• Arbogast succeeds with a 28 great success and will not need to roll for Thing of Terror anymore.
• Rorin succeeds with an 18 great success and will not need to roll for Thing of Terror anymore.
• Grimbeorn fails with an 11 and is DAUNTED
• Bandy fails with a 7 and remains DAUNTED
Ren turned back towards the companions who now stood beside the Elf.
An offense!
The Dwarf dared to strike at his form! The Nazgûl would have none of it. Like ichor bleeding out from a wound, the Shape slipped from his mount and in a rush was upon Rorin.
:ooc: Ren attacks Rorin...
1st - he uses 1 HATE point to activate Bewilder, which reduces Rorin's defense TN to the basic stance TN.
2nd - Rorin must defend against the Nazgûl's Black Breath with a Corruption test (below)
3rd - Ren attacks Rorin with his sword two-handed

:ooc: Oh crap! An :~~: on that Corruption test...that is not good.
Results
• Rorin is hit for 9 END loss
• Rorin fails his Corruption test and the following - he gains 1 Shadow point and falls unconscious; the :~~: roll means he is stricken by the Black Shadow*
* A victim of the Black Shadow remains unconscious for a number of days equal to the Attribute level of the highest-rated Ringwraith the character faced when he was exposed to the Black Breath. For each of these days, the sick character must pass a Corruption test against TN 16 or gain a point of Shadow; reduce the TN to 14 if the hero is assisted with a successful Healing roll.
Should a stricken hero's Shadow rating overcome his Hope score during the malady, then the character slips into ever deeper dreams and then dies. If the hero resists for the length of the malady, he finally overcomes his sickness and wakes up (but maintains the new Shadow score).
:ooc: So, based on the Black Shadow...
• Rorin is now unconscious and will remain that way for 8 days (Ren's attribute level when he was affected)
• I need to make 8 Corruption tests. If he fails too many, Rorin will slowly fade into deeper darkness and then death over these 8 days. I am making the test TN 14 due to the herbs given you guys by the farmer's wife.

:ooc: So, Rorin will gain one more Shadow, but he will survive - save he is not killed with a Coup de Grâce.
Even as Rorin had bolstered their spirits with his strong attack, the Shape was on him, smashing its own sword down. The companions watched as Rorin crumbled to the ground and Ren the Unclean drew back to face them once more.
Not far from where the Company held their line, Bandy stumbled upon a large pile of bags and other treasures. He had found the confiscated items of all those held captive. He quickly rummaged through it all and came up, at last, with a beautifully crafted bow of the Woodland Realm that was strung with a fine wire of mithril.
Arbogast let's slip a wordless cry as Rorin falls, seemingly lifeless, before the dark rider. But the same shock galvanises him, and at last he finds his resolve.
Before the dark spirit can press its advantage, he is upon it.
:ooc: Before I wax heroic, let's see how Arbogast copes with the Black Breath...
Rolled 1d12 : 9, total 9
Rolled 4d6 : 4, 1, 1, 3, total 9
For a moment, the Fire-watcher is conscious of an odour that is somehow both corrupt and empty, like a place once feculent and now abandoned to the wastes. His eyes are drawn to the black rider's sword, which manages not to reflect any light from the still-blazing fire, and shadows creep about his mind...
But then the moment is gone, and the Warden's Axe sings through the air.
:ooc: It doesn't come much closer than that!
Arbogast will shift into Defensive stance, because every little bit helps, and attack.

Rolled 4d6 : 3, 6, 3, 6, total 18
:ooc: Niiiice. I'll use the extraordinary success to disarm it. Let's see how tough it is without a morgul blade!
Grimbeorn is dismayed at the falling of his companion and follows Arbogast to aid him, albeit a tad reluctantly.
:ooc: Grimbeorn changes Protect Companion to Arbogast and will attack.

• Grimbeorn misses with an 8
A stray thought entered into the fear filled mind of the Hobbit. 'How can Ruthiel keep the Wraith at Bay with the flame and fire a bow?'
Bandy saw Rorin, his closest friend who he had spent many winters with, fall to the ground. The fear was replaced with anger, not the anger of destruction and wonton hate, but that anger which moves people to great deeds. Without another conscious thought the Small Hobbit drew the Woodland Bow and fired.
