Title: Docking bay encounter - round 4
Post by: tomcat on Jan 01, 2011, 01:34 PM
Situation: Outside the docking bay environmental doors, the party is attacked by Hacks and are now confronted by the Sith assassin Shade, Fett and Corbin Sallo. Inside the bay, Kara is inside the Aegis.

Situational Modifiers: none

Physical Modifiers: There are crates and other debris available for cover that will deduct a -5 to all attacks made at anyone using cover.

Initiative:
Fett (+14) - 30
Kaida (+11) - 28
Shade (+13) - 19
Brim (+7) - 18
Britton (+9) - 18
Kara (+6) - 12
Sam (+6) - 11
Caden (+5) - 11
Ulric (+7) - 11
Hacks (+6) - 11
Sallo (+13) - 14 (even though he beat out Kara's init, the nat 1 gives hims a last position)

Fett defers his actions until Shade has gone; Sallo is still one round from the hangar door.

The lightsaber completes the cut and then disappears back into the door. The chamber outside Docking Bay 12D is suddenly quiet from all the blaster fire and explosions. It is eerie. Then, with a tremendous boom, the hole cut in the door is blasted open with the awesome power of the Force. The two inch thick disc cut from the door flies toward Caden and Brim, slamming into the disabled speeder by which the crouched.

Ulric heard the sounds, but felt the darkness that had come and was suddenly torn between finishing the clone and turning to confront the Shadow.

Shade stepped through the hole. Fett followed the darksider in and ignited his jet pack to fly to an advantageous position. He arced across the chamber and landed on the tail end of another stalled speeder. Boba quickly glanced around to take in the tactical situation. It was then that he saw Kaida maneuvering away from the others.

:ooc: Caden and Brim must make a Dexterity check against DC 12 or be hit by the door's shard and the wreckage it produces. If failed, the character will suffer 3d8 damage.

To complete his actions for this round, Shade steps through the hole. Fett follows the darksider through the door and ignites his jet pack to fly to an advantageous position. He arcs across the chamber and lands on the tail end of another stalled speeder. Boba quickly glances around to take in the tactical situation. It is then that he sees Kaida maneuvering away from the others.

:ooc: Is the ship able to be moved?  I might try to move it closer to the door...

:ooc: Yes, the bay has a very high-ceiling and it is wide for multiple landing pads, but the maneuverability is limited. The bay is intended for vertical lift offs, hover to the flight line and depart out of the energy screen. There are huge pipes and struts that come out of the ceiling but they are high up and will only become a challenge if you get real crazy with the flying.

To just maneuver around the bay requires a DC 12 Pilot test; if you need to do more maneuvers, that will go to a minimum of DC 20 Pilot test.

Kara took a deep breath and put her hands on the controls and prepared for her move.  She was going to try and swing the ship around so that ramp would be right next to where the environmental doors were.  She figured if she got the ship that close, the rest of her group would have a better chance to make it onto the ship, and make for a quicker escape.

"I'm moving the ship entrance ramp towards the environmental doors." she said into the comm system hoping Sam or one of the party would pick up her words.

The Aegis lifted off vertically and Kara took her up 10 meters off the flight deck. Once she was sure that she had the Loronar safely above (and below) any obstructions, she advanced the ship to the flight line, but then gave it reverse thrusters bringing it back to just where the environmental doors were sealed. The forward end of the vessel was oriented to make a quick jet down the flight line and out into space.

The hangar deck was washed by her maneuvering thrusters and people ran in all directions to get out from under the moving explorer. Curses were shouted as freight was knocked over or blown about, but Kara could not hear from inside the cockpit. She positioned the port-side landing ramp to be as close as possible to the hole that had been cut in the door, but did not yet lower it. Sallo was still out there and she did not need him climbing on board. Instead, she would wait to hear a reply from her companions and keep an eye on the flight deck via the explorer's port and starboard cameras and sensors. These systems were multi-functional in the Loronar's basic function of exploration, but were now proving a godsend in their current predicament.

:ooc: Okay, Gregg has left town to go on mission with his church, so Britton will now be an NPC until he returns. I am either going to fade him into the background, or send him off on his own thing, and once Gregg returns, we can see where our story is - but that is a year from now so again, we'll see.

Brim and Caden act before the following PC's but I am going to go ahead and perform their actions. We are just coming off the holidays so I will give them time to login, but I will do their actions for them by tomorrow evening or Tuesday.

Knowing that there was more danger behind him then before, Ulric knew he needed to end the melee with the clone quickly. He reached out his arm and unleashed a terrible wave of Force energy. Hacks, standing within the small maintenance corridor had no escape. Like a tidal wave, the energy struck him and slammed him back into the conduit and pipes. His body broke in multiple places and the veteran trooper fell to the floor dead.

Ulric quickly turned and moved to face the new threat - a presence of darkness that he had not felt since the end of the war.

On the opposite side of the environmental door, Sallo moved cautiously trying to get to the hole that Shade had cut. Unfortunately, the looming presence of the Aegis was there and though its lower turret had yet to traverse, he did not want to call attention to himself. He activated his stealth armor and moved between the crates.

Shade feels the presence of Britton behind him as he fires his blaster. The dark-sider turns, bringing up his saber, and knocks the blaster bolts harmlessly away.

:ooc: Okay, that is it for this round save Caden and Brim. I will give them until tomorrow and then I will post for them and move on the battle.

Sam here's the sickening crunch of the Clone in the confines of the closet and turns to the new threats his sensors picked up. He fired on the run at the jetpacker before ducking for cover. Suddenly he was at the rear of this fight.

Hearing the ignition of the jet pack, Kaida glanced behind her, and seeing the armored bounty hunter as well as the darksider's flashing red blade, she changed plans. Ducking low to avoid any shots, she sped in a crouch between the land speeder and the heavy lifter. She hoped Ulric would be able to deal with this foe.

:ooc: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!

Kaida will do a double move for her move and standard action so that she ends up to the square just "east" of Sam behind the red heavy lifter. For her Swift action she'll activate her Inspire Haste on Ulric again.

... and narrowly avoided being crushed between it and the speeder. Now without any cover, he rolled and remained prone while attempting to aim his blaster at the Dark Jedi.

Brim squeezed off a shot. He doubted it would do much but hopefully he could keep the Dark Jedi busy until help arrived.

:ooc: Wouldn't the darksider just roll an attack against the REF defense to hit? That way chars wouldn't have to roll anything. Just curious.

Btw, how long is Gregg going to be away on his church mission?

DEX Check (DC 12):
Roll(1d20)+2: 4,+2 Total:6 - FAIL

:ooc: Oh, crap. Assuming I understand the rules correctly, I can use one Force Point, and only one, to try and make this roll, right? Which means I have to hit a six on a 1D6 roll to avoid becoming landspeeder pizza?

:ooc: Yea, Shawn, unfortunately in SW you can only use one - not like in CODA.

I am including two rolls - one for your Force Point, and the other for damage... you may take them or roll your own, but you can't accept mine if you choose to roll your own.  ;)

Rolled 1d6 : 6, total 6

Rolled 3d8 : 4, 1, 4, total 9

Also, like Brim, you have all of your actions still once you make the roll.

And to Jingo, I thought about a roll against their Reflex defense but it was never an intended attack from Shade - more that the two PC's were in the direct line of the blown out door. So, they must test themselves to get out of the way. I did read the attributes section of the SW CRB, and there is nothing in there about testing an Attribute (unlike in CODA and most other games I play), but I went with it anyway.

Back to Shawn, give me your rolls here and I will finish this round

To Don, a Nat 20 is an auto hit -and- it does double damage, so Fett takes 26. He is moved down the Condition Track to -1 (I am using a younger version of BF off of the Wizards of the Coast forums site, then the one in the CRB).

Lastly, let me know if I have your PC positioned where you intended. I will correct the map if need be.

Shade attempts to Deflect Brim
(http://rpg.avioc.org/boards/Themes/default/images/dice_a.gif) DC 23 Use the Force +15, Unaware of the attack -5*, MAP -5
*I am only penalizing Shade for this in this round due to him just walking into a firefight and having attackers all around, so do not expect it in the next

And Shade takes a blaster hit from Brim for 7 damage  :csu:, and I updated Boba's character sheet too  :csu:

:ooc: Hmm. Let me think about that for a momentYES! (-D

Caden heard the door whiz by his body and crunch into the speeder with a ear-splitting groan of metal. His eyes wide, he had to compose himself for a moment - it was inches from where he had stood.

He scrambled for what cover he could find behind the speeder's wreckage and started to fire at the flashing red saber.

 Action 1 - Move to nearest Cover behind wrecked speeder.

 Action 2 - Fire at Shade: Blaster pistol +5, Weapon focus +1 Kaida's bonus +1 = Total +7
Roll(1d20)+7:15,+7 Total:22
