I'm going to put myself on record as loving the character creation system in Numenera.  The modularity makes it interesting to mix and match combinations and see what they produce.  So hit me up with yours!  There's no need to commit to anything in particular until everyone's had a chance to kick options around.

Initial brainstorm idea since this looks like it will happen:

I'm thinking a Dune Universe like Mentat who uses his brain like a computer and has a jihad ludite like reaction to machines that mimic the human brain. Like a cult left over from one of the advanced cultures that saw humans dominated by machines. I'll have to actually look at the book though.

My thinking was not deep
Or broad enough. Hitting the book and coming back to this.

I endorse this approach.

You might consider 'Battles Automatons' for your character's focus, though.

Hey, just dropping a note here to say that I am still regularly checking the board for updates.  If you've had any thoughts about characters - or even parts of the setting or ideas and themes that you particularly want to engage with - do please let me know.  I have some ideas of my own, but I'm more than willing to accommodate requests.

For some reason when i think future scifi the horizons of my brain shut down. I read through the book setting stuff and am still thinking of a character concept.

I'm leaning towards someone coming from the Beyond I think.
My current thought is maybe a character type like Roland from the Dark Tower.

My idea was man out of time.  Cryogenic pod from the 21st century is discovered and he was reanimated.  Reasoning for being around so long was pod and machinery at one point was worshipped as deity, renewable energy source, etc. until someone actually poked around enough to wake him up.  Furturama meets The Time Machine.  Just not sure how to pull it off just yet, need to review chargen more.

While I don't mind that concept (it avoids a lot of 'as you know, Bob' exposition), I'm tempted to weird it up a bit.  I'd suggest ditching the cryogenic part and have him just suddenly there, having subjectively gone from 2019 to a billion years later in the blink of an eye.  How did it happen?  Teleportation/time travel mishap?  Remnant stored memories from the datasphere reinstantiated in a Ninth World body?  Something even stranger?

Your character, obviously, so I'm not going to force anything on you.

I'm headed to Vermont for my annual trip. We usually go before Memorial Day so we are a lil late this year.

Anyway, I plan on drinking in the woods and reflecting on who this character is. Last time I did that Moriuisse appeared and came to life. Hopefully this character wont be as doomed.
