Situation: The team is set upon by three Nexu that have stealthily maneuvered in to attack
Situational Modifiers:
Weariness CT:
Caden -2 to all actions
Brim -1 to all actions
Physical Modifiers: -1 to all PC's movement/melee action rolls due to slick, muddy, or boggy ground
Initiative:
Nexu 1 (+12) 24 (auto initiative due to surprise)
Fett (+11) 30
Nexu 2 (+12) 27
Nexu 3 (+12) 22
Kaida (+11) 29
Sam (+11) 14
Caden (+3) 13
Logar (+11) 13
Brim (+6) 9
Farok (+1) 3
REMEMBER - in this round, even though you may have a higher initiative roll, you still cannot act due to surprise. Only Brim and Fett know of two of the Nexus' presence and they can only warn in their initiative order. Nexu 1 is totally unseen and gets first attack on whomever I determine. Starting round 2, we will go to normal initiative order.
The round map will be added when I get home.
The team continued to press on as the valley took a right turn. It was quiet now. Brim who stood out before the others on point noticed that the sounds of the jungle had ceased. The foliage some meters to his left and right moved due to the approach of some kine of large beast. The Rodian's tongue cleaved to the roof of his mouth as a huge Nexu leapt towards him and attacked.
Moving in the midst of the other members, Fett also noticed a change in the jungle and saw the movement. It was apparent to the bounty hunter that no one else was aware...
:ooc: I will post Nexu 1's attack roll on Brim when I get home, along with Fett and the others Nexus. This is what these beasties look like:

Sam thought to himself, "It's been pretty quiet on this trip so far..."

Fett reacts to the oncoming Nexu - he sees 2 and 3Swift - shouts a warning to the others regarding Nexu 3 - eliminates surprise for Nexu 3
Move - moves to get a better position on Nexu 1, that he is now aware of due to its attack
Standard - Fire on Nexu 1

:ooc: I have no problem with the PC's all having weapons drawn and ready - it would seem appropriate. This said, you may only have one weapon readied. Also the traces on the map show where the Nexu approached from.
Nexu 2 makes its surprise attack on Logar (who is flat-footed)Move - 4 squares to attack
Standard - attack Logar

-no damage is rolled if successful, but Farok may make an opposed Grapple roll; if he rolls higher than the Nexu he is not pinned, otherwise he is pinned and cannot move or take any actions. He also loses his Dex modifier to Reflex - rendering him flat-footed.
:ooc: Only Nexu 3 had success. Farok will need to make an opposed Grapple DC 20
:ooc: So we can attack this round doug? with any weapon that was already in hand correct?
:ooc: what are the grapple mods for having only one arm? I'm pretty sure Farok is screwed here.
:ooc: Hey John, I have been trying to interpret the Surprise and awareness rules, but it looks like I did this wrong. Aware characters are the only ones allowed to act in the surprise round, and they are only around one action (i.e. standard, swift, or move). Unaware PC's cannot act in the surprise round.
So, no, Logar and everyone else, except Brim, will have to wait for round two. As for the weapon you can use, you can use any of them. I just wanted to give you guys the green light that it is assumed that you would have 1 weapon drawn while moving through a hostile jungle swamp.
Tom... there is no further rules on grappling in the core book - maybe another book has more info. Anyway, Farok is making an opposed grapple which is more of a maneuver NOT to be grappled, so it would make sense that even with one arm, he could fend off or maneuver.
Your skill rank to Grapple is +8. Remember though, there is a -1 penalty due to slick terrain.
Rolled 1d20+8 : 17 + 8, total 25
:ooc: Opposed grapple is 24
the one armed man has moves.
:ooc: nice roll, dude. That may have been very bad news for Farok.
Anyway, on to round 2.
:ooc: Oops! Forgot Brim's attack.
