Arrows fly to and fro as Esgalwen turns to face her pursuers and the remaining three companions rise from the water.  There is a splash as Williferd falls face-foward into the cold water, but Oderic and Tate have blades in hand.  Tate sees a nearby archer drawing a bead on him and raises his shield...

:ooc: One blood moon archer is firing at Esgalwen, the other at Tate:

... but with his footing unsure, the effort throws him off balance and he feels the impact of the arrow in his belly.  The pain is dull, so it has not penetrated his armour, though he knows that he will have a fine bruise there tonight if he lives through the next few terrifying minutes.

The shot of Esgalwen's pursuer is barely aimed, and flies far over her head.  The hounds are closing in, their baying and barking set aside as they come closer by the second.

:ooc: The riverside archer spends a point of Hate to add his attribute level to the damage from his bow.

Doug, Esgalwen has a single opening volley.

The dogs were charging in quickly and would be on her before long. Esgalwen knew she could fight them, but not if the Toft-man's arrows rained down. He was the priority.

She drew back her bow-string, fletching to cheek and let it fly.

No sooner had the shaft left her bow, the Ranger skillfully let fall the weapon and grabbed for Nimronyn, poised easily for her grasp.

All she heard was the scream of pain that came from the archer, her focus now on the two animals that raced to attack.

Her sword felt good in her hand, its pommel offering a comfort she had not felt in some time. Esgalwen lifted Nimronyn high over her head, in a two-handed stance and waited for the first hound.

:ooc: Going into the first round of combat, Esgalwen will take on an Open stance. Tate will stay Defensive as he tries to get out of the water and reeds.

The Toft-man's bow drops from his fingers as he clamps both hands to the shaft now deeply embedded in his chest.  His knees buckle and he falls to the cold, damp earth.  The hounds, all unknowing of this, close the last few yards as Esgalwen raises high her sword.
