The cruel creatures roared and charged as the companions readied themselves for the oncoming storm.

Lifting herself up from the mud, Esgalwen drew forth her sword and raced to Arbogast's side. She was still staggered, but it did not deter her from standing with her friends.

The halfling pushed back the brim of his hat causing the water to cascade down his back. Bending the yew wood of his bow he let his first arrow fly.

:ooc: Thanks Doug for the info on mounted combat... just wanted to know what my options were.

Grimbeorn lept from his steed with the haft of his ancestral weapon in hand.  Bear Claw almost sparkled with the glint from rain dripping from it, as if a hungry beast salivated.  The young man seemed to grow in stature relative to his ire as he stood between his friends on the oncoming threat.  "For blood and victory!" he bellowed, ready to engage the enemy.

:ooc: Instead of an attack, Beorn chooses to intimidate to reduce Hate.

:ooc: If it wasn't clear before, Grimbeorn takes a Forward Stance.  And I will use another Hope if it will help.

The arrow is a piercing blow for I believe 9 dmg and a protection test.

Narrowing his eyes against the rain, Arbogast hefts his spear in one hand and casts it at the oncoming troll.

:ooc: Everything that follows is conditional on my being able to keep my rather satisfactory 'to hit' roll from the other thread.  :P  If I can't do that, please just assume that he missed.

Rolled 1d12 : 9, total 9
Rolled 2d6 : 1, 1, total 2

:ooc: Okay, Rorin and Arbogast will be able to move their attacks from the Stone Path thread to the round 1 combat thread, which I will be posting next.

As for the opening volley thread:

• Matt - any intimidation would need be done in the first round of combat
• Arbogast missed with his thrown spear
• Bandy hits his target for 9 Endurance and a piercing blow TN 14

Troll [Bin] protection test
TN 14 armour 3d
:00: 1d12 : 12, total 12
Rolled 3d6 : 5, 3, 1, total 9

Troll [Dim] opening volley - throws boulder at Grimbeorn
TN 22 boulder ♦♦○○○○
:00: 1d12+6 : 3 + 6, total 9
Rolled 2d6 : 2, 3, total 5

:dmg: 8  edge :~~: injury 14
*since Rorin is in the party, all weapon attacks are considered to be favoured thus the +6 to the attack roll

:ooc: Results...

• Bandy is really kick-ass!

The 12 is a  :g:  result, which for a Shadow creature is a 0. Bin is reduced by 9 endurance and is INJURED. Trolls need to be INJURED twice to kill them, or reduce them to 0 Endurance and INJURE them once. BUT - he is considered Weary

• Dim misses Grimbeorn

Moving on to the next thread for round 1. Rorin and Arbogast's attacks have already been rolled for this round and I will publish their results.
