MASS COMBAT |
:~~: | One of the Woodmen is slain. If rolled again in the following round, Geirbald is gravely wounded. |
1, 2 | The allies are hard-pressed to hold the enemy back. One of the Woodmen is wounded – or, if any are already wounded, then that one is slain. The defensive circle is being pressed - if this is rolled again, the raiders also slay a horse. |
3 - 5 | The Woodmen hold their line and keep fighting. |
6, 7 | The allies fight bravely, pushing the enemy back. Black raider blood spills across the field. If this result is rolled twice in a row, then the allies slay one of the raiders! |
8 | One of the raiders is slain. |
9 | Two of the raiders are slain. |
10 | Three of the raiders are slain. |
:g: | Four of the raiders are slain. |
The raiders numbers were quickly decimated by the volley of arrows that were winged into their encampment, and then the mass of the shield wall struck.
Grimbeorn bulled his way into the group and brought his axe, Bear Claw, smashing down into the commander of the raiders. It took him in the shoulder and bit down cleaving him open. The man fell backwards dead. If it had any affect on the morale of the raiders, it could not be seen, so quickly was chaos erupting. Geirbald and his men, along with three of the Company engaged others and more men and orcs died.
But the surprise was now lost and the enemy was armed and ready - they brought the fight back to their attackers.

:ooc: mass combat roll
Rolled 1d12 : 8, total 8
Wyrtácléofa bites deeply into orc-flesh, driving the creature backwards, but it has blood on its mind and barely seems to feel the blow. In its frenzy, it launches itself bodily at the Fire-Watcher, its spear knocking his shield aside and driving towards the meat of his thigh. Arbogast feels the impact and for a heartbeat is sure that the spearhead has transfixed his leg. But his armour is well-wrought, and he gives silent thanks for the many hours that his kin spent in its making.
Then it is time once again for bloodshed as the raiders press desperately against the shieldwall.

:ooc: Just need Rorin's actions for this round and then I can move on the game.
His two victims reeled as Rorin's wide blow connected, but they quickly countered the attack. While one of the orcs bashed Rorin with his shield the other put his weight into his spear and aimed it at Rorin's chest. The Dwarf trusted his mail but the blow nearly knocked the wind out of his lungs nonetheless. As he staggered under the blow, Grimbeorn's axe bit into his attacker's neck and the orc fell lifeless to the ground. Rorin gathered his strength for another swing...

:ooc: To be perfectly honest, I'm not entirely sure how the Old English pronunciation works. I say 'WUR-tuh-CLEE-o-fuh'. I give it a bit of a Germanic feel by rolling the 'r' - 'WURrrrr'.
Also, if you'll pardon me:

I know you have a lot of numbers to keep track of - but Arbogast got a great success:

He doesn't deal out damage like our other front-line guys, so I like to make sure it all gets counted!
I could smash the orc's shield, or disarm him, but it's probably easier just to take him out.
