, total 8
Rolled 3d6 : 6, 2, 2, total 10

Narrator: Darkening of Mirkwood | Chronicle of the North | Tempest Rising | To Boldly Go | Welcome to the 501st!
Esgalwen [♦♦♦♦♦○] Dmg 10/12  |  Edge 8  |  Injury 16/18
Nimronyn [Sindarin Pale gleam] superior keen, superior grievous longsword - orc bane
Foe-slaying - when attacking a bane creature, reduce Edge of weapon by value of bearer's Valour

Shadow bane [when in Forward stance, add 1 success die to each attack]

:ooc: That is a :%: success, so Esgalwen gains back 2x her Wisdom score, so 8 :<3:

All of this is assuming that Idunn has not had any advances since she was run as a character, and I am using her stats in the Dropbox. I also make the assumption she is not :zz:

Now Idunn will make a Healing roll to treat Esgalwen's wound:

TN 14 healing 3d

:ooc: Mechanically, sure.  Feel free to make it longer if you want to for drama purposes.  The woman's been seriously bashed about!

The battle at the hall was over and the work of piling the bodies had begun. Hathcyn had set about the work detail diligently as something to do and stay busy. The orcs he examined and made piles of the bodies. Unlikely though it was that the woodmen would live here again he piled them outside of the fence and stripped them of their gear. He made two piles one to be buried after the bodies were burned and another of any gear that was suitable to men to be added to the armory.

Outside the wall he was the first to see them come.

Two Beornings came bearing a bier. Cut from two small trees they bore the poles with a great blue cloak strung between them. Their heads were bent, but as they came closer it was shown that it was not by the weight of the burden, but by sorrow.

They passed in silence through the ruined gates of Sweartmereseld boots drenched in mire but careful to keep their burden aloft. Behind it came a string of Beornings from the vale and together the procession made its way to Grimbeorn.

One of them approached.

"Wolfslayer."

Tears filled the man's eyes, a sight not common for the gruff men of Beorn.

"Your Thane the Halfman has fallen. By the banner of the Orcs in the think of the fight he held his stone aloft. Assailed on all sides we strove, but like the Carrock itself he stood firm rallying the warriors, his light shining. The small blade doing work that men of greater strength would have taken pride in. We did all we could to rally to him and we kept his body from the filth, but his light failed in our moment of victory and he he was overcome."

Unwilling to set their burden down in the filth and mire the men stood in silence holding the bier. The still body of Bandobras Bracegirdle Halfman of the Beornings lay dead. The stone of Ardillon upon his breast, and his blood stained sword by his side.

"His body shall be born thence under my banner to his hall and committed as might his customs be.  We must see that he be remembered in song for his word and deed were no less than a man thrice his stature and his heart greater still."  Grimbeorn bowed his head as the body of his tiny friend passed.  Heavy is the head and heart that bears the weight of this day.  He goes to sit next to Esgalwen, not leaving her side; he couldn't bear losing another so dear.
