Title: Along the Watchtower - round 1 (surprise)
Post by: tomcat on Dec 21, 2011, 07:39 PM
Situation: A garrison of Dugs (5 - 1 is captain) and Grans (16) bar the passage of a valley turn and must be engaged.

Physical Modifiers: -5 penalty to all PC's action rolls due to darkness, unless they have natural or equipment low-light vision. This penalty will go away after round 5 (yes, I know rounds are 6 seconds and there is a bit of time until the sun rises, but things go slow in PbP games).

MOVE - moves out six squares to gain firing position on the blind

The missile from Fett's jetpack flew true and there was little that the startled Gran gunner could do as he watched it fly right into the E-Web. Maybe it was the large blaster's power pack or just the missile's warhead itself, but the top of the tower blew up in a crash of noise and light. Even as Boba Fett moved out from his cover to gain a firing position on the snipers, the light from the tower top faded with no sign of the gun or its gunner remaining.

:ooc: The missile did a great 36 points of damge to both the E-Web and its gunner.

The mercenary had 32 hit points (15 threshold) and so was blown off the tower top, dead. The E-Web had 10 points of DR and 20 hit points (30 threshold), causing the missile's damage to first be reduced to 26, which was enough points to disable it (the gun's Threshold was not overcome, so it could still be repaired).

Bottom line, so much for the tower gun!  ;)

Also, as far as the map goes, the K is where Kaida is observing the tower area. All other PC's are behind her and must count at least 1 square in their MOVE actions to move up to where Kaida is and enter the map - make sense?

Kaida saw the resulting explosion and winced. It was on. There was no turning back now.

"Nice of you to fill us in on your little plan, Fett!" She growled. For a moment, she thought about tracing the trail of the rocket to where he would be and lining up her sights on him and squeezing the trigger just to preempt a future problem. As far as she was concerned, the galaxy wasn't big enough for both of them. "You know, a little more coordination and communication on your part would go a long way." What the blazes was he thinking, going off on his own? The idiot was going to get them all killed!

Then she ignored him, putting him out of her mind. Time to get her game face on.

"Alright team, light them up. Snipers are priority. Stay low, use cover. Let's do this."

Seeing the E-web gunner reduced to flaming bits, she shifted her sights to one of the snipers, and squeezed the trigger.

:ooc:
Standard: Since she had been aiming at the tower, she shifts her target and shoots at the closest Gran sniper.
Blaster Carbine Single Shot 1d20+7 : 17 + 7, total 24
.
Damage if Hits 3d8+3 : 1, 5, 7 + 3, total 16

Swift: Activates Born Leader. So from tactics roll and her talent, any team member within her LOS get +2 to attack this encounter.
Move: She'll remain hidden where she is and will give up her Move as another swift action to start aiming on the same target if it's still up. Or she'll shift to the next available sniper target if not.

:ooc: Great posts so far, guys! I like Farok's attitude and love that Kaida is ready to bury Fett! Remember though, hate the NPC, not the GM who runs him!  ;D

As for Kaida's attack results, the Gran takes 16/32 damage (1 over threshold and so reduced 1 step to -1)

Inside the watchtower, the few Gran guards that had been sleeping through the night were rudely awakened by the explosion and then the sound of blaster fire. They fell from their cots as they tried to get their bearings and understand what was happening.

One level below, BIT felt as the strength of the Gran he held pinned to the bars slowly faded and the three-eyed alien slid backwards to thump onto the cobbled stone ground.

On the second level of the tower, the Dug Mercenary Captain clambered back to his feet, all the while shaking his head. There was nothing but a ringing in his ears from the explosion, and his eyes were unable to focus due to the bright flash that had filled them. Thank the gods that the tower stucture had held against the overpressure of the explosion, otherwise he would have been dead for certain crushed under the broken stonework.

For many diverse reasons Farok wanted to let the Bounty Hunter charge at the tower all on his own.  He was pretty sure that was going to be his plan until Kaida moved out from behind the cover towards the fighting positions. He threw off his cowl and looked at Logar. His lightsaber was in his hand again and on.

"You're crazy enough. Let's close the distance. Ride me in on the speeder and I'll try and block the blaster attacks with my lightsaber."

"None too soon," BIT grinned, "Now for a little unexpected surprise."  The prisoner pulls the guard over and grabs for the keys and his weapon (2 move actions).

:ooc: Sorry Don.  :(

Matt - the guard does not have a weapon. Your calls for food rousted him out of bed and he came down with nothing except keys.

The rounds from Sam's burst tore into the lower side of the blind ripping holes and sending splinters flying, but neither Gran was harmed.

BIT pulled the Gran closer to the bars to get at the keys that hung from his belt. The alien made weak gestures with its arms in an attempt to resist, but already BIT could see purple spots where internal bleeding had begun. The key ring pulled free and the slicer opened the door. Above him he heard the commotion of the other guards dealing with whomever had attacked. Across from BIT, sitting in a pile was all of his things scattered about - the Dug's had rummaged his pack. Fortunately, they found little of his equipment of use including the weapons.

:ooc: Hey John, you actually rolled a 17 - you get the +2 from Kaida's Born Leader ability.

Hey Tom, it would appear that John missed your post. Feel free to make a new set of actions or direct it at another PC - Caden and Brim still need to act.

Jared - yea, I know, Kaida has made no moves from her position.

The two Grans in the nest take full damage from Logar's burst with a 17 roll.

The added hail of fire on the sniper blind began to tear apart the wooden platform and the tree trunk it wrapped around. The two Gran snipers were not so lucky taking formidable damage.

More to come in the next round...

With the snipers distracted by Sam and Logar's blaster fire, and as Fett had been able to make quick work of the cannon, Brim made up his mind to rush the tower. "I'm going in, Kaida. Farok, you with me?"

:ooc:Brim is going to run a straight line from A10 to the door of the tower [Double move... 8 squares / move. Not sure if opening a door is a free action... but if it is, Brim will enter in. If locked, the Rodian will attempt to use his lightsaber to open the door. He will ignite his lightsaber when he get to the door.

Farok saw his companions run into the open and having no skill at driving the speeder or a free hand to do so he had very few choices. Memories arose of his times in the  open sands of Tatoonie raiding with the locals against the thugs and mercenaries of the drug bosses. Looking over the terrain and the situation it was not so different. Farok looked at the tower and set his eyes on the door. That's where he needed to go and he needed to get their fast. Farok began to run towards the tower screaming at the top of his lungs, "NAZARA JINN, DAHAMA FEDAYKIN!!!" His light saber swung in broad sweeping arcs above his head making an eerie swooshing sound as he yelled and ran at the tower.

(look to your gods the Fedaykin attack, or near enough.)

:ooc: Doug, Full Round action Run. move at 4x my speed straight along line number 10 towards the door.

"Gotchya. Sam, Logar, Caden, give them covering fire! Keep the snipers busy!"

:ooc: Apologies. The holiday madness finally came to an end out here...

Caden will do as Kara suggested; provide covering fire, preferably from as hidden a place as he can find while staying close to his mates.
