Title: Along the Watchtower - round 2
Post by: tomcat on Dec 29, 2011, 12:30 AM
Situation: A garrison of Dugs (5 - 1 is captain) and Grans (16) bar the passage of a valley turn and must be engaged.

Situational Modifiers: All PC/NPC's will suffer a -5 penalty for firing into any melee, unless they are the ones in the melee or have the Precise Shot feat.

Gran 1 - DEAD
Gran 2 - 28/32; -1 CT
Gran 3 - 12/32

Physical Modifiers: -5 penalty to all PC's action rolls due to darkness, unless they have natural or equipment low-light vision. This penalty will go away after round 5 (yes, I know rounds are 6 seconds and there is a bit of time until the sun rises, but things go slow in PbP games).

:ooc:Doug, why is Brim only half-way to the door of the tower, while Farok is already there?

:ooc: Because Farok is crazy, young Jedi.

:ooc: My mistake Aryn, I misread what your round 1 post meant. Also, to answer your questions from before - running would have required the full round action so you don't yet know if the door is locked and you will need to use a Swift action in this round to ignite your saber.

I will update the map with your correct position in a bit.

BIT gets to his gear and activates his noise-cancelling device (sound sponge) so as to not attract any further attention while he dons his gear.

:ooc: How many move actions will this take?  He's got the jet pack, shadowsuit, and utility belt.

:ooc: If we were sitting at a table, Matt, I'd say at least 30 seconds (or five rounds). But due to the pace of PbP, I am only going to require through all of round 3, so you may act again on round 4.

Aryn, I fixed the map.

John has lead here, but I am going to go for Fett... but first I must go to the bank.

Caden looked to move up and get closer to Sam; he wasn't armed with a rifle - he was more comfortable with his trusty blaster pistol - and firing at range wasn't what it was built for.

:ooc: Depending on how quickly Caden can close on Sam, he'll also fire to distract and confuse, making certain he keeps his shots a safe distance away from Farok and Brim.

Farok was winded but exhilarated by his run across the scrub and cleared jungle terrain. Memories of times past and his youth filled him. He could feel the force swell around him as his body and spirit opened up to embrace the power around him. He calmed his mind as he was taught long ago and instead of dulling the feeling grew as he time around him seemed to slow down, he had time now to think through and go through options while the world moved by at a snail's pace around him. He thought he could even hear his companions and foes breathing despite the distance.
The door to the tower was before him and he could see and feel Brim coming up along side of him. The light saber was light and spinning in his hand and as he came upon the door he used that momentum to cut a gash in the door. The door was no match for the power of the ligthsaber and he began to breach the door so that Brim could follow through into the tower.

:ooc: Dude! What is up with you and the freakin' dice roller??  ':}

Even though it is a Nat 1, your saber is still cutting into it. Unfortunately, it is going to take a bit of help:

Wooden door Hit Points of 25 - 13 = 12 left

With the whole team now in motion, Fett smiled under his visor. "They just needed some incentive," he thought. His blaster still tucked into his shoulder, he fired on the sniper nest again as he pushed forward.

STANDARD - autofire on Sniper blind
:00: DC 10 ranged +10, autofire (controlled burst) -2, Point blank +1, Rapid shot -2
Rolled 1d20+7 : 7 + 7, total 14

damage if successful (1/2 if not) 4d8+6 : 5, 4, 4, 5 + 6, total 24

MOVE - normal speed

:ooc: Grans take 12 damage each

G2: 32/32 DEAD (the threshold was not overcome but I am not going to worry about unconscious NPC mooks)
G3: 24/32

Kaida heard the shooting and the shouting all around her and hoped the team was surviving. Getting the drop on the enemy was helping and she had to admit the blast from Fett's rocket pack had produced the chaos they needed. Battle was, at best, controlled chaos. At its worst, it was heaping hot mess of bantha fecal matter. She lined up her scope on the other sniper and pulled the trigger.

Swift Action: This is her second swift action for Aims.
Standard Action: Shoots aimed shot at G3.
Blaster Carbine 1d20+7 : 5 + 7, total 12

Damage if Hit 3d8+3 : 3, 6, 2 + 3, total 14

Move Action: Stays put prone behind cover, and does a second swift action instead. Inspire Haste (on anyone who needs it this round--first come first serve). An ally in LOS can make a skill check that requires a standard action as a move action instead.

The Dug commander staggered through the arched doorway of the tower's second tier and out onto the platform that wrapped round the structure. He was still unsure of what was going on, save that the intruders they expected had gotten the upper hand on them. He looked up and realized his main gun was destroyed, and the hail of fire on the sniper blind in the tree to his left could only mean that those soldiers were dead.

He looked down and saw shapes moving about in the darkness below - from where blaster fire would emanate, or the two that were holding lightsabers! They were cutting a hole into his only defensive structure. Trevulo could see enough to return the attack on his enemy. He reached to the bandolier that hung over his shoulder and drew a grenade from it. Flicking the pin, he let it drop towards the ground below and the jedi that stood there.

:ooc: Understand that the Jedi power Move Light Objects can be used t stop thrown grenades. If you choose to defend in this manner, I will give you the instructions necessary to try and defend.

[EDIT] I am going to reduce the number of weapons he can draw to one.

Trevulo actions:
MOVE - grabs grenade
STANDARD - grenade attack
:00: DC 10 Ranged +8, Darkness -5
grenade attack 1d20+3 : 3 + 3, total 6

damage if successful, 1/2 if not 4d6+2 : 4, 6, 6, 2 + 2, total 20

Farok and Brim heard a sound above their heads as the grenade fell and hit the side of the tower. It took a good bounce and was deflected in the wrong direction from them when it blew. The pressure wave rolled over them, but there was no hazard of shrapnel. As the grenade exploded, Kaida took her shot and struck the Gran sniper in the shoulder causing him to spin and knocking him from the platform. The alien landed hard on the stoney valley floor and did not move again.

:ooc: G3 takes 14 for 38/32 - DEAD.

Brim quickly brought his own weapon to bear on the wooden door, hoping to cut through the hinges and take the whole thing off.

:ooc:Here we go!

Attack the door: 1d20+10 : 20 + 10, total 30

If successful, causes this much damage: 2d8+2 : 1, 4 + 2, total 7

:ooc:Yeah! Natural 20! ... the damage calculation is wrong through.... it should read 2d8+2+3, which would add up to 10 points, not 7.

:ooc: dang it that was supposed to be my gift from Santa!  :'( stoopid dice roller. Is the door toast?

Post by: tomcat on Jan 02, 2012, 01:49 AM
:ooc: Hee hee... at least you can no longer say that the roller favors just the GM.  ;)

The door falls in from Brim's cut. Yea, the dice roller doesn't handle multiple equations (i.e. 1d20+2+3) - instead just type 1d20+5. Also, the Nat 20 doubles the effect of the damage so it is 20 and cuts the door in two.

Logar runs the distance to the tower - going to place you near the door and ladder, John.

Just need Caden and Sam and then I can do the Dugs and the Grans and move us on.

:ooc: I posted earlier in the thread - I'd like Caden to get as close as he can to Sam, and if he has an action left, he'll provide Farok and Brim with covering fire.

:ooc: Yes, you did, Shawn! Sorry. I didn't miss it, just forgot it was there. I have your action mechanics below. Based on the red line LOS marker on the map, it shows that Caden has no blocking terrain to fire on Dug 4. Understand the Dug is roughly 9 feet higher than Caden's position, due to the Rampart. Still, there is the little issue with darkness... let's see.

Caden's actions
MOVE - six squares to G11
STANDARD - fire on D4
:00: DC 17 Ranged w/ PB +8, Darkness -5
Rolled 1d20+3 : 9 + 3, total 12

damage if successful 3d8+4 : 3, 3, 7 + 4, total 17

Caden will also choose this Dug to use his Dodge feat, increasing his defense by +1

Dugs on rampart fire
MOVE - D1 and D4 move into better fire positions
STANDARD - D3 and D2 attack
:00: DC 10 ranged +9, Point blank +1, autofire -5, darkness -5
D2 attacks 2x2 square w/ F & B 1d20 : 9, total 9

D3 attacks 2x2 square w/ B & L 1d20 : 9, total 9

D2 damage if successful; 1/2 if not 3d8+3 : 6, 5, 2 + 3, total 16

:ooc: The Dug soliers fail to even hit a DC 10 and so the blaster fire scatters all around the three attacking the tower.

Grans inside the tower rush to the weapons cabinet and will be armed and ready for round 3.
