Celdrahil nodded, "Edrahil spoke much the same of you last night. The bickering of Nobles has long plagued the men of the west to the expense of many. Even now in my lands the watch on Mordor has grown weaker because of the politics of men. Even in fair Osgiliath the city is not as full as it once was. The Kin war did much damage there and the plauge has made it worse. In no corner of Middle-earth does it seem that the men of the west are not beset on all sides.  This Methilir, what do you know of his plans? If we could lure him into a trap that revealed his true intentions it may avoid bloodshed. I suppose I am representative of the steward....
Though in Thabard I have heard it said, 'no man, no problem.'"

Adding to the inquiry, Edrahil asked, "What is your intentions, Dirnhael? Where now does your path guide you?"

"Nothing has changed save these scratches," said Dirnhael. "We make for Durgil's lands, Ioreth, Gleowyn and the others that serve his family. It is best that we bring Methilir and his conspirators to justice; his confession in the royal court is the only thing that would truly set this right, but if Methilir thinks Durgil's absence gives him free reign to what is not rightfully his, than we will make it clear that he is mistaken. One way or another."

He hoped that their rival had already sent his best men to waylay them here, but he knew better - there was more to come. But unexpectedly, their ranks had just doubled, and a wolfish grin began to cross his face.

Celdrahil was nervous that Dirnhael planned to raise an army... but perhaps a small one might suffice.

Pethron continued to listen to the conversation around him as he finished packing his bedroll. Prepared to travel, he was happy that there would be others with them on the road, as this would help to ward off further ambushes.

Dirnhael had a look about him that worried the scribe, though. The warrior was determined to resort to violence if necessary, but that would only result in more trouble. Methilir was obviously acting outside of the laws of the kingdom, and would not heed the warnings passed down from the King. The scribe could not help but feel that they had been abandoned by the King in their plight, for words alone would not diffuse this situation.

Pethron could not suppress the feeling in the back of his mind that things were going to end badly ...
