Esgalwen's eye is not as keen and her second shaft merely scores a line across the back of the slaver's leather corselet, leaving him staggered but not otherwise hurt.  With a curse, he turns and rushes toward the Dúnadan, trying to bring himself within range to throw his spear.  As the warrior who faced Grimbeorn gurgles his last breaths, his compatriots fight on, oblivious for the moment to his fate.

Behind the Viglundings, the dusky-skinned boy hesitates, his gaze flitting between his companions and the clashing warriors.

:ooc: So, the Viglunding Slaver will need to pass an Athletics roll to get himself in range this round:

:00: 1d12 : 9, total 9
Rolled 2d6+4 : 5, 4 + 4, total 13

And the remaining Viglundings fight on:

Viglunding reaver (TN 13)
:00: 1d12 : 1, total 1
Rolled 2d6+4 : 2, 6 + 4, total 12

Viglunding warrior (TN 15)

As the rim of Arbogast's shield clangs against his helm under the battering of the Viglunding's axe against it, and Hathcyn is forced to twist painfully away from a strike that might otherwise have brast his hand asunder, the third Viglunding casts his spear with a scream of wrath...

:ooc: Attack roll (TN 18):

:00: 1d12 : 2, total 2
Rolled 3d6 : 1, 2, 1, total 4

:ooc: The slaver's spear misses Esgalwen by an embarrassing distance, but Arbogast loses five endurance and Hathcyn nine (OW!).  The Longspear is now Weary.

Retreating a pace or two, Arbogast raises the Warden's Axe high, its rune-scored blade catching the summer sun.  "The Carrock," he calls, "and the green of the vales!"

:ooc: The Fire-watcher is shifting into Open stance and trying to Rally his friends (TN 14):

:00: 1d12 : 6, total 6
Rolled 4d6 : 3, 1, 6, 3, total 13

:ooc: That's a nice little great success - everyone who's injured recovers three Endurance (meaning Hathcyn is no longer Weary).

Grimbeorn strides forth to Wulfdan, putting axe to neck.  "Surrender and call them off!  You will all die this day where you stand if you do not!  Do you yield?!"

Ignoring the feeble throw of her enemy, Esgalwen draws and looses another arrow.

Something distracts her, for even though the arrow hits the slaver, again it merely scores the leather about his chest. With the man fast approaching, the Dúnadan woman lowers her bow and draws her sword from its scabbard.

:ooc: She moves to :-->: stance

That was a 16 success for 7 :<3: loss

As Hathcyn strikes down the man who stands against him, smiting the man in the jaw with the butt of his spear, Wulfdan raises his sole good arm and cries "I yield!  No further shall we trouble you, an you let us go in peace!"  With great reluctance, the two Viglundings still on their feet let their axes fall to the earth.

The tall stranger, who Grimbeorn can now see is in fact a woman, with short hairs somehow affixed to her jaw as a simple disguise, heaves herself to her feet and, with a desultory kick at the fallen Wulfdan, goes to tend to the bleeding boy.  The old woman likewise struggles upright, presses her palms together and bowing toward Grimbeorn.

:ooc: Nice work, guys.  Matt, make sure you mark off an AP for Grimbeorn's successful intimidation.

"Go in peace? Your companions I bear no ill will against. But you Wulfdan? You are an outlaw among your own folk, a betrayer of kin, and thane, and people. Yet here in the wild we find you free by law to kill and you speak of going in peace befor your lord and the very folk you betrayed? There is not a companion among us and I'll wager not one of these three either that by right should not kill you."
