Ramos walked towards the entrance to Engineering and he could immediately see his crewmen milling about all looking for an answer or a reason.

An ensign walked up to the Chief Engineer, "Sir, Specialist Callahan has secured himself in the Warp Core room and has overridden all security protocols on the bulkheads. We have been trying to communicate with him but he hasn't responded."

Down in Engineering, Ramos had already had men and women gathering cutting equipment to get into the bulkhead. But first, he thought something was worth a try...

Thumbing the comm toggle, he spoke in the hopes that the crewman had not cut off communications as well. "This is Chief Engineer Ramos. We see that you are trapped and are coming to help you. Can you assist us?"

"I am s... sorry sir, but I can't allow you to enter the reactor room. I need to keep the chamber safe! If I find that anyone is trying to get in here, I will... I will eject the core!" Ramos could hear tension in the young man's voice – but the sound was frightening. The man was not in his right mind and right now he could cripple the Columbia and trap them all here, possibly for ever!

As he stood there thinking, Juan saw movement in his peripheral vision. He turned to see Grahm approaching... he held a phaser in his hand and was accompanied by one of his men.

"Juan," said the Tactical Officer, "we gotta make sure this guy doesn't harm the ship. She's going to need it."

"There are about 10 EVA suits on board here captain... we are up to 30 people," answered Lt. Williams.

As Darkan listened to his crewman, the turbolift doors to the bridge opened and out strode two of the ship's security officers – all held a drawn phaser.

"Captain!" shouted the lead crewman as he stood erect and aimed his phaser. "You will immediately relinquish command... to her Highness, the Princess Isaboul of Tau Hydrae!"

As if summoned by his words, Isaboul and two of her ladies then stepped from the turbolift, a smile upon her face. She spoke with a soothing, sensual voice, "Captain... I hear that my ship has become disabled - permanently, yes? Well, I will be needing a ship... and I think that this ship will suit my needs."

The smile never left her face as she gazed into Darkan's eyes and Steve felt sudden conflict in his thoughts. The air was thick with tension of the moment and was also becoming filled with the Hydraen female's bio-chemical snare.

Tam heard the doors to his lab open – he was just under two hours until completion of the antidote to the Hydraen's affect on the crew. He looked up to see a Security crewmen standing before him with a weapon in his hand.

"Doctor... I must request that you stop all activity in your current experiment. I have orders to destroy all your test material and computer data."

Stonn was perplexed - which for a Vulcan, was quite disconcerting.
He had no intention of surrendering the Columbia, but he felt overcome by... desire? Lust? Even Stonn couldn't tell. All he could comprehend was his uncertainty, the loss of his sensibilities, and somewhere - buried deep within - concern that the same thing was happening all over the ship...

Ramos had an idea. He hated to lie to a shipmate, but he could play a hunch, and tell the addled crewman that one of the Hydraen women needed to see him... and then he remembered Grahm - and his phaser.
"Tam," he thought. He needed to find Tam...

He nodded to the cutting team - they were still prepared, but they would hold until he ordered them to proceed.

"Mr. Grahm," he asked innocently. "I understand her need for the vessel, but we can't control it effectively while the warp core is sealed. Certainly you understand... I need to consult briefly with Dr. Tam. Psychology isn't my specialty," he offered sheepishly.
"I'm an engineer, not a doctor."

Grahm nodded back in agreement, "Yea, you are right! We have to make sure that the crewman doesn't harm the ship, but I have one problem. I don't think Dr. Tam is going to aid us int this. He has been tinkering with some kind of innoculation of sorts - supossedly that will stop us from..."

Grahm's voice faded off and his face became puzzled as he tried to understand what the doctor was trying to complete, but then his face cleared as the thought of Lijeea came to him.

"Anyway, I have sent a man to stop his tests and destroy his data. Certainly one of Dr. Tam's staff will be able to help us with this situation. Come let's go get Dr. Chang." Then to his two guards, "You stay here and help the engineers with anything they may need until I get back. Come on Juan!"

Recognizing who this was, Tam attempted to talk him down. "Well, hello Chris. Now, I understand what you were sent here to do, but I don't think it's what you really want, is it? The research I'm doing, it's going to make it possible for you to see Kathy [the name I just made up for that "young lady" ;-)] again. You remember Kathy, right? I know that she misses you, and you miss her, and I know that you want to be able to see her again. So why don't you just put the weapon down and let me finish my work, so that you and Kathy can be together again and get married like you'd planned."

If I can't confuse him enough to put down the weapon, I'll at least try to confuse him enough to let me get near him and smack him with a hypospray loaded with a stun agent. Unfortunately, I'm on my way out of town again (until next Tuesday, this time) so you'll have to make those rolls for me, feel free to use any Courage that'll help to make sure I can try to disarm this guy.]

Quote from: GandalfOfBorgOOC: How much control do her words have over Darkan?

Darkan is not necessarily controlled by her, it is more a very strong desire to want to do her bidding. The pheromones that these women emit cause the males to desire them uncontrollably and thus become very susceptible to suggestion. A man would want to do anything to get the Hydraen females approval and affection, even if it contradicts their own moral values, or orders, or whatever. That is why you are seeing confusion in many of the other characters that are acting 'outside' their norm.

As far as Darkan goes, he has been more trouble to Isaboul because of his constant resistance to her 'suggestions'. So instead, she is excusing you. This could possibly be worse for a man as he is being rejected and scorned - the women of his dreams is telling him to go away. So RP it how you want with this stuff in mind. I actually like that Darkan is mad and frustrated - it gives the impression that he is torn between his command, his own Mia, and this invasive desire that he neither wants but can't control.

Quote from: GandalfOfBorgOOC: Does the ship have automatic voice interface like in TNG or does it require manual activation?

The ship has a voice recognition system that it will use for any capital commands (i.e. self-destruct) but it is manually activated through consoles. If I am wrong here and anyone knows more to help me, feel free to post it. As far as TNG technology, the ship is obviously not there yet.

Darkan bristled.  This was his ship!  No one, especially this woman, would tell him what do while he was in command, but still he couldn't help himself.  Almost as a reflex, Darkan pressed a couple of buttons on the arm console of the command chair and Darkan spat out, "Computer, lock out all function and overrides for helm and weapon control.  Darkan Alpha-Omega-0-0."

Turning back to the princess, "There you, can have my ship, for all the good it will do you."

Just below the bridge, running the entire height of the Columbia's structure was the ship's computer core filled with tens of thousands of duotronic circuits. The ship's 'brain' recognized Darkan's voice and the command authorization code and in moments began to send signals through the ship's optical data network to the many stations that the command affected.

Pushkin had been watching the exchange between the captain and the Hydraen princess the moment she entered but he turned away as his helm console beeped and then went blank. The ship's nav and helm were now locked to any access without the proper command to override the captain. The effect was throughout the ship as redundant stations began reporting in that they had just been 'locked out' of their controls. The Columbia continued on its course that it had been on, moving at steerage speed only.

But the computer was programmed to protect the life forms upon the ship and though it did not have truly independent thought, it did scour the most recent sensor scans and made minor course alterations to assure the Columbia did not run into anything.

Not completely understanding what Darkan had just done, but perturbed nonetheless, Isaboul spoke through tight lips. "You may go to your quarters, Captain... your presence here is no longer necessary."

As the princess spoke, her entourage and the Golayshian's captain all went about the bridge to take up key positions. Lijeea stode over to Townshend's station and looked down at her, "I will be tending communications from now on."

To this, Townshend stood with a huff and began to move towards the turbolift not looking at any of the others on the bridge.

Tam watched as Chris Patrel's face became clouded with indecision. "Sir... I mean Doctor... you don't understand. She needs the ship and the Hydraen woman, Ashanta, she said that if I helped out... well..."

The ensign's face turned red as Tam stood looking at him. It was then that the doctor noticed one of his colleagues slowly approaching the security officer from behind, a hypo in her hand.

Darkan shrugged. "You're right, my presence is no longer needed here," he says simply.  This was an act of piracy, a futile one, but he was not going to let them get away with it that easily.  He stands next to the turbolift door, waiting for the rest of the bridge crew to enter it and then joining them once all are inside.

Seeing their captain waiting by the doors, the bridge crew quickly vacated their respective stations and hurried to the turbolift. Some were confused as to what was going on having never been affected by the Hydraen pheromone, some felt as if they had just betrayed the Princess for a cause that was not theirs.

Pushkin was one of these - he had felt a terrible hollowness as he looked at Ashanta to follow his captain off the bridge. He was the helmsman, they would need him... but his duty! He was an officer in Starfleet on the U.S.S. Columbia under the command of Captain Steven Darkan! These thoughts continued to conflict in his mind as the image of the blonde, green-eyed Ashanta overcame all others.

Some of the bridge crew looked at Mr. Stonn. The Vulcan had said nothing and had also been acting strange. What was going on?

"What are we going to do Captain?" came a question from the crowd within the turbolift - all the while it carried them down.

Ramos was seeing evidence that the Hydraen females had visited many areas of the ship. As he and Grahm walked the corridors towards the Sickbay, they passed dreamy-eyed crewmen who were not attending to their duties. There were men squabbling over who was the one 'she' had shown interest and there were human females who were acting like Townhsend - short-tempered and uninterested in what was going on about them.

But the Engineer also saw crewmen that were not 'infected' - they had questioning looks on their faces and when the two officers passed, some asked for answers. "Sir, I am not getting any response from my station. We have been locked out of ship's geometry config and have no reason why. What is going on?"

Before Ramos could answer, Grahm spoke up. "Routine crewman. You'll get further instruction soon enough. Don't worry about anything though, all is in good hands."

"But sir, we are not getting any answers from the bridge," was the statement from the crewman that followed after as the two officers continued on their way.

The ensign's face turned red as Tam stood looking at him. It was then that the doctor noticed one of his colleagues slowly approaching the security officer from behind, a hypo in her hand.

Locking eyes with his nurse only very briefly, Tam immediately turned his attention back to Crewman Patrel. "Think about it though, Chris... is that what you really want? What would Kathy say if she found out that you were doing things like this for another woman, because of her promises? You really don't want to go through with this, do you?"

As soon as the hypospray makes contact and the crewman drops to the deck, Tam jumps into action. "Computer, initiate a full emergency quarantine of the medical laboratories immediately, complete lockdown mode. Ensure that the lockdown cannot be overrode by any authority except for my own."

"Tam to Captain Darkan. Medical emergency in the medical laboratories. One of our experiments has gotten out of hand and breached containment. We're looking at a possibly fatal contagion that has the ability to breach our EVA suits. I've locked down the medical labs until we can get this under control and I recommend keeping all non-quarantined personnel at least 50 meters from this area, as a safety precaution. The contagion has an onset time of approximately 4 hours, so I don't have a lot of time to waste, my team and I have to get working on a cure right away. We'll be back in contact with you when we're closer to a cure."

With that taken care of, he turned to his team. "Okay people. It's now clear that our timeline is being shortened even more. We need a cure for this, and we need it now. The bad news is that we're under a tighter deadline now. The good news is that we now instead of just computer simulations, we have a live specimen to work with," gesturing to Crewman Patrel, "so hopefully that should help us shave off a bit of time. Lets get to work, and get this thing under control."

And with that, they all set to work with renewed fervor.
