I had wondered how a forest could ruin a well-laid stone road, muses Anar, before I encountered these damnable stakes!  Frustrated and already hurt by the spears that continue to jab at him, he turns his axe once more on a join he thinks is ready to give way...

:ooc: I'll continue NPC-ing Anar until we get word about Mike.  Rolling Craft:

... and with a grunt of effort, he splits it open, dropping chunks of wood to the ground.  The small gap is quickly widened as the Men to either side of him grab, pull and chop at the cross-beam, and soon a gap wide enough to admit a Dwarf is open before him.

:ooc: Finally!

Defensive Stance for Hathcyn. Do we each have to kill two or cumulatively kill two per PC?

For a moment Hathcyn instinctively thought of leveling the standard as he would his customary spear. He paused however and recalled that the banner must be seen above all, not leveled and thrust at his foe. The banner of the bear was the symbol and if it fell perhaps they would too. Hathcyn instead released his horn, letting it fall by its lanyard around his neck and grabbed for the hand axe at his belt. His mind split between keeping the banner aloft for all to see and striking at the arms and weapons that sought him.

:ooc: There isn't a quota.  As long as all the enemies are defeated, you'll beat the hazard.

Grimbeorn wades into the fray, axe swinging and shield bashing.

Grimbeorn's shield batters one man back while his axe smashes a second to the ground, forcing him to drop his spear to catch himself, lest he be laid prone.  To do so before the son of Beorn, full in his wrath, would be certain death.

:ooc: That's going to be a hit no matter what, but which stance are you in?  Sounds from your description like it might be Forward?

Doug, wanna be Tate for a bit?

The press of people against him made Tate worried. The Beornings were pushing on the gate and there was only so much room, and thus a crowd was forming. The minstrel had no desire to crushed under foot, or to be pierced by a random shaft fired into the fray.

Moving agilely between the attackers, he came to the palisade fence and began to climb it and get clear. Others watching him, followed suit.

:ooc: Going Athletics with Tate, even though both skills are the same in training.

:ooc: I believe it prudent to get him into a position to attack, and so I will use a :vv:. If Ayrn decides differently, then you can retcon the results here. I cannot update his sheet, as I do not have LM permissions.

It was precarious, the stakes of wood having been sharpened to dangerous points, but Tate finally leapt down to the ground within the palisade. He quickly drew forth his sword as Toft-men were even now rushing his position. Fortunately for Tate, the Beornings were also having the same luck getting over the wall and their numbers were swelling.

Battle is joined in earnest as the Toft-men press hard, their resolve renewed now that the companions are on the point of breaching the fortifications.  From somewhere to the right comes the cry "FORTH BEORNIGAS!"  But there is no time to sound a response before steel meets steel.

The force when two spears find their way past his shield and into his ribs takes Grimbeorn's breath away but the layers of leather and fur hold fast, and though his bruises will be impressive, they will heal quickly.  The men who struck him, having failed to slay him, now look deeply uncertain.

Nearby, Anar bellows like a wounded bull as Tate vaults the stockade, followed by a slow but steady stream of Beorning warriors.
