Title: Eldanar fields - round 1
Post by: tomcat on May 02, 2012, 06:49 PM
Situation: The Company is approaching the southern flank of Eldanar and have found that it is under the watch of 5 Barghest - hounds of Angmar.

ALL Modifiers (situational, physical, weariness, wound conditions):

Initiative
Barghests (+4) - 14
Madoc (+7) - 13
Durgil (+2) - 10
Other PC's will be determined in round 4

Little was known in the south of the Barghest, but what a few loremasters did know was that they were created by the Witch-king in mockery of the faithful hounds of the west. Through dark magic and torture, these beasts were made to harrass the North Kingdom and they have been labeled a herald of woe to all who survive the chance of meeting.

Madoc noticed that the fog did not roll towards him in the sense of mists on the wind, more so that the fog rose from the very ground before them and creeped the distance closer. Within the approaching fog was the chittering barks and growls of some unknown beasts.

The other companions were now riding forth to aid their friends, but they were a ways away still and Dirnhael asked the grace of the higher lords that they would reach their companions in time.

What is the range on these creatures from us for range penalty purposes?  How many rounds before they are in melee range or are they already there?  Would it make any difference if we attempted to run towards the charging party to cut down on the number of rounds engaging them alone?

:ooc: I have no problem if you guys want to turn and run back towards your friends, Matt. It will take 1 round off of the delay. As for are the dogs in melee range? I will allow you guys a pre-round 1 round for a ranged attack.

Let me know.

"Shoot if you think you can do some damage but our friends are at our backs too, we must regroup with them!" says Durgil, loosening his blade.

:ooc:
Durgil will run if Madoc does, otherwise he will stand and fight.

Madoc let off a quick shot, then turned and began running as he swapped his bow for his sword. "Agreed!"

:ooc:
Madoc is shooting in the pre-round 1 round, and then running. I'm assuming this counts for the 1 round delay reduction?
Ranged Attack: Bows (longbow) +16
Rolled 2d6+16 : 5, 6 + 16, total 27

Durgil follows suit, blade out and ready to strike if one of those hellish beasts comes too close.

The two men ran and Madoc did not see his arrow disappear into the mists. It may have been guided by the hands of Manwë himself, for the arrow flew up and came down stabbing into the lead hound, catching it by utter surprise. It yelped and tumbled onto the ground and then righted itself and leapt once more into its charge.

Durgil saw the mists roiling up in their path and he knew that the dogs were almost upon them. The Dúnadan knew he need turn, otherwise the animals would take them down from behind and that would be fatal. He skidded to a stop and spun - six shapes hurled towards them in the fog. Behind them, the two men could hear the thunder of oncoming hooves.

:ooc: Madoc and Durgil need to give me parry rolls if they want to use an action to do that. Also need an opposed Willpower Reaction roll against the Intimidate roll result. DOS will determine effects.

Also, I am going to mook out these creatures and give them only three wound levels instead of six.

Standing his ground, Durgil got his blade up just in time to ward off the attacks -- these creatures came upon them so fast!

:ooc:
Gotta try to block even one of the attacks...
AC (LS) - Roll(2d6)+1: 6,3,+6 Total:15 [Spent 1 Courage]
AC (LS) - Roll(2d6)+1: 4,6,+1 Total:11
AC (LS) - Roll(2d6)+1: 5,1,+1 Total:7

Willpower - Roll(2d6)+2: 6,6,5+2 Total: 19

Where's that elvish might when we need it ;)

Madoc had little time to celebrate his accurate shot, and he barely had enough to ward off the attack of one of the hounds with his sword.

:ooc:
Parry rolls:
Armed Combat: Blades (Longsword): 2d6+12: 4,2+12=18
                                                           2d6+12: 2,2+12=16
Willpower: 2d6+2: 3,1+2=6

:ooc: Matt, I am wondering at your defense rolls... what is the modifier made up of? I have your PC at +8, specialty +2, then minus penalty of -3 = +7

Your first two parries would be at +7, then the last at +2. Let me know.

And by the way, I am reducing the mist penalty to -3. I am also giving Madoc Chain armor... gonna assume he was adorned back at Durgil's or Dirnhael's home for the travel.

So, if things stay as they are:

Durgil takes 9 damage, Dazed -1  :csu:
Madoc takes 11 damage, Dazed -1  :csu:

Let me know if you guys are going to attack this round.

Holy crap!!  I kept looking at the wrong numbers for the mods... was wondering why he was so inept LOL

No Durgil isn't going to attack this round.
