After debate, it was decided that the two prong attack would be attempted and the Host was divided into two groups. Leading the frontal assault would be Dirnhael with Fengel, the two dwarves and Edrahil. Along with them would follow on two of the Dunedain soldiers and the stonewright. The healer would remain at the camp to guard the prisoners.

Durgil would lead the attack on the back wall of the keep. He along with Daelhun, the scout and four other warriors would make the climb up the ivy-covered wall and use bows to silent any watchers on the towers.

To coordinate the attacks, each group would get into position but Dirnhael would give Durgil and his men time to ascend the wall. The elf, with his far-seeing eyes, would let Dirnhael know that Durgil and his men were atop the battlements and to commence their advance on the front gates. Dirnhael and Fengel would ride up, dressed in their enemies garb, to allow them to get as close as possible. The dwarves, the elf and warriors would follow in close behind but out of sight.

It seemed a solid plan. In case there were any problems, each group was given a horn - one sounding would mean that the group had engaged the enemy too soon; two soundings would mean that the enemy was engaged but all was well; three soundings would signify a retreat and any that could were to race west out into the wilderness to regroup as they could and to make for Fornost with word of the loss.

Dirnhael changed his garments while the two groups prepared themselves. With three hours of darkness left, the attackers disappeared into the night. Fortunately for all, once inside the keep, the torches that burned there at the gates and along the crenellations would provide adequate lighting for them all to see.

I need the following series of Tests (I recommend the use of some Courage here, but remember the darkness is on your side):

Stealth (Sneak) - I will use the result to roll an Opposed Observe (See) and (Listen); only those that I roll higher than will be seen or heard; Fengel and Dirnhael do not need to roll as they are blatantly riding forward when their time comes

Climb TN 10 - (For Durgil and his men)

The following physical modifiers will be in effect against the Easterlings once you guys roll your tests: +5 TN for Darkness, +1 TN wind blowing (drowns out sound), +2 TN lulled assuredness - though the castle has heard rumors, none believe that an assault would really come this far north. Affinity bonus will be given of +5 due to the number of guards watching.

Stealth (Sneak) - (6+1)+3=10
Climb - (4+2)+1+3 Courage=10

Not one to lead from behind, Durgil is the first up the vines on the far side of the tower.  Daelhun will bring up the rear and carry the horn for this group.  "By the Valar, don't fail me now," Durgil whispers to himself.

EDIT:  Initiative - (6+5)+2=13

I will need the remaining characters stealth rolls and then we shall commence the attack.

Some basic information before we go into combat:

-The Easterlings are either 3 or 5 HIT kills, you will know what the opponent in front of you has when I say he dies.
-The Easterlings are a Defence 10 (11 or 12... commanders)
-They will either be archers or swordsman with shields

Because this will be a large combat, I am going to incur the following rules:

-As always, I set up a thread for each round... do not give me any ACTIONS except those that would pertain to THAT round and do not start a new sequence of ACTIONS until the 'new round' thread is started
-At the end of each of your posts, roll your initiative for the next round
-Remember to keep an eye on the Status page for any wound or weariness penalties (and your remaining COURAGE points); remember to include all physical modifiers that I give you that will pertain to that round
-Remember my HOUSE RULE that states you may only take a number of offensive actions equal to your standard ACTION ALLOWANCE (2) plus any bonus ACTIONS from the Swift Strike Edge, but you may take as many defensive actions that you may need. The action allowance penalty will, of course, apply.
-Some Acronyms I use for quick posting:
AC Armed Combat
RC Ranged Combat
PM Physical Modifiers
SM Status Modifiers
AA Action Allowance
PB Parry Bonus
SB Shield Bonus
MB Magic Bonus
OB Other Bonus
DOS Degree of Success

-Go ahead and start giving me initiative rolls in this post, for the first round

Doug, would you mind using a different color for your posts than that yellow?
On the forum's default skin, it's very tough to read. If you'd rather not, that's fine too - just let me know which skin you're using and I'll switch to that. Thanks! :D

Think to self it would be much easier if he was one of those riding up blatnetly than having him sneak about like some sort of theif

Hey Shawn,

Sorry about that... I never thought about the reading difficulty on the plain skin. I use the VereorLordoftheRings skin and it makes it very easy to see on the green background. It also works well in the Star Trek skin.

If the consensus is that you guys would rather I post for the generic skin, let me know.

Thanks,  :D

No problem. I'll just switch to the same one you use, then.

Stealth:
Roll (2d6) 6,5 +2=13 (OOC:WooHoo!)

Nain snuck through the grasses of the field in front of the castle with all of the stealth he could muster.  His size helped but he hadn't had occasion to sneak anywhere in more years than most of his companions had been alive so he wasn't all that adept.  He did manage to keep from grumbling under this breath though and it seemed to help.

Fengel rode with his captain to the gates and could feel his blood pumping with the thought of combat and taking the keep. He unconsciously touched the pommel of his sword and ran his fingers over the feathers of his arrows, as if to remind himself that they were still there. He itched to have this over.

Dirnhael pulled his "borrowed" hood down low across his brow.
The enemy apparently knew his name - did they know his face, as well?
"No matter," he thought. This ruse would only work momentarily, and then Anduring would have it's say.

He could see that the rest of the party was deftly moving into place - they were as ready as they were going to be.

Locking eyes with Fengel for a moment, he knew the stalwart Eothraim at his side was ready to go to battle at his side yet again, and the knowledge of that comforted him.

As their boots crunched softly against the cold ground, Dirnhael listened closely for their signal. This was their chance - they must not fail.
