Barely has Gwaithlim regained his feet when a warg leaps upon him, its slavering jaws locking around his arm with shocking force. Only the rings of his mail, well-wrought by the armourers of
Imladris, save him from having the bone wrenched from its socket as warg worries at Elf like a terrier with a rat. Screams of nearby Men are sign enough that others are meeting the same fate.
At the sight of Gwaithlim's plight, Luindîs drops her bow and draws her sword. With a shrill cry, she rushes to his rescue.
:ooc: Luindîs is shifting into Forward stance and attacking the Slavering warg (TN 11)

To Gwaithlim's eyes, the wild swinging of the younger Elf is barely less dangerous to him than to the beast that assails him, but a lucky strike across the warg's back draws blood, and it releases his ill-used arm before whirling about to face this new foe.
:ooc: This seems like an opportune time to see how your followers are going. Since Hathcyn seems to have been doing most of the commanding, rallying etc, I'm going to roll Battle for him:

Rolled 3d6 : 4, 5, 4, total 13
:ooc: Okay, that's not looking brilliant for your side, but a Hope point will put it over the top as a basic success...
Yes, need to spend it. The Forest Helm cant let his first command go down like chumps
The blood boils in the veins of the Noldo, returning a feral snarl of his own. Fending off the beast his his off hand, Gwaithlim aims to skewer the creature with the other.

Seeing her elf companion despairing as he hooks his own cape on his own sword and then stabs into a tree that stands near, pinning himself to its trunk... upside down... Esgalwen moves quickly to aid him so that the warg cannot cause him further harm.
:ooc: ;D I will attack the snarling warg

Look at that shit roll! I get an :~~: and the majority of the success dice are three and under!
As Elf and Ranger alike find their footing unsteady in the mud and morass, the warg, surer on its four feet, takes advantage where it comes. Still snarling, it launches itself at Esgalwen, jaws agape...
:ooc: Because of your :~~:, this is automatically a called shot on the part of the Warg (TN 18):

Esgalwen is borne to the gore-slick ground by the fury of the warg's attack, but though its jaws gnash and tear at her belly the leatherworkers of Gondor know their craft well and though she will be sore bruised it is a wound from which she will walk away.
In the brief pause while the warg vents itself on his companion, Hathcyn raises his gaze to the rest of the company and his heart is lifted a little, for though several Men have fallen before the warg's assault and lie now torn and still, the rest have kept their good order and even now are closing ranks as the wargs begin to lose heart and back away. No great reprive have they won, though, for even now he marks the shapes of wargs and their orcish riders circling through the driving rain. How near are we now to the gate and the wall? he finds himself thinking. If we were to move swiftly, could we perhaps be there before the next wave breaks upon us?
:ooc: Dammit, I completely forgot to have the other warg attack Luindîs! Doing that now (TN 11):
:00: 1d12 : 9, total 9
Rolled 2d6+3 : 2, 2 + 3, total 7
The Elf-minstrel shrieks as the warg, the cut upon its back still bleeding, snarls and snaps at her. Fleet she is and nimble, and its jaws catch little but her clothes but these it savages, yanking her body this way and that until, with a great tearing her cloak flies free, momentarily covering the beast before it shakes the ruined thing to the ground.
:ooc: Luindîs loses five Endurance.

:ooc: Hey Paul, just so you know - Esgalwen only wears a leather shirt, so she only gets 1d+1 on that protection. Still, with the roll above - the second die (4) is not needed, but I am correcting your combat headers to the right stat. She was lucky on this one!
The Foresthelm called out in command over the din of battle.
"Stay together, but let us move to the rear! The wall is not far."
:ooc: Going to use the Command action to possibly give my companions bonus dice.
