Post by: Eclecticon on Jun 11, 2021, 02:43 PM
Situation: The Fellowship has followed the servants of the Shadow to their lair beneath Lake-Town.

Combat Advantage dice:

• Esgalwen 2/2
• Hathcyn 0/0
• Laeral 0/2

Situation Modifiers:
• The unseen foes have the initiative.

Physical Modifiers (complications):
• Footing is treacherous.  Any character struck with a Great or Extraordinary success must make an Athletics roll (at TN 5 + Endurance lost) or fall.  Characters on the raft receive a +4 bonus to their roll.  Characters can also use a called shot (TOR p 178) to perform a Pummelling Attack (Adventurer's Companion, p 111) to automatically knock their opponent into the water.

Undaunted by the fate of their comrade, the remaining bowmen continue to shoot.  On the planks, the knifeman grabs Arbogast's shield in his free hand, trying to wrench the Woodman from the path.

:ooc: The bowmen shoot at Arbogast and Esgalwen:

The arrows go wide, the bowmen hampered as much as the companions by the dim light and confusion of battle.  Nor can the knifeman unbalance the Fire-watcher enough to hinder him.

:ooc: Let's see whether you guys can start to turn things around this round...

:ooc: i am going to see what Arbogast does first before I take my move. It will be to attack if he needs it or to try and spot another archer.

Unable to see where the arrows came from, Esgalwen could see the danger in front of her friend. Arbogast held the line for them and his danger was great, as the thin plank only allowed Hathcyn to do so much. Perhaps she could even those odds.

She drew back another shot and aimed at the knifeman harassing her friend.

:ooc: I will use an Advantage dice at need. Here is her attack.

Laeral curses her ill luck and searches the darkness with bow drawn for the source of the other two arrows.

:ooc: if you want to move things along Hathcyn attacks the knife guy or searches with the lantern as needed. Both die rolls are the same so here it is for either action.

As the man in front of them falls, Hathcyn and Arbogast advance steadily, spear lunging forward over shield.  As the knifeman twists and grasps Hathcyn's spear before it can be withdrawn, Arbogast sees a chance and swings his axe low, aiming to hook the man's legs...

:ooc: Arbogast will try for a called shot:

To his shock, the Fire-watcher finds that his strike is not true, and instead of toppling the man from the plank path, the Warden's Axe shears through tendon and bone to leave the planks slick with blood and a single foot sitting obscenely still as its erstwhile owner crashes into the water below.

Ahead, Hathcyn spies a place where the planks broaden out into a rough platform.
