Title: Mellwayn - round 1

Situation: The corpse of Mellawyn springs to action, attacking those that have disturbed her realm.

ALL Modifiers (situational, physical, weariness, wound conditions):

Gandalf (+4) - 16
Celdrahil (+6) - 15

The undead Mellawyn moves like a cat, animating from the attack of Celdrahil's sword. The sword had driven into the soft flesh at the throat, above the collarbone, but seemed to do little more than pierce the old flesh. The unnatural light that glowed on her breast was not affected and now pulsed faster.

Hearing the commotion behind him, Gandalf turns with a start, "Wha...?"

The wizard saw that Celdrahil was in close proximity to the now animated form of Mellawyn, the Dúnadan with sword in hand. From the breast of the undead creature, the shard's glow did not grow brighter, but it reached out to the dead bodies that lay about and enveloped them. Gandalf knew what trouble that would soon be stirred. He hoisted his staff and...

if successful, must make an opposed Strength test between Mellawyn and Gandalf (Strength 25 (+9) provided by spell)
Mellawyn 2d6+3 : 1, 2 + 3, total 6

Gandalf 2d6+9 : 5, 3 + 9, total 17


if successful, Gandalf flings Mellawyn away from Celdrahil and slams her into the wall

:ooc: Due to Gandalf's Extraordinary Success on his Strength test, he is awarded additional +2d6 damage (house rule)

Total 17 damage, which Mellawyn suffers 1/2 (Undead Stamina), or 9 damage

[EDIT] Mellawyn once animated causes continuous Terror to those who view her. Each PC must overcome this fear or be affected:

Mellawyn's Terror affect:
:00: TN -- Intimidate +7, Specialty +2 = +9 divided by 2
Roll(2d6)+5: 4,6,+5 Total:15

SO - Gandalf would need to overcome fear of TN 15
:00: TN 15 Willpower +8, Strong-willed +2, Celdrahil's bonus +2
Roll(2d6)+14: 4,2,+14 Total:20 SUCCESS

So Gandalf's actions went without hindrance...

NOW... I think Mellwayn will try to counter-spell Gandalf. If successful, Gandalf's first action will be negated along with the damage.

Mellawyn casts counter Wizard's Fist (1 action)
:00: TN 12 Willpower +5
Roll(2d6)+5: 4,3,+5 Total:12 SUCCESS

With her success, both Gandalf and Mellawyn now oppose each other to see whose spell wins:
Opposed Bearing test:
Gandalf Bearing - Roll(2d6)+5: 5,3,+5 Total:13
Mellwayn Bearing - Roll(2d6)+2: 5,5,+2 Total:12

#:S Gandalf's actions stays as stated above... now I have to perform his second action!  ':}

Mellawyn lifted from her seat and was thrust back, slamming into the wall with a heavy thud. Gandalf pulled forward with his staff and then shoved once more at the air, the whole time the body of the undead flailing and dancing in the air only to slam again into the wall.




Gandalf casts again
Action 2 - cast spell
:00: TN 12 Willpower +8, Strong-willed +2, Wizard's Heart +2, Prior casting -3
Rolled 2d6+9 : 3, 5 + 9, total 17


if successful, must make an opposed Strength test between Mellawyn and Gandalf (Strength 25 (+9) provided by spell)
Mellawyn 2d6+3 : 1, 3 + 3, total 7

Gandalf 2d6+9 : 4, 1 + 9, total 14


damage if successful 1d6+9 : 5 + 9, total 14


Mellawyn will attemtpt the counter-spell again

Durgil sees the dark energy flooding the room, inhabiting the bodies strewn about.  He hastily draws his swords knowing that this is not bow-work, and positions himself ready for the attack to come.  "Backs to another, protect each other!"

Celdrahil was undetered by the initial set back. His trust in Gondorian Steel and the blood of his line was unwavering. He made another attack against the creature. His sword making two quick thrusts at the undead abomination. He maintained the presence of mind to prepare for a parry as well should he need to.

Celdrahil rends Mellawyn's decayed flesh with terrible wounds that would kill a living man. The undead creature screams and spits at the man, her mouth full of shards of jagged teeth.

Durgil is correct in his preparation - the unholy light closes around four decyed bodies of men and orcs and the companions look on in fear as they begin to move.




:ooc: A couple things:

I needed Celdrahil's Willpower to resist fear TN 15 roll so here it is:
Roll(2d6)+3: 4,3,+3  Total:10 Failure (or Complete Success for Mellawyn which causes Celdrahil to suffer -2 to all tests)

Second, Tom, damage dice do not cascade, just the actual skill checks.

Lastly, Mellawyn suffers the following:

(18/2) + (22/2) = 20

:ooc: You deserve many bonuses, as I didn't even have her defend, but you guys are beatin' on her like a pinata at a kid's birthday party and only two of you have gone. I hope she survives round fuckin' one to even offer a challenge.

So, I am just going to leave it with the 20 damage done.  ;)

Dirnhael freed the Elvish blade Vorándur, its steel ringing through the hall as it left its scabbard.
Flipping his shield from his back onto his hand, he prepared for battle, holding his position between Gandalf and Edrahil -- the magic-users would be their best protection here, and Dirnhael would ensure their protection.

The two nobles readied themselves as around them the rotted corpses began to stir. Outside the keep, in the gathering darkness, a long mournful cry began to sound as if a thousand voices cried their misery. Fengel drew Cerduil and felt a gripping panick rise in him that he fought to quell. Perhaps it was that he saw the effects of Morgoth on one of his kin, but Edrahil was utterly unmanned.




:ooc: Okay, Nolmir is not coming back and so I have removed Madoc from our story. Matt, I need to know if you still want to run Ginnar. Let me know.
