Guys, how do you prefer we proceed to keep up the speed of the game ? I guess that some of us may not be able to answer as quickly as others, and I'm totally ok with that. However I'd like to keep the game going and not hinder the game of anyone.
So I thought I could answer in place of a character should his player be too busy to answer within a couple of days. Of course I won't take any important decision or endanger the life of the character ;)
How would you feel about that ?
As Tom's signature says, "THE GAME MUST GO ON!"
I am fine with you doing whatever is necessary as Loremaster to maintain the pace you want to keep. I have no problem if you speak for Garulf, have him do something necessary to advance the story, or whatever - as long, of course, as it stays within the character's personality and habits.
I always caveat my LM posts for my players with the right for them to ask it changed or rescinded if they feel it is not their PC's nature, but the story can at least keep moving.
Works for me.
Also, if the LM does the lore and fatigue tests as part of the post for everyone it will keeps the travel from getting bogged down.
That seems fine by me as well, keeps the pace going. I'm holding off to let other characters in the Edoras scene do stuff before I post again.
Nashan,
Looking at my characters Virtue he has Friendly and Inquisitive. If I am reading that right invoking Folk Lore and Courtesy with our encounter with the Illegal Immigrants into Rohan (joke) should earn Raghnall an advancement point. Am I reading that virtue right, and if not how does it work to you as the LM?
:ooc: I am not this game's LM, but that is how I am reading it. You don't mark a advancement bullet, you directly add it to your available Advances.
That is a cool Virtue!
Let's see if Nashan agrees.
I dont want to munchkin the rule, just want to be clear on how it works. The invoking a trait bit has me a little puzzled.
When you invoke a trait dont you forfiet the roll for an auto success?
:ooc: I am not seeing anything that states that you need roll. At a game table, I think the virtue would be fine as we usually would only see one Encounter per session, but in PbP - Nashan will definitely want to limit the number of times it can be used per Adventure Phase.
I'll check in my book when I'll be back home but in my understating, the first point is gained when you succeed a roll, the second with a greater success and the third with an exceptional success OR success reinforced with a trait. Thus I believe a roll always has to be made. I'll confirm that later.
I often give the opportunity to make a roll even if a trait grants you an automatic success in the case you get Tengwar. You cannot fail that roll in any case, even if you score a Sauron.
I added in my previous experience to my character sheet.
1 Lore, 1 Battle, 1 Courtesy, 1 Travel, 1 Explore, +1 in Search and 2 in Stealth.
Nash,
Correct. However this is a Virtue and functions differently.
My bad. That's what you get from reading posts too fast. I've checked and I see no restriction, it works every time there's an encounter. So yes you can add an AP.
Sorry for jumping in here.
I find that some of the Virtues for the Dunlendings and Men of Bree are more powerful than the other cultures. Then I remember that they also have one less Attribute Point than most cultures, abysmal hope pools (seriously... 6+H?!?!), and fairly low endurance pools. Seems a little better balanced then.
I agree. Breelanders are just not fit for adventure (-D
Hey! I resemble that statement!

You shouldn't. Bree is my favorite supplement, I just love the way they described the city and its citizens, never before has there been a mood so well rendered. If I wasn't playing on the other side of Mirkwood, I would have played a Breelander <3
I attached a PC stat block template on the Character Sheets thread's opening post.
If you want to use it, do the following:
- download and open the txt file
- select all
- open your character post, or reply with a new one
- paste the template
- fill in your character details
I updated the Character drop-down above to include the quick link to Hurcheon's character
Any advice on how to copy the layouts in character sheets and paste, I've tried but it keeps throwing the formatting out the window.
Create a post in the characters thread with your PC name in the body and I will put in the Stat format.
Thanks Tom!
Once done, I will get him listed on the drop down menu, too.
Name posted in Character section.
Stat template pasted and you are now linked on the drop down.

Thanks for that man !
We should probably pick party roles.
Yeah I posted OOC in the thread but I can take the role of scout or look out - Lookout - Awareness 2, Keen Eyed. Scout - Explore 2, favoured and Keen Eyed.
Courtesy and Insight are my beat skills.
I will take the role of Guide, as I have a Travel (favoured) 2 and my traits are Rohan-lore and Enemy-lore (Orcs)
I think those will serve us if we run into trouble.
We will soon welcome a new player ^_^
So far he's been playing on my tabletop campaign and considering his dedication and general lore of the setting, I asked him to join us.
He's gonna play a Rohir nobleborn !
Okay guys, the website software was updated last night at 1AM and I am still working on getting it modded to the way I had it before the upgrade.
That said, the PhP coding has changed with this new version (as you can see in the buttons when you post) and I am still figuring it out.
All the main menu buttons work, they are just ugly at the moment until I figure out how to remove the 'question mark' icons.
We no longer have the dice buttons in the posting menu, but we do have the functionality. So - we can no longer hit the button and get the BBC code template that we then just fill in our dice numbers, BUT the code still works.
So, if you want to do an in-post dice roll, you just need to type it all out now. I give an example below:
[ro11]{:00:}1d12,2d6[/ro11]
If you want to have the details like I used to have for our TOR die roll button, it would be:
TN -- skill --
[ro11]{:00:}[/ro11]
:dmg: edge: injury:
**In both codes above, the l's in the word roll are 1's, so be sure to change them if you cut and paste.
I am still working on getting the buttons back, but it should all work now! I will keep you apprised, or you will see the changes.
Thanks for that ! On the other hand, I also notice that quick reply now has some nice shortcuts for fonts and stuff
Seeing as I have yet to get any insight from the SMF modders on the Simple Machines forums on how to add new buttons within the POST screen for our dice roller code, I have made a quick solution.
Under RESOURCES in the main menu is a new option to click called DICE FORMATS. If you click this, it will open a new window text file that contains the simple BBC code necessary to do a quick fill dice format.
Because the main menu is always visible (unless you are using Quick Reply - then you will have to scroll up), it will be easily available while you are making a post. So what you will do is click the link which opens the new window; select the roller format you want and copy/paste into your post. You will fill in the dice information from there, but it will function upon clicking post.
Okay everyone - it looks like I finally have all of my tasks figured out and the buttons have been returned.
The only thing I am still working on is getting the Profiler back in place!! Here is hoping that can be resolved.
I like how it looks. Nice job !
Nashan,
Waiting on you buddy.
Well - we have characters and players, but no LM.
Does anyone want to take up the mantle of Loremaster and carry this game forward?
Guys,
If you are still interested in playing I will take up the reigns and at least get us through this story. Give me a day or two to get caught up with the who and where and figure out where this was going and I'll get a post up.
Gentlemen,
I am sorting through a couple of things and trying to push the curtain back on a couple of things our narrate threw out there, but I don't know where they were going to go.
Question: What type of campaign are you all looking for?
explore middle earth?
explore the cultural and area of Rohan?
GO through the adventures in the book?
Goals or aspirations?
Any comments or thoughts will help me shape this.
Also, if you are still interested in the game please respond here. Anyone who I don't hear from I will write out, and if we don't get enough people interested I will just archive the story and put it in the vault.
I am interested in continuing - not sure we have the other players anymore.
As for what type of game - whatever you want to bring. We can move through the campaign book as well as add other little tidbits along the way, or you can create whatever you would like.
I just don't want to have to come up with a new character.
Doug,
I am away this weekend, but I will get a post up next week to move the story along. I have some ideas for the adventures of Garulf and Raghnall.
:) Hello, I am still interested in continuing.
Many thanks
Steve
I am going to send out a PM to Andrew (Egilhir) and see if he is still along for the ride.
That will give us three solid characters and the GM NPC.
Yea, Andy is still in, so the Dol Amroth Knight will still be with us.
Im at my semi annual world war one re-enactment event this weekend, but I will have something up next week to move our story along.
Hello, thanks for the PM on facebook.
I'll have a post up soon. i am working out how we can mechanically and thematically search for a homeland.
Tom, unless the female and her clan is integral to some campaign story arc, I have no problem if we narratively remove her and her folk from a new story.
Just my $OO
Hi
Not Tyrok Here, when things went quiet a month ago my work exploded, so I haven't paid as much attention to this. I saw that the game seemed to go into abeyance, and that the LM went missing
Not sure what to do now that effectively a new game has started and I have missed the start of it
Best of luck to you
I am picking up where we left off and at the same time trying to figure put what story we are trying to tell. Soo jump right in.
Hey guys, still going to
Move this along. I am in the middle of a house move and my annual military service is the next few weeks. We'll return to Rohan soon.
Tom, are you going to do something with this game or should I send it to the forgotten stories?
should be back at this soon.
Sorry for the long delay guys. I have had a lot going on and I have been having some difficulty in setting the time aside to breathe life into someone else's introduction. I have posted a new post below, and I have an idea of where the story may go. I will be attempting to set this up a little like a sandbox. I'll present you guys with some options or leads and you can pick where you want to go.
This will not be your everyman's Rohan. For one this is not the end of the reign of Theoden, it is the beginning of the reign of Thengel and the herioc virtues those two kings have attempted to instill and recall in their people are just beginning and more than a generation away. Furthermore, I would like to breathe life and depth into Rohan. To do so I will ne drawing upon the Anglo Saxons and myhti Britain to provide the details. The themes will be adult without being vulgar or crass as we attempt to make this a living place that steps from Tolkien's stories, and not merely to mimic them. Orcs will still be decidedly villainous but the actions of men will not be cut and dry and we may encounter elements of slavery and brutality. If anyone has an issue please let me know.
So let's see who we still have in the game and let's get going.
Welcome to Rohan.
I might be interested in this. A couple of questions:
1) How soon until you hope to get this game going?
2) Are you looking for just Rohirrim, or are outside cultures "welcome"?
Peace,
Ayrn
This is a game that is currently in progress, the original Loremaster Master left and I took up the reigns to at least finish the story.
AH! I see.
Well, if you need someone to jump into the sandbox with you later, I have this Shieldmaiden of Rohan idea floating in my head.
Peace,
Ayrn
