Situation: The Company has been split with Nain and Dirnhael down in the deeps. At this time the remaining members are threatened by 9 spiders...

Physical Modifiers: Although the lantern gives off some light, I am going to penalize any in the tunnels with a Dim Lighting penalty of +2 to TN's

Spiders are a Defence TN 11 - the dim light (and small size) will make them TN 13; Size will reduce the Greater spider back to 11

Character Status: Daelhun is Winded -1, Durgil is Winded -1, Edrahil is Injured -3 and Winded -1. Be sure and check the status page for your available COURAGE - in case you need any.

Spider 1 and 3 have 2 HITS each, -5 penalty

Initiative:

Lesser G. Spider (on Company) - 14
Nain - 11
Fengel - 9
Dirnhael - 9
Lunduf - 9
Durgil - 9
Edrahil - 8
Daelhun - 8
Greater G. Spider (on Nain) - 7

[Nain's post from the previous Thread:]

Feeling himself turning round and round and the webbing wrapping itself around him Nain quickly decides that freedom might be the better part of valor at the moment.  Using everything in he has he grabs on to the mandibles and tries to push them apart.

Nain kicked and pushed at the segmented underside of the giant spider as it tried to weave a web around him. The dwarf landed a lucky kick into its abdomen causing it to drop him and he landed on the floor below, his arms and legs held by strands of web like a marionette. Nain quickly stood and swung his axe but the spider knocked the attack away.

***

Not far away, Dirnhael approached in the darkness trying to get to the dwarf to extend him some help. Little did he know, but he too was being watched!

Outside the spiders attacked...

Dirnhael lowers Anduring to his waist, and sprints towards the vile beast. Unaware of it's approach, the spider doesn't realize what's upon him until the sickening crunch of Anduring slicing through carapace is heard.
The blade was made to cut dragon-scale, and the spider's hind is no match as Dirnhael plows into the creature with full force.

Hey Shawn, just so you know... on an Extraordinary Success I allow automatic Maximum damage. Also, you need to include your Strength bonus of +1 to your damage so you actually did:

Auto 12+5+2+1=20 x 1.5 for Charge or 30... you just dropped the Giant Spider to Incapacitated! Very nice!  :D

***

At the top of the pit, Fengel wrestled with a spider as it clung onto him. The things long eight legs wrapped around his torso and its fangs scraped against his chain armour. Poison seeped from the dagger-like mandibles causing the Eothraim to blanche. Around him, his comrades faced similar situations although two of the creatures lay dead on the ground, their legs balled up towards their bodies.

Underground, Dirnhael saw the light of Nain's lantern and how the spider held onto the ceiling, at the same time trying to weave a web around the dwarf. The creature was unaware of the Dunadan's presence as he ran in at full tilt. His sword struck the large spider's bloated abdomen and cut deep and long. Dirnhael felt the weight of the arachnid pull him down as it fell from the ceiling. It flopped around oozing its life fluids onto the cave floor all the while trying to seperate itself from the dwarf and this dangerous new threat.

Dirnhael and Nain felt it more than anything - a feeling of pure hatred and anger seemed to course through the passageway as they stood there watching the large spider die. Then they felt as if something was moving, moving very fast, with a malignant hatred driving it. Something was coming up from deeper below!

Dirnhael looked at Nain as the dwarf cut himself from the sticky strands and maneuvered into a position to finish the dying spider off. What the two had not see was another shadow that moved behind the Dunadan as he had ran into the passage to aid the dwarf. The shadows eyes glowed pale and its fangs moved up and down getting its dreadful poison flowing. Oh how it hated the two-legs! It would love draining the juices from their bodies once it had them weaved! It wanted to take them first because now 'she' was coming... it felt her. But she wouldn't drink them of their sweet juices, she would leave them as she always did, and these two would serve better as a meal!

The dark shape moved in while its prey watched its dying kin...

Dirnhael grimly nods to his surprised companion as he hands Nain his axe.
"I told you I wouldn't steal anything."
The dwarf looks up and blinks incredulously in response.

He looks toward the exit, unaware of what lie in front of them.
"Now, let's get above ground. Quickly!"

Only then did Dirnhael notice that Anduring's glow had become as bright as the cold, pale moon in winter...

Is mounted by one of the spiders and it begins to bite at his chest having its teetch get caught by rings of dwarven chainmail.  Without bothering to push it off he swings the axe once at his face and and with a second slices its head into two right down the middle, followed with its legs letting go and its body collapsing on the floor.  Looks about the battlefield and decides that the one who could use the most help is the poor elf.  Grips his axe and charges into the closer of the two spiders attacking the elf and brings his axe down swiftly through the spiders body.

Wiseman

The attacks from the massive spiders continued, pushing Daelhun back.  In a suprising move Daelhun let one of the spiders grab him with all 8 of its arms.  Looking the creature in the eyes he switched the an underhand hold on his sword and brought it up over his head stabbing it deeply into the face of the snapping mouth.

Seeing that his razor sharp sword digs into the soft body of the spider and kills it with ease Daelhun swings the weapon once again and slashes at and into the other eight-legged devil attacking him.

OOC: Durgil takes the damage.  Sorry it took so long to respond today.

With the evil creatures so close, Durgil is unable to do much with his bow, so he draws the dwarf-crafted sword and joins in the hacking and slashing, attacking the very injured spider.

"Thank ye for that.  I'd appreciate it if ye'd not mention it to the others.
Just give me a moment and we can be off."

Nain turns to his brother's body and says a quick prayer to Aule to watch over his soul.  He then turns and runs for the hole and freedom from this wretched place.

"Ye'd better be coming along or I'll be returning that favor sooner than I'd like."
