Situation: Grimbeorn and his followers are making a death-or-glory push to breach the Toft-men's stockade.

No longer waylaid, Tate ran to where Anar the Dwarf fought. Strong were the Dwarves of Erebor, but the man was sure he would appreciate the help. Flanking the Toft-man, Tate slashed and bashed with his weapons.

Eclecticon

The Blood-moon warriors, steadfast followers of Vidugalum even in exile, are to a man veterans of many raids and battles, and have been made hard and cruel by the suffering they have experienced and the suffering they have inflicted.  Yet they are still Men, as conscious of their mortality as any other, and they have no desire to die in a hopeless battle.  Between his words outside the stockade and his presence now within it, Grimbeorn has made his intentions clear, and though their future beyond this day may be uncertain, those who cease to fight now will at least live to see the sun set in the west. 

The man in front of Grimbeorn opens his fingers and lets his axe drop to the bloody ground.  Casting his shield behind him, he turns and flees.

As Tate joins the fight at his side, Anar casts caution aside and swings his axe in powerful arcs before him.

Though their numbers are dwindling, still the remaining men at the breach struggle vainly as their Beorning foes grow ever more numerous.  The warrior facing Anar and Tate gives ground, keeping his sheild ready to deflect blows from both the Dwarf and this new, more dangerous threat.

As Anar prepares another strike, the Toft-man's spear whips forward, snake-fast, and strikes a blow that drives the Dwarf to his knees, the wind smashed from his lungs.  Mercifully, his mail shirt, wrought by the craftsmen of the Iron Hills, holds fast, but his vision swims as he struggles back to his feet. 


:ooc: Hathcyn suffers a Wound (looking back, I neglected to say as much earlier, but you all had enough time to heal fully from your earlier exertions, so this is effectively his first one).  Tom, do you want to narrate how it goes down?

The dangers of battle were all around the swirling at the gate. Iron forged weapons swung pell mell by friend and foe while men struggled to make purchase upon one another. The sharpened tips of war thrust between the passes of the axe song so no moment knew peace.

Between the standard and his foes stood only Hathcyn's body. His life's blood the shield for banner and lord protected from his own hurt only by a hand axe.  He swung the axes as he could to keep iron and wood at bay. The rapid swings of his arm kept the many thrusts from him, but from the side an axe came. The blade shone in the light, in its whistle the death song of ash, it swung towards the staff of the banner intent on cutting it down. Turning his body towards the blow he thought only to keep the banner of Grimbeorn aloft. The blade missed the banner, but found its head thrust into the flesh of Hathcyn as leather gave way to iron. 

"Ahh," he cried.

"The iron cuts steps upon me once more, the stairway to my death hall grows. Oh, the hard war tokens mare me yet again, but still stands the banner of the bear!"
