Situation: Holed up in the Millfort, the company plans to deal a wicked sting to the Spiders of Mirkwood!

Combat Advantage dice:
• Esgalwen 1 / 2
• Rorin 2 / 2


Situation Modifiers:
• The Company has initiative

Physical Modifiers (complications):
The Millfort is impregnable save for five locations.

A) Each door has been successfully repaired and has 60 END points each (FRONT 60/60; BACK 55/60). No spiders can get in them until they reduce the doors to 0 END and then roll a Piercing attack that overcomes a 3d armor rating.

B) Each window is a vantage point that allows an attack out (and in). Ranged weapons may be fired out and the defending archer gains the Rearward DEFENSE, but may use the Open ATTACK TN. Overwhelming numbers of enemies do not affect ranged combat while the defenses hold. Melee weapons may be used to attack out (and in) but the defenders gain the Defensive DEFENSE TN rating, but may use the Forward ATTACK TN. Attackers from the outside may return a melee attack through a window, but may NOT enter the fort.

C) The hatch has been successfully repaired and has 40 END points. No spiders can get through it until they reduce the hatch to 0 END and then roll a Piercing attack that overcomes a 2d armor rating.

D) The floor has been successfully repaired and has 20 END points. No spiders can get through it until they reduce the floor to 0 END and then roll a Piercing attack that overcomes a 1d armor rating.

E) The stone roof of the fort is compromised - there is a large hole here. The second floor offers little defense and any PC that decides to fight on the second floor will not be eligible for vantage defenses once spiders come through the hole in the roof. Ranged combat WILL be affected by overwhelming numbers, if the archer positions themselves here, instead of on the first floor.

IF the first floor defenses are compromised, vantage benefits are lost as the spiders enter the room. There will be NO opening volleys, as the things coming in the night are invisible in the trees.

The gathered companions on the second floor of the Millfort watched as four more attercops squeezed through the hole in the roof.  The floor and walls were now crawling with spiders.

Below, Bandy and Esgalwen continued to fire out through their vantages at those spiders that scurried outside the fortification.

:ooc: With four more spiders, that makes the count on the second floor to be: 8 living spiders.

They are attacking as such:

Arbogast faces 3 and 6
Rorin faces 8 and 9
Grimbeorn faces 7 and 10
Bofri faces 5 and 11

Arbogast dodges the stinger of an attercop that appears suddenly at his side, but the effort costs him a chance to regain his breath.  The Woodman gives ground, tightening the square that the two Men and two Dwarves have formed around the trapdoor.  Keeping his shield up, he swings his axe at the wounded creature.

 :ooc: No, he got it right. Twin Strike costs 2 success dice to initiate and then you spread your remaining dice upon 1 or 2 opponents.

Rorin delivers a 25 Great success for 16 END loss, which is a kill

The companions were now immersed in battle.

On the first floor of the keep, the attercops moved from window to window in hopes to catch prey standing idly close, but Bandy and Esgalwen were comfortably within the center of the room firing arrows through these vantage points. The Dúnadan let loose an arrow that struck the underside of a spider as it crawled over a window, which was perfectly timed as it allowed Bandy's own shot to strike true. The Hobbit's arrow having been fired moments after would have been deflected by one the same monster's shelled body, but instead buried itself in another.

Upstairs, Men and Dwarves took on grim looks as the spiders filled the chamber through the hole in the roof. Hammer and axes struck true, and the things fell with a thud to the weakened wooden floor. But the small group of four were properly surrounded with their only escape through the hatch in the floor. The attercops realized the situation and so webs were weaved...
