:ooc: He will attempt to Enhearten the companions, hopefully allowing them to ignore their weariness.

With naught but savage will to survive, Beal stands quickly and strikes out at a goblin near at hand - its attention focused on a rider that had galloped onto the isle.

Shouts and cries filled the air along with the grunting sounds of the goblins dying at the tip of sword and spear, or arrow that now dropped around them. The Lake-man did not know if he could survive, but his hopes were lifted when his fellow prisoner also stood in defiance.

Not far from where they were, Esgalwen attacked again to open the path for her men to get to her friends.

Not sure the TN, but I have the mass of horses pushing forward and arrows dropping on their exposed flanks and rear lines.

:ooc: Hold off on your Battle roll for the moment, Doug (and take your Hope point back).  You won't need to roll until there's a break in the combat and Esgalwen can look around to see how her followers are doing.

New fury chasing old hurts from his body, Grimbeorn draws himself up and answers Kurgak bellow for bellow.  The marsh water shakes and the air resounds as if two bulls of the ancient kine, not seen upon the face of Middle-Earth in two ages of the world had returned to do battle.

:ooc: Grimbeorn had faced enough of these goblins' like to know that they are a craven sort, especially under the light of the sun.  He will attempt to intimidate them.

The goblins quake before the son of Beorn, for though he had been brought low they have not forgotten the ease with which he smote down he who was the greatest and most terrible among them before the coming of the orcs of Mordor.  Yelping, they give way.  Several of them turn and take flight, dropping their spears in the mud in their terror.

:ooc:  Grimbeorn's foe is heading for the dubious safety of the forest,as is one other.  I'll let the Random Number Gods determine which one that is, counting down the line alphabetically from A to L/one to four:

Laeral, still enraged by the events of earlier, takes up a spear and enters the battle.

-ooc- Laeral is in defensive stance

:ooc: Nice move.  With spear in hand, Laeral can use her broad Spears skill, rather than Dagger, to attack.  The goblin spears are in the orcish mode - broad-headed and heavy, used mainly for one-handed thrusting but also capable of being swung as a slashing weapon in a pinch.  Their profile is Damage 5, Edge 10, Injury 12

Hathcyn's weariness was shed from his body and he became a rabid beast cornered in its den. The sharp piece of flint he had grabbed was flung idly from his hand at one of the goblins and he grabbed the fallen spear. The light shone in his eyes and a fey mood was upon him. The crude instrument, which had been used to prod and poke the captives was now turned upon its masters. The Beorning set upon them with abandon mindless and without thought to his own life or limb. He would not be taken so easily again.

"CARROCK! CARROCK!" He yelled.

Even the Bardings quailed before his wrath and shrunk back from where he fought.

Awe to intimidate. Open Stance.

Naught but fury shone in the elf's eyes. Focusing in on the nearest prey, a goblin, Laeral begins her pursuit. With longer legs and anger to burn the maiden is upon her quarry in an instant. A flash of metal cuts through the air as the spear that Laeral carries is swung at the repellent creature in a fluid diagonal arc.

As the mud-spattered and footsore companions break loose from their captors, Kurgak staggers back from Esgalwen's blow.  For a heartbeat, he regards the deep cut across the back of his dark-skinned arm almost curiously, as if intrigued by something novel.  But then he leaps forward, snake-fast and howling like a storm wind.

The heavy, curved sword lashes out, but Esgalwen moves like swift river water and it cleaves naught but the first tendrils of marsh-fog.

Along the islets, the lines of goblins and Men dissolve into a chaos of noise, steel and blood.  The lone goblin still to brandish its spear at the companions lunges toward Arbogast as Laeral catches its fellow before it can escape her wrath.  Grimbeorn and Hathcyn espy the tumbled heap of the goblins' hoard at the same instant, and by their eyes alone share an understanding.  That which was soon to be their burden once more is now left unguarded...

Black murder in his eyes, Arbogast dodges a clumsy spear-thrust and lunges toward the goblin before him.  Too late does he realise that the thrust was a feint, and that the foe before him is as cunning as he.  The goblin whips the butt of its spear around, and the crack as it connects with the Woodman's skull is clearly audible.  Arbogast staggers and falls, red blood streaming from his face to mix with the greyish mud beneath the darkening sky.
