OOC: Awesome post Stefan!! ;) That rocked!
Keep it up guys! I will have the new post up later today.
As far as the last thread goes, you may all add to it as you wish, but though it was short, our chapter is ending and we are starting a new one.
I have awarded XP based on tests and RP'ing so for those that can, feel free to apply any advancement picks. As always, please post on this thread how you are spending your picks and apply them to your online character sheets.
BTW - can you also reply to the poll as to whether or not you guys still use the PDF downloadable character sheets. If not, I am going to eliminate them in my updates.
Thanks!
1) Accurate (Bow: Longbow)
2) --
3) Stealth +1
4) Debate +1
5) Lore: Race (Dwarves)
Matt - I added your advancement picks to your online character sheet - I will update the PDF's once I get everyone's advancements.
Doug
Edrahil:
1) Healing (Treat Sick, Wounds) +1
2) Lore/Wilderness: Herbalism
3) Language: Dunlendish (Dunlendish)
4) Lore/Realm: Hollin
5) Observe (Sense Power) +1
(online sheet updated)
Hey Brian,
I do not think you need to start a new Lore/Realm skill for Hollin, I think you need only buy the specialty Hollin and add it to your exisitng Lore/Realm. Let me check the Paths of the Wise to confirm this (unless you wanna check it before me) and I will get back to you.
Tomcat
Hmmm ... I thought Lore/Realm skills were groups, I can check again ...
On another note ... I mentioned before that I was working at rebuilding Edrahil from scratch (purely for my own edification ... don't worry, the end result will be the same). I can't seem to get all the points to match up, so I'm wondering what method you used originally to generate the attributes ... was it random, or did you use the fixed values (10,9,7,7,5,4).
Thanks,
Brian
Hey Brian,
Edrahil was gen'ed using the random method. Let me know which numbers you are not getting to sync; maybe I can lend some aid there.
As far as the Lore/Realm skill - yes, you are correct. Lore/Realm is the skill group (others would be Lore/Group, Lore/Wilderness, etc.), Hollin would be the specialty, like Lindon is the specialty he already possessed. So, my thinking here is you just need to add Lindon to your Lore/Realm.
Thus it would be: Lore/Realm (Lindon, Hollin) skill of +6
It still would cost 1 pick for the specialty so the picks are still balanced.
I am heading home now and I will reference my books...
Doug
Hey Brian,
I read into the Paths of the Wise and you are correct in how you have set up the new skill. Hollin is the skill group and specialties within would be types of terrain, rivers, ruins, etc.
Thus it would be: Lore/Realm: Hollin (Specialty) skill of +1
I may need to go through the rest of the character sheets to fix the skills so they are based on PotW rules.
Doug
Hi Doug,
Thanks for the clarification. The way the Lore skills are defined is very open ended, which is great for character diversity, but it seems a bit too arbitrary at times and the Narrator is left to interpret how things should be.
About Edrahil's attributes ... what was confusing me before is that I had assumed that the fixed base values were used, rather than random values, and I just couldn't make the numbers work out. If you can recall what the original random values were, that would be great. Otherwise, I''ll just use numbers that work for the character. I've never actually created a magician character before, so this has been a good exercise.
Cheers,
Brian
Hey Brian,
Sorry man... I can't remember the original die rolls, but all you need do is take the current attributes and subtract the racial bonuses. I know that there has never been any advancement points spent on upgrading any of Edrahil's attributes.
Doug
Hey no problem. I did notice one thing about Edrahil - unless I've missed something, his spell picks only add up to 19 rather than 20. So as not to change the character much, the extra point can be devoted to Create Light, giving a max radius of 40'.
Brian
One more quick note about Edrahil - I'm not sure how he is able to have the Enchantment order ability, which is from the Craftsman Order. Can you help me out with this one?
Thanks,
Brian
It comes from "The Art" race ability.

Hey Brian,
You can go to the following link and see Edrahil's attached grimoire and see how his Spell picks were used:

Bingo Nikitas! ;)
Let me know if you have any other questions Brian.
Thanks for the help! All the numbers work out for Edrahil. I must confess I skimmed the elven abilities in the CRB and missed the bit about Enchantment. I also forgot about the grimoire in the PDF character sheet detailing all the spell picks.
This was a good exercise, as I've found out about a lot of Edrahil's abilities that I was unaware of or had only skimmed over.
Cheers,
Brian
Since we started before the release of PotW, I suggest not retroactively altering our Lore skills because that would mean we'd have to know what were the past advancements for the characters as well as reallocating the initial picks would be a headache as well.
Nain's Advancement picks
1) +2 weaponsmith
2) Enchanting class skill
Oops Tomcat, I should've said Accurate (Shortbow).
Thanks
Fengel's Advancements:
AC: Polearm +1
Observe +1
Swift Strike +1
Okay, just waiting for Dirnhael's advancement picks... Galudir will have to wait until the end of this next chapter. :(
Paul, did you get back into the RPG Web Profiler?
Let me know.
I will have the new chapter posts up by Sunday.

No, I tried every password I could think of. I am registered under Palandil, problem is my email address has changed as well.

I'll try to get them tonight; if not - then I'll have them first thing tomorrow. Sorry about the delay...

Hey GoB,
I have added a new Language/Lore section to the online character sheets and it now breaks out the skills into Groups; Sub-groups; and Specialties. Due to the fact that we created these characters prior, I am going to leave Durgil's current Lore/Race alone, but that is the only one. Any new lore will have to be bought by groug/sub/ and then any specialties.
No Problem Shawn...
Everyone's character sheet is done otherwise. When you look at them, you will see I also added some additional lines for specialties for different skills. But, if you run out of room here, the sheets still have the Additional skills section.
Hey all,
I know I had a poll going here to inquire the usefulness of the PDF character sheets that I had available for you to download, and whether they should be kept or not.
Well... sorry to say, but even though the consensus was for them to stay, I have pulled them from the website - now you will only have the online character sheets available. Understand the online character sheet can be printed and it comes out as a very nice three page sheet (just follow the instructions on the Character Sheet thread if you have any problems).
I will keep the PDF's and the original Word docs that I print the PDF's from, but it is getting to hard to maintain the sheets with the ongoing advancements - much moreso than it is to just update the online sheet - primarily because I an running out of little cells to enter any new attained skills.
Anyway, if you would like the original character documents, just let me know and I will e-mail them to you.
Doug
Ah well I guess wasn't as bad as I thought. Since 1 pick was spent for each of those specialties and there is an equal number of ranks, it not a big deal to me to break them up into separate skills with 2 ranks in each.

Sure I'd love to have a copy of the document. It's a really good sheet that I can use for other characters as well. Do you have Edrahil's grimoire in a form-fillable format?
Thanks,
Brian
I have one more question about the online character sheets, about the Improvements column for Abilities and Edges. For Spellcasting, Edrahil has taken the Ability 4 times, so this makes sense. On the edges, when you say "1" for Stron-willed, tireless and Resolute, does this mean that these edges have been picked only once (the first time), or have they been "improved" once?
My guess is that each edge has been picked only once.
Thanks,
Brian
Hey Brian,
You are correct... when I transfered the data to the online sheets, I put a 1 for the edges that had been picked once (thus Strong-willed 1 gives a +2 bonus, Strong-willed 2 gives +4, etc.).
I will e-mail you both forms for you to use at your leisure. They are in MS Word format. If you need any of the fonts, let me know.
Doug
Thanks!
I'm playing around with creating another character for a different game, and I have one more question that I think you guys can help me with.
When creating a background package, it appears that adding an Edge to it still costs only one pick (rather than two as in the Advancement table). I suppose someone into min-maxing could pick 6 Edges in this way to get the most out of their points. My question is, are racial skills (for the purposes of Advancement points) the ones listed in the Background Package, or are Racial skills any skill listed for that race. My gut feeling is that racial skills are only those from the background package (so that there is motivation to pick skills as well as Edges for the package).
Oh wait ... found a note in the errata that says the one point cost for "Racial" skill advancement is only for Native Languages and Lore - unfortunately, this really makes it easy to want to pick all Edges for a background package - is there some limitaion on this that I have missed somewhere?
Thanks,
Brian

Hey Brian, here is the ultimate form to get you through character creation... Character Generation Sheet (http://www.geocities.com/djoos5/char_gen1.pdf)
As far as the CRB states, you get 6 racial picks in the beginning or you can pick a Racial background. Your Wits x 3 is also Racial skill picks for Language and Lore. I, as a Narrator, allow players to mark their sheets (under Type=O,N,R) with an R for all skills that they originally picked as Racial skills so they are cheaper for future Advancements (1 pick instead of 2).
Hey Paul,
I just forwarded the same mail I sent to Brian, but for Edrahil.

A character, for the purposes of Racial Development alone, could actually start with 7 edges and 1 flaw while not selecting any skills. It would be the Narrator to adjudicate this of course and it's highly doubtful any Narrator would allow it.
Thanks very much for all your thoughts on my various rules questions guys. I really appreciate your expertise.
I have created characters in the past, but stuck mainly to straightforward picks. Edrahil's 'rebuild' was a bit more complex and had more Advancements than any of my other characters, and it showed me a few details I had missed in the past.
Cheers,
Brian
Advancement picks for Dirnhael:
+1 to Ride (Horse)
+1 to Observe (Spot)
+1 to Survival (Field)
Add Edge: Wary
Thanks!
