Putting his foot on the creature's carcass for leverage, Grimbeorn yanked the axe free, moving to proceed to do likewise to the next orc in line.

Deflecting the orc's slash with his shield produces a satisfying clang as orc-steel meets the boss.  Arbogast readies a return blow.

Drawing another arrow from his quiver with a smooth, practiced motion, Bandy draws the the bow to his cheek. Pausing, he takes grim pleasure his comrades dispatch the orcs one by one. Lining up an orc soldier with an upraised blade, he sends the shaft flying.

Esgalwen ignored the verbal threat of the foul orc, her ears filled only with the deafening beat of her own heart pumping fury through her veins.

The companions were hotly engaged in the battle with the Orcs. Until this moment the party, and the Orcs, were oblivious to anything else around them except for the battle and the foe to their front fighting out a life or death struggle.

Orophin was the first to notice, and then the other members of the group slowly came to the awareness of the fact that Radagast was chanting. A light seemed to be coming from the rear of the party centered on his staff. As each stole a glance when they could the situation slowly revealed itself.

As the blood of both Orc and Free Folk fell to the ground the forest floor itself seemed to take note of it. The dark lichen covered trees seemed to try and bend their boughs in order to wash their leaves and branches in it. The ground, instead of absorbing the ichor as they would have assumed, seemed to feed the mire of the forest into it. The damp spots growing and becoming more foul as more life blood was added to it.

As the trees and the surrounding flora tried to drink their fill of the spilled blood only Radagast was keeping them at bay. The light that seemed to shine from his staff was no brighter than a candle, but it served to push the forest back from friend and foe alike. Where he thrust his staff the trees and branches recoiled, insects that began to spill from the ground scurried away instead of coating themselves in the ichor of battle. Some dark force, oblivious of whose blood was shed, ignorant of the winner or the loser, was drawing power from the violence that was occurring in the woods. Only the soft words and concentration from the Brown Mage kept this force from becoming an active participant in the struggle.

:ooc: Rorin will change his stance to Open at the beginning of this round.

After effortlessly crushing the first orcish leader, Rorin brought his hammer to bear on the the second. He knew the will of these creatures could be broken by slaying their leaders.

:ooc: It doesn't seem like this Elf can hit the side of a damn barn! He'll use a Hope to make it a success. The results for everyone's rolls are also listed:

Orophin
Hits goblin archer 3 with a 19 success for 5 Endurance loss

Grimbeorn
Hits orc soldier 3 with a 12 success for 9 Endurance loss

Arbogast
Hits orc soldier 1 with a 22 great success for 7 Endurance loss - DEAD

Bandy
Hits goblin archer 2 with a 15 success for 5 Endurance loss - DEAD

Esgalwen
Hits Slurg with a 16 success for 7 Endurance loss

Rorin
Hits Slurg with a 24 great success for 14 Endurance loss - DEAD

Arbogast and Bandy feel the exhilaration of their first kills of orcs. The nightmare of the Shadow spawn have threatened so many for so long that the bloodlust was not sated with these two. The Hobbit drew another arrow and looked for a new target, while Wood-man shifted his position to find another of the vile orcs.

Not far from him, Esgalwen slashed the Uruk Hai who reeled back. Slurg tried to regain his stance but was immediately smashed under the hammer of Rorin. The large, black orc fell to the ground and did not stir.

With both of their leaders dead, the remaining orcs, craven as they were, began to disengage and run. Bandy and Orophin sent arrows speeding after them...

The fire in Arbogast's veins wars with the desire to remain and ensure that the other members of the fellowship came through the fight unharmed.  I don't believe any slipped past me, he thinks, yet in the gloom and confusion, who could be sure?

Still, the risk is too great if any survivor were to report their presence to whatever foulness may hold sway over the southern wood - over Dol Guldur.  As the surviving orcs turn to flee, Arbogast gives chase.

:ooc: I think Grimbeorn and the others probably have Soldier 3 taken care of, so I'm going after the remaining archer.  Athletics roll to catch up to a wounded goblin, if one is needed:
Rolled 1d12 : 8, total 8
Rolled 2d6 : 6, 4, total 10

 :ooc:  ;D

I will give you guys the kill for the last two, Paul. No real sense in taking more time to roll it out. They are craven and so would run, but your archers would bag them before they got too far.
