Situation: Esgalwen and Tate's attempted ambush has gone disastrously, and combat is now joined in earnest.

Combat Advantage dice:
• Esgalwen 0
• Tate 2/2

Situation Modifiers:
• The Toft-men have the initiative, as three quarters of the company have effectively been counter-ambushed

Physical Modifiers (complications):
• combat in the reeds and mud is hampered - all Parry scores are reduced by two against enemies outside the riverbank

At the death of the hound, one of the spearmen gives a cry of rage and moves to strike at Tate as the bard struggles to find solid footing.  Above the pair, the archer nocks another shaft.

The beast wounded by Esgalwen, meanwhile, yelps once and again as it limps out of reach of her sword, its tail between its legs and its flank bleeding freely.  Its companion moves in with a savage attack to buy time for it to move away.

The young Beorning presses his advantage, parrying a strong thrust from his foe and then cutting the man's throat with a slash as quick and powerful as a thunderbolt.  An arrow severs the tip of a reed next to Tate as the spearman closes in, feinting and probing but finding no opening in the Lake-Man's defence.

On the hillside, the hale hound halts just out of reach of Nimronyn, wary now of the Ranger's sword.

I considered a Second Wind for Tate to try and eliminate the weariness, but his Athletics is only 2d - he has better odds of attacking while Weary.

:ooc: Well this round is a bust as both attacks miss.

In the next round, the hound can/will attempt a Called Shot against Esgalwen due to her :~~: result

Esgalwen began to circle her prey, keeping it in front of her and the wounded hound just behind it. The dog snarled and snapped, it's body tensed to dodge and spring. Nimronyn made a quick jab towards the animal, which quickly snapped and moved out of its way.

Tate saw the same luck, as he tiredly splashed from the water and swung wildly to no effect.
