I have retained all of the above info as part of this post for the purpose of keeping an idea of where everything is at this point in the game.

Farok's lightsaber flashed around and sliced the Bando Gora warrior just under his chin. The creature's head fell from its body still inside its dark cowl and skull mask. The headless body slumped to the ground and began to smoke with a terrible smell. In seconds the darkside energy was gone and only a husk of what was once a man, or some other species of the galaxy, remained.

The companions stood about waiting for some new sign of movement or threat, but none came.

"KEECHAW KEECHAW!" Kaida jumped at the sudden cry from above her that broke the new silence of the ravine. She jerked her blaster up only to see a small monkey-like creature hanging from a branch and scolding her as if she were the one who had caused all of the commotion. It then used a long tail to grab the branch above it and it pulled itself back into the foliage. She lowered her gun with a sigh and looked back down at Logar's dead form. Caden, Brim and Farok all moved closer to see their fallen companion.

Across the ravine, Fett raised his carbine to his shoulder and looked at the husks of dead Bando Gora. He remembered his father's journals speaking of the way they died, but it was not what he expected. He looked to BIT and then over the chasm at the three remaining companions. The bounty hunter turned his attention to the large, square hole in the building roof that led down via a set of stairs. He touched BIT's arm and then gestured towards the entrance, "Well that is where they sprang up at us from... think there are more down there?"

"For the moment, I don't care," said BIT, slumping to the ground exhausted and hurt.  Hoisting his weapon to cover the portal, "Well not a whole lot."  Clicking his comm, "Secure.  I need a medic though."

Fett said nothing in response. He merely stood over the building access in the eerie silent fashion for which he was becoming notorious.

On the opposite side of the ravine, Kaida heard BIT's request for aid but her mind was on other things at the moment. Brim could see that she did not wish to be bothered. He deactivated his lightsaber, "I will go see to him." The Rodian felt a pang of guilt as he took two of the three medpacs that were hanging off of Logar's armor. "Maybe Fett needs help, too."

Brim mounted the two sets of stairs that led up the structure on their side of the chasm and stepped cautiously out onto the bridge. Once there, he saw that it was secured well and that the Dugs who built it had used durasteel cables - it eased his concerns and he crossed over. Both BIT and Fett were handed a medpac, "I can help you with these or maybe you're better at it." Fett nodded and Brim decide that meant appreciation and then knelt down by the entrance. It was lit within from both the daylight and internal lamps.

Kaida relaxed her hold on her dead friend. Her mind began to wonder now what they should do with him. They could not just leave him to be consumed by the jungles fauna. Both Caden and Farok now stood over her and Kaida noticed that the old jedi needed attention. She grabbed Logar's last medpac and said, "Come here."

:ooc: Matt, besides Kaida, you actually have the best Treat Injury score so I am going to have you do the tests. I will perform them all for you guys here just so that there is no delays in the game's flow, but feel free to dialogue/narrate the actions in your posts.

I am going to use 5 medpacs on the team to get everyone healed up. I know the rules state that only one Treat Injury can be performed on a wound, but you guys have taken a beating and I truly can't tell which wound hasn't been worked on since you landed.  ;)

Here is the gear on Logar that you guys may take as you please:

Modified clone trooper armor (+6 armor, +2 Fortitude, helmet package)
Blaster rifle
DH-23 "Outback" blaster pistol
Heavy blaster pistol
8 frag grenades on bandolier
3 ion grenades on bandolier
vibrobayonet with 3 spare energy cells
260 credits, field kit (2 condensing canteens, sunshield roll, 7 day food supply, 24 filters, 12 atmospher canisters, 2 glow rods, 2 breath masks, all-temperature cloak), datapad, long-range comlink, syntherope

Kaida treats Farok and herself
:00: DC 15 Treat Injury +14
Kaida 1d20+14 : 4 + 14, total 18

Farok 1d20+14 : 7 + 14, total 21

BIT treats Fett, Brim and himself

:ooc: Well that SUCKS on BIT's rolls. I know this maybe a cheat, but after looking in the book I saw that Treat Injury tests can Take 10 when you guys are not rushed. So, I am going to Take 10 for each test instead of the dice rolls (unless the dice roll was better)

In this downtime, I am removing the Conditions on Brim and Farok as they will have the opportunity to rest.

Nothing more came up from the structure entrance that Fett and BIT guarded and the team were able to get some quality down time. They all crossed over the bridge and injuries were treated, food and drink were consumed and rest was taken. Only the roar of the chasm river and falls filled the air. If it had not been for the current circumstance, the area could be considered quite serene, but then Kaida's eyes fell on Logar's body still lying on the ground on the opposite side. They needed to tend to him and then they needed to move.

Boba Fett looked to where Kaida stared and the bounty hunter seemed to read her mind, "Give your friend to the river. It is not the most deserving of burials for a soldier, but its better than letting anything eat him. Logar deserves that at least." To everyone there, the respect that Fett held for Logar'Dan was perceived.

Brim spoke out, "Perhaps a pyre, instead?"

Fett answered, "That will take time to gather the resources and it will also be a nice signal."

"Who doesn't already know we are here?" retorted the Rodian. Fett's mask stared at Brim and then in his cold tone, "Your man... you decide."

The bounty hunter stood up and couched his weapon in his arms then moved to entrance of the structure. He loomed over it, staring down within.

"We can roll him in his cloak and fill it with rock so that he sinks. The current will push him out, but it will keep him from washing up somewhere down stream. Let us be about it. Our enemies are on their own turf and will be preparing to welcome us. Let's not give them to much more time to prepare."

BIT recalled his time in the service of the Old Republic and the comraderie that came with it.  This wasn't his unit and the brotherhood he was a part of didn't take with this deliberation and indecision with the fallen.  None were left behind unless it jeopardized the mission and they moved on.  He remained separate from the others and chomped at the bit to move on.

Caden nodded. Farok was right; every moment they spent here was an opportunity for their enemies to fortify.
"Besides," he thought, remembering the gruff and reliable but possibly psychopathic soldier, "Logar probably wouldn't have cared much anyway."

Brim looked to Fett, "Will you use your jetpack to fly him down to the river below so we do not have to drop his body from this height? Or might you?" The Rodian's second request was directed to BIT. "I assume that you will need to collect stones down by the riverside, otherwise he will be too hea..."

KA-BOOOM!

The thunderous clap of a ship entering the amoshphere at high mach speed stole the words from Brim's throat and caused them all to jerk their heads to the sky. It was a blue-black colored vessel, sleek in its design for combat and transport, but only big enough to carry a small crew. Fett spoke, "Surronian Conquerer... a favorite for fringers. I would suggest whatever you are going to do, do it now because I don't believe we will have much more time before our quarry is before us."

To support the bounty hunter's thoughts both Farok and Brim felt a sudden cold chill from the Force. The Rodian spoke nervously, "He is here... I guess the communication worked."

The ship soared out of their view, over the mountain above, and its engines echoed in the valley for a time after. The fact that they did not disappear shortly after told them all that the craft had made a landing somewhere not far away.

Farok worked quickly. He took the pikes that their opponents had been using and laid them next to their fallen comrade. Then using his lightsaber he made several quick cuts into the masonry of the bunkers. He motioned for Brim to lay the cuttings beside their fallen comrade as well. The one armed man wrapped Logar up in his cloak in the style of the desert people of the great wastes.

"Say what you will say Princess, we have no more time. The falls will do the rest for us."

BIT gathers himself.  Feeling better after the application of the medpac, he stands and makes ready for the final jaunt into this den of iniquity.  He checks the power levels on his pistol and holsters it and does the same with his rifle but keeping it at hand.

Kaida couldn't say much but she nodded to Farok. Anger and regret had choked off the words. She only got out a few words as she knelt by his still form. "He, as Britton, was a good man. A true soldier to the end, and he gave his life for a cause he believed in. A cause we must all believe in if we are to continue our present course. The cause of freedom." She knew it wasn't entirely true, and felt a little guilty saying it but she said with passion nonetheless. This side mission had little to do with ridding the galaxy of the iron fist that was beginning to squeeze the life and liberty out of individual and planetary system alike. It was merely a stepping stone. She swallowed hard. How many more stepping stones and lives would be lost before real progress would be made. She bowed her head. "May you find peace Logar." She gently closed his eyes and put his helmet back on.

"Split up the weapons and gear. We may very well need them, and he won't need them where he's going. But let him keep Katherine. Then give him to the river."

:ooc: If no one else speaks for them Kaida will take the field kit, 2 frags, 2 ion, and attach Logar's vibrobayonet to her own carbine.

She stood as preparations were made to dispose of his body. "So he's here?" she looked at Brim and Farok. At Brim's affirmative nod, her face turned business-like and she surveyed the lay of the land, noting possible ambush points. A dark jedi and whoever else he may be bringing.

"If he's coming for the hunt then there's no need to proceed further. He'll come to us. What we need to do now is set an ambush that will take him and any friends he's bringing down a notch or two. What do you recommend? I'm thinking maybe creating trip wires on the bridge with frags and at other choke points. Other options?" she looked at each of them.

:ooc: I want to use a tactics roll to give us a benefit in the coming fight--assuming we're going to try ambushing. Here's my roll. You can decide, if any, the benefit.
Tactics 1d20+10 : 2 + 10, total 12

:ooc: It has been a few days and no one has laid claim to anything, so Kaida can have the items chosen. Also, 'Katherine' was the vibrobayonet, so if you want to send her down river with him then I will take that from your list of grabs, Jingo.

Brim will take the 260 credits, datapad, long-range comlink, syntherope and bandolier with remaining 5 frags and 1 ion.

Equipment:
BIT - 285 credits, heavy blaster pistol, sniper blaster rifle w/ scope and bipod (SaV - must be aimed or take a -5 penalty to attack), shadowsuit, Arakyd Hush-About personal jetpack (5 fuel cells), sound sponge, utility belt, 5 power packs, long-range comlink, datapad, all-temperature cloak[/i]
Brim - hold-out blaster with 2 energy cells, lightsaber, 6 frag, medpacs, 260 credits, datapad, long-range comlink, syntherope, 1 ion
Caden -  heavy blaster pistol with 3 spare power packs, hold-out blaster, 2 frag grenades, combat gloves, pocket scrambler, utility belt (3-day food supply, 3 medpac, tool kit, power pack, energy cell, glow rod, comlink, liquid cable dispenser), medical kit, all-temperature cloak, datapad, credit stick
Farok - lightsaber, baton, medpacs, back pack, 2 blaster pistols
Kaida - blaster carbine, heavy blaster pistol, hold-out blaster with spare energy cell, light repeating blaster with 2 spare power packs, 5 frags, 2 ion, shadowsuit and helmet, 2 concealed holsters, all-temperature cloak (unless armor makes it useless), basic datapad, binder cuffs, comlink, liquid cable dispenser, medpacs, mesh tape, pocket scrambler, 5 ration packs, 2 computer spikes (+2), security kit, credit chip, field kit (2 condensing canteens, sunshield roll, 7 day food supply, 24 filters, 12 atmospher canisters, 2 glow rods, 2 breath masks, all-temperature cloak)

They worked quickly. Logar's body was moved back to the precipice that Sebolto's door had exited upon and there he was prepared. He was laid alongside his enemies weapons and was weighted enough so as not to return to the surface and wash up somewhere down along the river. Logar's cloak was then wrapped around him and Kaida said her final words. Once done, Brim, Caden and Farok pulled him to the edge of the cliffside where the long waterfall fell close by - the mists covering them with a fine damp sheen. With nothing more to do or say, Logar was pushed off the outcropping and they watched as his body tumbled down into the water cloud and disappeared in the roar. He was gone.

Kaida waited a moment and then urged her companions to return to where both BIT and Fett had stayed behind to keep guard. Neither man had much connection to the fallen soldier, save to show the respect one soldier offers to another, and so let the trio handle their friend. Boba Fett thought it better that no new enemies get a chance to sneak up on them while they tended the fallen. BIT had agreed.

All five companions were now together once more and they began to move forward again. The only way to go was down into the barracks, or try to climb up the sheer rock that rose behind it. The buliding was wedged up against a mountain, sitting on the small ledge that it did. Fett pointed at the building's entrance, "This is where they attacked from... I say we at least explore what's inside before we think about trying to climb this cliff face."

There were no objections from the others and so with the bounty hunter in the lead, they moved down the stairs into the fortification. They were deposited on the first level of a the two-level structure, which was well-lit by an electric lighting system. The second tier was only a balcony of sorts, ringing the structure and was open to the floor below. Both the first and second floor each had a matching firing slot from the bunker. There was a stairwell down and a door off the one wall that led into the buildings secondary section. The group made their way down to the first floor. Nothing stirred. The chamber was empty. Boba Fett moved to the doorway and entered. Inside he saw a Gran mercenary dead on the floor, its chest punched through by a cruel-looking weapon. "Looks like the Bando Gora didn't appreciate this Gran running from the fight."

Fett stepped over the body and saw another door that was cut into the back of the bunker and into the mountain and a cavern system that was within. There was a durasteel blast door that was retracted and left open - nothing moved beyond it in the shadows. The bounty hunter changed the view of his helmet from infrared to low-light and was pleased to see no changes in the cave tunnel. There was not another ambush set here.

Farok made sure all the items from their fallen comrade were packed up. (doug anything not claimed I'll put in the backpack farok has. )

The bunker was empty and clear, the one armed man had no desire to scale another cliff. Age and his physical handicap were finally starting to wear the force user down.

"Fett, do the caves connect to the compound? This Gran must have been running somewhere. I have no desire to climb."

:ooc: I'll let Logar keep Katherine. If there's any sort of melee weapon (vibroknife, vibrosword) lying around in the compound, Kaida will take it.

Kaida checked her power readings on her HUD in her helmet, and satisfied they'd hold up for a trip in the dark, she switched to low light and infrared and scanned a bit as well. "Let's take a brief look. If this isn't where we want to go, no need to go spelunking."

:ooc:
For Doug: I can't remember what we were originally trying to accomplish? Wasn't it blow a hole in whatever they were processing / manufacturing in order to lure the Dark Jedi out of hiding? Did we do that?

For the Team: But if he's already on planet and coming to us, is there need to poke our heads around here? Or would it make more sense wait for him--and prepare for him?

Title: Re: Death Stick production
Post by: tomcat on Jun 08, 2012, 09:10 PM
:ooc: The goal was to make an attack on the Dug death stick facility - not so much to put it out of commission but to draw the Bando Gora and the Shade out of hiding. The communication that you guys sent from the Guard tower of your attack and intentions worked just as well, so now you need only enter the facility if you want.

The dark jedi is now on the planet, but where is yet to be seen.

"Fett, do the caves connect to the compound? This Gran must have been running somewhere. I have no desire to climb."

Boba Fett looked to Farok and answered, "My journals speak of Jango Fett going underground for a distance. I believe this is what he spoke of and at the far end should be skiff landing platform. The skiff provides transport over a canyon... probably an extension of the one behind us. Anyway, opposite side of the canyon there is the facility. With any luck, we won't have to go that far." The bounty hunter heard Kaida and then moved into the cavern passage.

The cave ran relatively level with the bunker that they just left and went due north deep into the mountain. The passage was at least two meters wide and three high at its lowest. A pitch up could be felt in the progress and they started to climb. Based on the size of the mountain that they saw before entering, the company figured it was at least a kilometer to cover. Fett led the way with BIT right behind him and then Kaida. Following on came Caden, Farok and Brim.

Fifteen minutes into their passage, they came into a larger chamber that was used for storage - crates were stacked along the east wall. The northly direction came to a lift ramp that was up against a stone wall. It would elevate any passenger a good three meters to a new level where a blast door blocked the way.

Brim spoke in the quiet cavern passage and his whisper seemed to carry, "Perhaps this chamber would be a good place to rest. We are all wounded. We all suffer from our losses today, and we have been battling since this morning. If the dark jedi is here, surely there is nothing we can do until we get to him."

The idea of confronting the Force-user suddenly chilled Brim. He had seen him kill Dan Qinos on Bakura. The Rodian had heard only legend of such evil and he never thought that he would ever face such a being. He carried a lightsaber and felt the Force stirring within himself but knew he was still a novice at these arts... a padawan? The thoughts made him suddenly wish to drain his bladder.

"What say you, do we take some time to rest and prepare?"

Fett answered, "Initiative is ours. We can meet him on our terms if we keep pushing on. Otherwise he will have the chance to prepare this engagement on his terms."

"On his terms?" The Rodian was incredulous, "What advantage do we have now? We could be walking into the next barricade of the Dug king and his evil allies! If we rest and heal, we will be better off."

Brim looked to the others to see if any were on his side.

Farok looked around the cavern, it was cool and damp. On Tatooine he had been in places like this in the deep desert. This had the feel of the places where the deep desert peoples would dwell. He imagined that there were places like this on Ryloth as well. Perhaps Masaaraq came from a place like this. He thought of Adana safe on the ship and wondered what she was thinking about this latest adventure. Surely the driod had returned by now and related all that had happened. Was she worried about him? Would his death be a release to her? No, he knew that regardless of how she acted she was free and thought of herself as such. Even though she never left him all the times he ordered her to go and then she had blindly followed him on this insane quest without a comment. She simply packed her things and prepared his things as well. Things he would not have even bothered to pack himself. Cigars for one. Farok would have taken what he had on hand, not thought to pack several boxes for him as she had. The shuffle of feet brought him back to the moment.

"No we cannot wait here Brim. The Bounty Hunter is right, weak as we are the initiative is more important. They could simply seal us in here and let time do their work for them. No, we must keep going and not allow them time to plan a complex trap for us."

The one time jedi tossed aside the soggy stub he had been gnawing on. Reaching to his side he took another swallow from his flask and fished out a new cigar. He took the time to cut it properly, slowly lit it, and began to draw upon it. He cocked his head back deep in reflection and then spoke. His voice, when it came, echoed in the hall.

"One who serves, I am
Calmly I make my way for
the great force for light

Virtue in my deed,
Cause an unpayable debt
I must try and pay

Fealty, honour,
One bright blade that guards my way
Always by my side

Colours swirl the air,
the time for trial now at hand
I stand with my sword

The enemy comes
Bravely with honour I die
Like an ancient star"

"Let us run this foul creature into a hole and destroy it."

Kaida nodded in agreement and looked at the others, determination written across her face. "We do need rest, Brim. But more than that, we need to strike this blow hard and fast. For Britton. For Logar. We must move quickly before this dark jedi knows what he's up against. With each passing moment, we lose what mobility and initiative we had." She sighed and wondered if they truly had any left. But better to keep moving than to be trapped here. She placed an arm on his shoulder, praying they would all see this through without any more losses. She was no longer certain. She forced a smile "Let's go hunt the hunter."

"There will be time to rest once this is over, one way or another," growled BIT, itching to move on.

Caden agreed. "I've had it with this place, and I've got no plans on letting anyone else run us into another trap."
He thought of the dark Force-user that had killed two of his closest friends back on Bakura, and the fact that they were in the middle of a death-stick production facility; something that was slowly killing his new pilot, as well.

An unusual grim look came across Caden's face as he tightened his grip on his weapon.
"Let's get this joker and burn the whole place down."

Boba Fett cocked his head at Caden, "Not a wise suggestion us burning this place to the ground, Caden. You think you have it bad now with the Empire on your tails? Destroy this place and watch as every Hutt, Dug, or other villain decides they want a peice of you. This facility is big business for the underbelly of the galaxy." He snorted, "You will be seeing more than me or Cobin Sallo coming to find you! I say we just stick to the plan and kill this dark jedi... then we can all go on our merry way."

Brim nodded in consent, "Very well then, let's be off."

The companions went to the lift and saw that there was power to the motor and control board and so all climbed aboard. BIT tapped the button and it rose the three meters to the next level of the passage. Now they just needed to get past the blast door. There was a control panel for the door as well, but it had a bold red light. It was locked.

The controls to the door would need to be sliced, or perhaps the door itself - if the jedi lightsabers would work.

Caden looked a little queasy; he hadn't thought of that.
Odd... usually, self-preservation was the foremost thing on his mind.

Seeing that no one was volunteering to slice the door electronically, Kaida grunted, remembering that first door.  "Yes," she nodded. "But carefully. Might be rigged." Maybe she was getting paranoid. Losing a team member did that. She didn't want to lose any more. She held her gun at the ready and waited behind the others.

"Whoa, hold on a minute here... do we really need to go around telegraphing that we're coming and with some who wield lightsabers?"  Putting his rifle aside a moment, "Let me take a look first...  I may be a dead eye with a rifle, you haven't seen anything yet."

:ooc:
What kind of interface is this?  Simple lock or access panel for more than just the door?

:ooc: Matt, this would actually be a mechanics test, which you have a +12 and the DC is 20, so...

BIT moved between the two force-users before either could activate their lightsabers and began to fiddle with the control panel. He pulled a simple tool from his pouch to remove the screws that held the faceplate on and once off, he peered at the few wires that ran from the faceplate to the locking mechanisms circuit board. Flipping the tool around, it was a pair of simple pliers and the soldier pulled a wire off of a plug, and then another, and crossed them. The faceplate beeped and the control screen scrambled into gibberish, but the red light turned green. A second later there was a sound of a motor starting and the blast door began to rise. BIT gave a smile and a wink to the others and stood up.

The door took only a moment to rise but revealed another passage beyond. The team continued on their journey covering the distance under the mountain. The pitch of the passage was still rising and they knew they were going up. Their calves began to ache from the angle of the climb, but none complained. Almost an hour passed and then light could be softly seen down the length of the corridor. It caused them to quicken their pace until finally they came to where the cave passage opened up into a mammoth chamber.

At the far end of the chamber was a huge hole to the outside world and a circular platform was built. Within the chamber was the same kind of bunker-type buildings that lined both sides and were flush with the cave walls.

:ooc: The map of the chamber is posted and I have included a picturegrab from the original bounty hunter game so you guys can see what it looks like outside the cavern.
