Scuttling briefly away from Esgalwen's blade, the greenish spider launches itself bodily at the Ranger, the impact knocking her sideways as she struggles both to keep her face and throat from the thing's dreadful mouth-parts and to pull Nimronyn into a position where its length might aid her.  The spiders facing Grimbeorn and Hathcyn are more circumspect, skittering to high positions before turning their spinnerets upon the two Beornings, clearly hoping to bring them down as they have done their cousin.

Arbogast, meanwhile, has ceased to fashion intelligible words but gives only grunts and growls as he thrashes his body too and fro beneath the assailing of the greenish spider's two compatriots, and a third, larger specimen that leaps gladly into the opening presented by its momentary distraction.

:ooc: Esgalwen loses three Endurance points, mostly from the thump of a pig-sized spider into her body, but Hathcyn and Grimbeorn escape being entangled.  Arbogast loses 12 Endurance from a series of stings, and has to make a Protection roll vs TN 14:
:00: 1d12 : 2, total 2
Rolled 2d6+4 : 6, 3 + 4, total 13

Grimbeorn gets a little more brave with his tactics, moving in such a fashion to take down the spider he previously attacked and hairy one against Arbogast.

:ooc: Stance: Open Stance, Action: Twin Strike, Advantage die
 :00:
Axes (Mud) -  1d12 : 3, total 3
Rolled 2d6 : 2, 5, total 7

:ooc: It certainly would - you're only two off the TN.

EDIT: I'll hold off spending the point unless you explicitly say that's what you want to do.

The spider skittered away into the trees :ooc:  but Hathcyn was not called the Longspear in jest.

Standing in the mire he growled and attempted to strike again.

Rolled 1d12 : 6, total 6

Rolled 4d6 : 2, 2, 5, 5, total 14

:ooc: where did we land on weary affecting protection tests or not? I seem to remember this came up. Since its based on the armor itself and not an attribute I dont see how it should.

:ooc: I don't recall when we last talked about it, or what the conclusion was, but I agree with Tom.

Not fast enough can the spider flee before Hathcyn's spear pierces it through and it dies, legs and mandibles still twitching, spitted upon the shaft.  Nearby, Bear Claw splits the head of a long- and thick-haired spider as it looks up - too late! - from Arbogast's struggling form, and then is lifted by Grimbeorn once more as he considers the mud-coloured beast he has already knocked clear.

Arbogast, his body stuck and stung and his helm still ringing with repeated blows, kicks and thrashes mightily, hoping against hope to wriggle his way free of the still-sticky threads that bind him.

:ooc: Arbogast is going to try an Athletics roll (TN 17) to free himself, 'cause yeah that's likely to work:
:00: 1d12 : 7, total 7
Rolled 2d6 : 6, 4, total 10

:ooc: Per the Core rules:

As long as a hero is Weary, all the Success dice he rolls for any test that end up giving a result of 1, 2 or 3 (the outlined numbers) are considered to have rolled a 0 instead.

I think I agree it is about armor and it should not be affected, but then again, is it about armor or being able to also dodge?

Esgalwen swings Nimronyn down again.

:ooc: Esgalwen's Parry should be 9 in  :-X-: Stance. I don't think she lost any :<3:.

:ooc: Wasn't the Parry bonus from her Skirmisher ability, which you suggested shouldn't apply?

Also - Matt?  Got an opinion on the Hope thing?

Also bulk of armor is factored into your fatigue rating which is what made you weary in the first place. So its not that it has no effect, I just think the dice themsleves shouldnt be treated as a skill check.

This is what I disagree with and why I asked. I can see any modifiers from Body lost due to weariness but why would the d6s in the protection test be less effective. They are based on the type of armor not the person wearing it. A body 3 person and a body 8 person receive the same protection dice from armor so its not agility. Why loose it when weary? This may be a mechanical effect of spiraling into death and defeat, but this rule as written makes no sense to me.

Also the weight is factored into the fatigue threshold which got you weary to begin with why is it effecting the quality or protective qualities of the armor.

:ooc: I agree, Tom... I just posted the RAW so we could see it as stated and make our ruling.

Paul - no, Skirmisher is not diminished in combat as long as she is in a combat stance. Her Shadow-bane trait is the one I was talking about, as it is only useful against creatures of Shadow. That was my question before - are Spiders considered creatures of Shadow?

[EDIT] Here is the answer per the book (I guess I should have gone here first) ;D

Shadow Bane
Your folk have suffered grievous losses during many wars against the Shadow. Even the passing of centuries cannot quell the bitter hate that your kindred harbour for the Enemy.

When you are fighting in a Forward stance (see page 172) against servants of the Shadow (including Spiders, Orcs, Trolls and Evil Men), add one Success die to all your attack rolls (up to a maximum of 6).

I am not going to worry about my total flubs in the last round, but I am going to roll the die for this round to see if it makes any difference.

Rolled 1d6 : 4, total 4

:ooc: Neither it is.  Sorry Doug - I've been a bit distracted.  Take three Endurance out of petty cash.

EDIT: Also, that four absolutely brings her total up to 10, which is all she needed to hit, and kill, the greenish spider.

:ooc: Oh wow! It does. I guess I need to brush up my math skills, too. ;D

I will return her to her current END level.

:ooc: Already done (at least in the OP).

Matt, I'm going to go with Grimbeorn not spending Hope, just to keep the game rocking along.

Spider flesh parts neatly before the keen edge of Nimronyn, ichor and greenish-grey guts spilling onto the sodden soil.  As the now-dead spider's more russet companion turns to face this new threat, a whistling hiss issuing from its mouth, Grimbeorn swings at the injured beast before him, serving only to make it dart away and then back.  The crunch and slurp as Hathcyn withdraws his spear from the transfixed flesh of the spider before him masks the soft sound of tearing silk as, with a roar of effort muffled by his own shield, Arbogast flexes weary arms and tears free from the strands that half-cocoon him.
