MASS COMBAT |
:~~: | One of the Woodmen is slain. If rolled again in the following round, Lafdag is gravely wounded. |
1 - 3 | The allies are hard-pressed to hold the enemy back. One of the Woodmen is wounded – or, if any are already wounded, then one of them is slain. |
4 - 6 | The Woodmen hold their line and keep fighting. |
7 - 9 | The allies fight bravely, pushing the enemy back. Basilisk blood spills into the dell. If this result is rolled twice in a row, then the allies slay one of the basilisk! |
10 | One of the basilisk is slain. |
:g: | Two of the basilisks are slain. |

The Woodmen see the companions strike grievous wounds into the lizards and so they, too, rally in attack. Taking the monster from either side, the two men hacked with their axes and delivered a fatal blow. The basilisk's body fell to the forest floor, its blood erupting from where its head had been.
Esgalwen raised her sword again to strike the death blow on the other beast. Her arms and hands tingled. They seemed heavier. Nimronyn followed her command to raise up and slash down, but the Ranger knew something was wrong.

The basilisk shifted towards Esgalwen even as she swung, bringing its thick hide to the fore to defend itself. The Elven-runed sword hit hard, and the monster snarled in pain, but it came loose from her grip. Esgalwen's hands were not opening or closing the way they should - unable to keep a tight hold. She could barely raise up her arms at all, and her legs wanted to give out from under her.
What was wrong?
Nimronyn disappeared into the fog and thudded onto the leaf-covered forest floor. With eyes slowly fogging, the Dúnadan staggered in the direction of her weapon.
:ooc: kind of cool how the dice emulate the story's plot twists. With a successful protection test, the basilisk's tough hide causes the dropping of a weapon - which would seem apropos due to Esgalwen succumbing to the poison.
Grimbeorn is surprised by the reaction of Esgalwen, concerned with her loss of weapon and staggering after it. He does whatever he can to make sure she's alright, letting none of their enemy near her. In turn, his ferocity increases against the creature before him.

Morirúsë slide to the right and behind the wyrm that he fought. It was loosing lots of blood and he thought to catch it in the swing of his sword instead of the main thrust, though the fatigue was setting in upon him. The first blow of the wyrm was well landed and he hoped to be rid of them soon.
"Woodmen! Your axes are sharp! Now! Now strike!"
:ooc: Morirúsë will attack B1. He will be using his Wrath of Fingolfin ability to Intimidate Foe from a forward or Open stance and still make an attack, he will also be using his sword two handed.

The moon bright blade fell down upon the beast slashing its hide while the long sharp edge continued to slice into the haunch of the other beast taking its legs out from under it.

Arbogast has to step back to avoid the basilisk's deceptively quick bite, and Morirúsë's subsequent blow. As the blood spills, oil-black in the moonlight, from one of the creatures, he lashes out at its companion - hoping that this time, no tricks of the forest spoil his aim.
