Hathcyn moved through the woods, not even breaking stride as the brush and the trees obstructed the view of the river bank. This fight had been predetermined and the Longspear felt he had been granted his wish to face his foes as a man.
His strides and spear carried at the low ready he strode towards the bronze helmed warrior. Getting close he broke into a trot.
"You have dogged my steps long enough, and now you shall feel the steel of men thrust by the spirit of the fox. Your hunt is ended vermin and now you will find much harder to fight than to chase."

The cross bar of the great spear and the shaft of the spear were not as suited to this terrain, but the Longspear managed to make contact with his foe.
Recognizing the presence of the Shadow amongst their foes, Gwaithlim takes aim again at the foe with burnished fore and released with a 'twang!'

The Ranger, always aware that archery can only give an immediate advantage lest there be those that stand a line to protect the archer, reached to her scabbard and drew forth her sword. With her bow still in her left hand, she closed the distance to their foes for melee.
She could sense a darker power within them, but fear did not manifest. Esgalwen had seen far too many things for her anger and the desire for vengeance for her friends to be assuaged.
:ooc: Forward stance and she will attack the braid-bearded warrior

:ooc: That's a Protection test (TN 16) for your target. I think, from your narrative, that you were aiming at the bronze-helmed man, but Hathcyn has already taken him down (Open stance > Rearward stance) so I'm arbitrarily declaring that you've hit the Savage Man instead.

:ooc: I will despise the aid of no player who is willing to roll for me to keep the game kicking onwards! The :g: is to slaves of the Shadow as the :~~: is to you guys: not an auto-fail, but bad news.
As Esgalwen and Hathcyn surge forward, tools of war in sure hands, Luindîs falters. Her hands - so sure on the harp-strings! - are now all of a muddle as she fumbles with her arrow and bow. Beside her, unfazed by the howling that even now comes echoed back from what can only be more hunting parties further along the shore, Gwaithlim nocks, draws and shoots, the snapping of his string almost merging with the smack of his arrow finding its mark and the crash of a Mannish body all at once collapsing into the brush, so close upon them is the foe.
Her ears, so keen to find melody and harmony, have not marked the gurgling screams of the Men slain in seconds with sword and spear. But the onslaught of the northern invaders has not yet had time to falter, and the large Man who already bears one of her shafts in his flesh is now mere steps away, his mouth open in a wordless, animal bellow. As her hands at last recall long years of practice in sport beneath the boughs of Mirkwood, her eyes see clearly how smooth his face is, how slight and patchy his beard.
His sword is raised. Her bow is nocked. Drawn.
She shoots...

The youth falls, swiftly sent from the world by an arrow through his neck. Not ten paces away the white-haired warrior, now the last of his party standing, backs away from his foes, a cunning look in his eyes. "HERE!" he calls, his voice shrill with battle-terror. "HERE THEY ARE!" The he turns to flee, his bare feet sure and his legs strong.
:ooc: The last survivor will try to escape the combat - to link up with his compatriots, perhaps? Or just to flee? Who can say at this point. His TN is 18 (10 plus Hathcyn's favoured Body rating):
