Nain appreciated the help and a little company.  Many hands make light work was not a saying that Dwarves often repeated, rumor had it that Humans had first coined it, but it was still true.  He moved to the far side of the pit to make room for Fengel to help dig, lay stones and prepare the pit.

"Aye, a little work warms the hands and the heart while we wait for the others to bring the wood."

It was then that Edrahil saw the source of Dirnhael's consternation. The serpent was wrapped up over itself like a spring ready to be loosed and if it struck, it could seriously harm his friend.

Edrahil smiled faintly at the situation but then began to cant, his words taking on a hissing sound as he worked the Art to which he had become so adept. The song meant nothing to Dirnhael but to his aggressor, the sounds were soothing and they called to it.

The snakes head wobbled back and forth a bit as it balanced itself on its muscular length, the tongue flickered out, and then it relaxed its stance. It slowly began to slide off the rock towards Edrahil and the Sindar slowly walked backwards as it came.

"Do not worry," he said to Dirnhael, "I will escort our friend here to somewhere it will be safe and where it will not put any of us in jeopardy."

A little over a league away, the Orc lifted its head and looked off towards the west, down the range of mountains, "Hmmm?"

The shaman's reaction caught Graush's attention and he asked, "What is it?"

"One of them must have skill in the arcane for I sense the use of magic..." the Orc's voice trailed off in a whisper as it concentrated on the affects of Edrahil's spell. He knew not what was cast, only that it had been, and that was enough information for Graush.

"So, there was a mage amongst them," the Orc leader thought. "That will complicate things."

He had to decide. They either needed to take the opportunity to capture or kill the interlopers now, or let them be. If they did not do it soon, the Dwarves of Khazad-dum would become a part of the equation... a part he did not wish to deal with.

Dirnhael exhaled loudly in relief, nodding his thanks to Edrahil.
The Elf never ceased to amaze him.
